AL 4, NL 3: Adam Jones, Son!
Despite the fact that the camera panned to Derek Jeter in the dugout every four seconds, last night's all star game was thoroughly satisfying as an Adam Jones fan. Adam played right field and made a few good looking catches out there. He went 0-2 but drove both balls into right field with enough force to get me a little excited. The second fly ball came with Curtis Granderson at third base and the game tied 3-3. Granderson scored easily and Adam Jones was credited with the game winning RBI. That's our baseball player! Game MVP went to Carl Crawford for making a great over the wall catch to rob Brad Hawpe of a home run and save Jonathan Papelbon's behind. It was a decent choice for MVP, I suppose, but Adam Jones is still MVP of my heart.

That's a legit tough vote.
But I went with Adam Jones, Son!
I still believe, and this is not biased (:D) that AJ, S! seriously should have won MVP. Driving in the winning run deserves it. Imagine if he hadn’t done that? And what if the game had gone on and on and on like last years? Yeah. AJ, S! MVP and MBP.
He is our gorgeous all-star. Wheeeeeee.

If, oh, I dunno, Jason Bay did what Adam did, they would be drooling over him. Absolutely drooling. ESPN is a pathetic excuse for whatever they are supposed to be.

WOW, how is it that
You didn’t realize the game was on Fox. Just so you know, Fox and ESPN are 2 totally different networks. Please don’t bitch about ESPN, I love them. If you seriously want some more O’s coverage, we simply have to start winning-end of story. ESPN is not pathetic by a long shot. I love the spelling bee coverage. Now I’ll admit that I didn’t watch ESPN at all during the game… but OsFan21’s reply seemed (to me) like she was saying ESPN was airing the game and “slobbering all over him”. If not, my mistake.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.
WHEN the O’s do something worth talking about it gets mentioned. The comeback was the lead story on SC, not BBT, but SC. The lead story.
If we won more we’d make plenty of appearances. What do you want them to do – have a segment on last place teams at the beginning of the show each day? Get real.
Now I’m not saying I’m a big fan of ESPN – it’s mostly worthless shallow coverage and pathetic attempts at analysis (this has been pointed out by if Kruk is an analyst I think there’s a problem), but don’t bash them for not showing the last place O’s.
Win some games and you’ll see some coverage.

by O'sFan21 on Jul 15, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's a common complaint
I just try to ignore it. The O’s aren’t on that many highlight reals because they are currently irrelevant. Yes, the Red Sox and Yankees get the most attention, and it’s disproportionate to the rest of the teams. But plenty of other teams get attention too. The teams that get the most attention are the teams that the most people care about, and not many people care about an Orioles-Royals game on a Tuesday. Put the O’s in first place and there’s your coverage.
But yeah, BBTN is a joke with it’s “analysis.” So is MLBN for the most part, even though they offer much more equal coverage.

Everything I’ve read suggests that Hamilton is a below-average CFer, while Jones is one of the better ones in the league. Lame.

by O'sFan21 on Jul 15, 2009 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no, not as the starter
when Jones came in Hamilton should have left. I know I’m being irrational, but Hamilton is not a good fielder.
Turns out Joe actually had a plan, since he put Granderson, who is also a good defender, in center for the end of the game. But screw Josh Hamilton.
Partially I think I’m rebelling against all the Hamilton feel-good bullshit. I realize this is an exhibition and it hardly matters, but several aspects of it offend my sensibilities. Especially because Hamilton stinks this year at the plate, too. Stupid fan voting.

If the hitter with the sac fly was a yerk or a sux, they would have won mvp.
Carl Crawford was the first position player since Willie Mays in 1968 to win MVP without and RBI.
Like Leno said, if it was Bay (or Jeter, Tex, Youk, Josh Hamilton, etc.) they would have won MVP, probably. Game winning rbi always goes above catch during a tie game that any competent LF could have made. People would have said “But Adam Jones didn’t have a hit , he shouldn’t have won MVP.” My response: Crawford didn’t have a go-ahead RBI, and Jones made 3 outs in the outfield. But that’s me with a little Orioles fan bias.

Aside
from the simple fact that you consistently respond to every comment of mine with the same tired ass cliche (sometimes with an exciting twist, like a reference to the Orioles’ lone win against the Red Sox this year, disastrous as it was) no matter how irrelevant that may be to what I happen to be saying and how? Nothing. And if I stayed away, you would just worry about where I was, and I wouldn’t want you to go through that. So perhaps it’s better for you then to, rather then interject yourself at every turn and divert any potential conversation to your worn out schtick, just keep those thoughts to yourself and have your own private chuckle when I make a comment. That way you can stay comforted knowing I’m still out there and you don’t have to worry. And hey, if the Orioles win another game this year, you’ll have a second joke to add to your repertoire. Aim high!

What a persecution complex we all have.
I thought the broadcasters and analysts were as complementary as could be about Adam Jones last night. Maybe not on Sportscenter and BBT, but during the game they were raving about his athleticism, his defense, his speed (about how hard to double up he would be), and how gritty that AB was to get the sack fly. Phillips went on and on about how he thought there were going to be many many ASGs in his future. I’m not sure what else you could ask for.
Also did anybody else notice AJ’s bling? Was that new? Do they not let him where that in Baltimore? It looked awesome!

First Jones, Then Markakis
It was good to see Adam Jones perform in the spotlight. Hopefully Markakis will get that opportunity in the near future.
By the way, not to nitpick but Jones was actually 0-for-1 since his game-winning RBI didn’t count as an at-bat.

Hey Stacey
Weren’t you a Royals Fan the other day? Oh thats right you were just pretending.I don’t give a shit about seeing Fenway or buying a Sausage shirt in Miller park. When I go to the York Rev’s game tonight, I wear my Markakis gear. To be a fan of baseball doesn’t mean I need to go every ballpark in the country, I can enjoy the game without posing as a fan of another team.

Is it me...
or does this seem a little mean-spirited? I don’t recall Stacey saying you had visit every park in the country to be a fan… I rather enjoyed her story about pretending to like the Royals… in a fashion as say a 14 yr old girl will pretend to be “into” a 7 yr old as to humor him because he’s shy and thinks she’s cute.

It's cool
Also just to be clear with everyone (since the subject came up), I don’t care if people joke about shit like that. Honestly, I don’t think it falls into any kind of sexist talk as long as it’s jokingly. It’s when people do things like talk about the umpires vagina as a way to insult him (and thus, all women) or if someone seriously was a woman hater or a man hater. I know we had a scare awhile back and everyone has been on eggshells since then, but I would enjoy if we loosened up a bit.

Did you guys see the sportingnews guy’s blurb posted on mlbtraderumors stating that the Os should be happy with a “fringe prospect” for Huff? Wouldn’t they get a pretty high pick if he walked? Anyway, I checked a couple of sites and then remembered that Redhead makes hunting clothing so I thought maybe they’d make rubber boots. Naturally, I typed in redhead dot com. Seconds later the IT guy called and was curious why the red light lit up on my computer. The lovely young ladies on redhead dot com do not in fact wear rubber boots…or much else for that matter.
