Mid point MBP Poll-Finals
Bergie blew out ZAUN (not surprisingly) and somewhat surprisingly Luuuke eeked by Adam Jones, Son! in a very tight vote. Now it's finals time. Who will it be? The boy wonder callup? Or the surprising wild card? Vote for your Mid point MBP!
#1 Adam Jones, Son!
#4 Luuuke
#4 Luuuke
#2 Brad "3E" Bergesen
#2 Brad "3E" Bergesen

Hard to choose
This really tests your values. Which is more Birdland — homegrown pitching or the three run homer? Earl grew us up saying “both” but it’s not an option here.
I had to go with pitching.
Has there ever been a cooler Oriole than Eddie Murray? I mean, just straight up cool. Like a bad, suave dude. You know what I'm sayin'. COOL. SC 7/24/08

One AB can only do so much...
Thats why I went with my boy Brad Bergs.

But Brad only throws every 5 days....
where Luke gets ABs 5 days a week.

Yeah but
Luke does not put us in a position to win every time he plays.

well one could argue that bergesen doesnt either
but luke isnt an everyday player either. six of one, half dozen of another (which also sparks the question of half a bakers dozen…….)

I don't get this
“luke isn’t an every day player” argument. Other than his time on the DL, he’s missed 7 games. He may not have started season an everyday player, but he sure as hell is now.

the orioles have played about 90 games
luke scott has played in 66 of them….

Which is why I said other than his time on the DL
The Orioles have played 88 games, Luke has played in 66 of them. Luke missed 15 games when he was on the disabled list. If Brian Roberts had gone on the disabled list for 15 games would you start calling him a part time player?

I get what you're saying
and ultimately it comes down to personal preference. But I will say that Luke has had RBIs in 41% of his games, hits in 75% of his games, home runs in 25% of his games. Luke contributes to every single game, Bergy contributes once a week. Just glancing at B-R.com I see at least 8 games that the Orioles won this year where Luke’s # of RBIs is equal or greater to the number of runs the Orioles won that game by.
Besides all that, Birdland isn’t just about stats. Bergy pitches his ass off, it’s true. But Luke is awesome in all sorts of other birdland ways.

Yep
when I opened this thread, I was split. LUUUUKE’s offense, BB’s pitching. Then I realized it’s most Birdland player, and LUUUUKE does all that cool stuff that ive mentioned in previous threads. Berg had his Napoleon Dynamite thing going on, and that was pretty funny, but it creeped me out as well. On sheer awesomeness factor, I have to go with LUUUUUKE, and since their playing ability is almost split for me (I might give a slight edge to BB because he’s unexpectedly became our best pitcher out of nowhere) I think i’m going LUUUUUKE.
Honestly, I would have voted AJ, but all 3 are amazingly awesome.

I guess I just like some good pitching
I never really thought about it, but I always make sure I see the days BB is starting. There are very few other games I make sure I see.

Besides all that, Birdland isn’t just about stats.
Yeah… hell yeah. In order to vote, I think you should listen to the Orioles Magic song, I then immediately vote. No thinking, just go with the player you feel captures the spirit of birdland.
I also go by Voltaire.

even better
just watch the Orioles Magic dvd. Now THAT is Birdland.

Noted
But the 16th ranked prospect coming up and single handedly rescuing a drowning pitching staff is pretty goddamed birdland. There was not one pitcher on the staff that wasn’t a train wreck. If Bradley Bergesen didn’t exist, granted one of the other prospects might have stepped up. But maybe not. Hell maybe we would have been forced to rush one of the golden boys. Maybe Bradley Bergesen rescued the drowning staff with one hand and saved the precious innocent psyches of our golden boys with the other.

It's funny that Luke beat Adam
Because I think Adam would have topped Brad, but Luke won’t.

BB ROY?
Had to go with Brad since he might be pushing for ROY if he keeps this up for the 2nd half.

To certain degree, I thik you have to ignore the numbers to vote. It’s not the MVO, it’s the MBP. Deciding who captures the essence of birdland is something you feel. I vote Luke.

Two guys
Who probably had the best half a season they will ever have in their career.
I picked Luke, but it could go either way.

I've been waiting so long for good Orioles pitching
and the fact that he came from our farm system makes it all the better. I love Luke, but I had to vote for Brad.
And I have to ask — maybe I’m missing something screamingly obvious, but does “3E” refer to the three e’s in Bergesen?
