Dodgers Looking At Sherrill

FoxSports - The Dodgers are looking at Jays reliever Jason Frasor, major-league sources say, and Orioles closer George Sherrill is another reliever on their wish list.

General manager Ned Colletti has identified setup relief as a principal area of need, and Frasor and Sherrill are two of the better options available.

I don't see much in the Dodgers organization we could recieve with just Sherrill, other than a mid-level guy. But, I'd be all for trading Georgy boy for the right price, with his age, an the fact we don't know how long he's going to perform like has past few months.

I'd really like to get something decent for him

even if he’s not our long term closer, he’s a nice arm out of the pen. If we’re looking to contend soon we cant just toss players like this anymore. If the deal is right, great. Otherwise, no thanks.

Matt Wieters can get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop in under one lick.

Agreed

Sherrill could be a valuable lefty in the bullpen for years

The Marlins are also interested

I don’t know how likely it is that he’ll be traded.

Makes sense

Broxton is having lingering issues which have caused his ERA to more than double since 6/16. We are not the only team with a good replacement closer but it would be a good fit. Sherrill is 32, and i dont think he will be around for years. If we can get a B+ prospect from him, you really have to consider letting him go.

We don't have many left options out of the pen.

I would keep Sherrill unless the deal was right. He could be our lefty specialist. And who would close if we moved Sherrill in a trade? Ray=No control and could be hurt. Johnson=No control and a nibbler. Bass=Long man. Koji=Not a power arm. Baez=Possibility.

Closer is an overrated position

If we could get talent back, I don’t see any reason not to trade him. Let Johnson close (he has as much control as George) or Baez or Uehara.

Fill it

with anyone, and start breeding Mickolio and Hernandez for a closer competition at the start of next year.

I know a lot of people talk about Hernandez being a closer

But I’d rather see if he can succeed as a starter before moving him. Maybe he won’t, but if he does, starters are a lot more valuable than closers.

You're right

and we have to brace ourselves for the high probability that one of the big three will turn out to be a bust. It’s just based on odds, so watching Hernandez play well as a starter would be a huge plus. If Hernandez is a solid starter, no need to even mention the closer position

Trade

Sherrill for Kershaw and another prospect! That would be prefect! (in our dreams)

apparently

Its not just the dodgers that are interested. MLBTR lists the Marlins, Dodgers, Brewers, Angels and Cubs today. It also says that “others [GM’s] are confident the O’s will move him”
