Orioles favorite for Sano?
I found this article through MLBTradeRumors.com and was surprised to read that the Orioles are one of two favorites, along with the Pirates, to sign Sano. Everything else I've read has said that the Orioles were more fringe candidates in the Sano race. Can anyone who has followed this more closely shed any light on this?

About Sano
I know the O’s are doing their due dilligence there, but I just saw this at MLB Daily Dish. Looks like the Yanks got beat on one. I’m all for Sano, but lets prove that he is who he says he is.

Matt Wieters can get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop in under one lick.
He wants to sign with the Pirates
But his agent wants him to take the most money, and meanwhile the orioles are waiting for MLB’s investigation to end to make an offer. It was supposed to end as early as this week. I heard us described as dark horses and that is probably the best description.

Do we know why he prefers Pittsburgh?
It seems that if you’re an outside person and it’s down to Pittsburgh and Baltimore, you’d just take the most money. Does he have friends who play in the Pittsburgh system? Does Pittsburgh have a larger number of Domincan Players? Does he have family there? I’m curious.

Pittsburgh has been in contact with Sano for years
Miguel and his family have deep roots with the Pirates organization, and that means something.
The O’s are basically just coming in and trying to do as much as they can in a short period of time. If we blow Pittsburgh out of the water then I’m sure Sano will sign with the O’s, but because the Pirates have been courting Miguel for such a long time, I doubt they’ll just let another franchise come in and snatch him out of their hands.
Without having much of any insight into the issue, I think Sano signs with Pittsburgh if their offer is remotely close.

thanks for the info
I had no background on it

OK, I'll ask the obvious for those who haven't been paying close attention
I may be naive here, and I admit I have not closely followed Sano’s saga. If this kid is some kind of hot prospect, why are the Pirates and O’s the supposed leaders in wooing the kid? I needn’t say more, you know precisely what I’m getting at.
Because the O's/Pirates need to grab young, high upside players more than New York/Boston/Chicago
The Yankees don’t need to take risks on guys like Sano at age 16 as they can merely buy him out in six years if he actually turns into a stud.

the Pirates...
…have actually been signing a number of interesting international prospects of late. I know they signed two kids from India, three from Taiwan and various Latin American kids. Here is one article on their international prospects.
