California wants Sherrill
Bill Shaikin of the LA Times is reporting that the Angels are also interested in George Sherrill. mlbtraderumors's Ben Nicholson-Smith points out that Andy MacPhail is looking for two top prospects in return, although its more likely that he'll get one B+ prospect for Sherrill. However, with reports that the Dodgers, Marlins, and now the Angels are interested in Sherrill it becomes imperative that MacPhail begin using bids against each other and strongly consider not only trading Sherrill but packaging him with other veterans to maximize return. Meaning we could see a trade including Baez and/or Huff for at least one top level prospect and a spare part or two (in the case of Baez, much more for Huff).
The article also mentions that Os scouts were in attendance for the Angels/A's game last night and will probably swing by their Triple- and Double-A affiliates to see what they can get in a trade. But if logic is any indication, MacPhail will focus any trade with the Angels on Brandon Wood and/or Mark Trumbo. They are, after all, aside from Hank Conger (C) and Peter Bourjos (OF), the Angels only position prospects on most lists.
So, Os fans. What say ye of a trade to the Angels? Or do the Dodgers/Marlins make more sense based on the bounty?

I like Trumbo
and Wood can be decent, but arent these guys that the Jays were looking at if the Angels are to make a run at Halladay?
Matt Wieters can get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop in under one lick.
That's a fair point
But at the same time, their rotation has been more solid than their bullpen this year.
Anyway, most reports say the Jays are more interested in pitching and shortstop prospects than corner infield, so maybe they trade all to get both Halladay and Sherrill. Not to mention that most pundits are saying the Phillies will land Halladay.
I agree
I dont actually think the Angels will land Halladay, I just wonder if the Angels will be willing to part with any pieces the Jays may potentially want until Roy is traded.

If we can get wood
then AM needs to pull the trigger asap. But i have a feeling that they wont be trading wood for a reliever.
"I have seen the future and his name is Matt Wieters." Keith Law
trading for closers...
…doesn’t seem to be all that awesome for the dealing team. A few moves that I remember:
Jose Valverde to the Astros for Chad Qualls, etc
Eric Gagne for David Murphy and not much else
Octavio Dotel for Kyle Davies
On the hopeful front, the Braves did trade a nice catching prospect some years ago.
In sum, I don’t have a lot of expectations, though Sherrill is under team control for another couple seasons which either makes him more valuable or just gives MacPhail a reason not to trade him…
Librarians are hiding something
Relievers don’t bring in crap. I would love Wood for Sherrill but I don’t see it happening.
Huff has gone back to being Huff. Deal with it.
ahahahahahahahahahaha
from that article:
The Orioles have told teams that Sherrill, reliever Danys Baez and infielders Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora are available.
Andy’s saying Memlo’s available? What a kidder!

Accepting the move
I’ve been saying this all season, Mora will accept a trade because its the last year of his contract and he’d only be away from his family for three months. He seems more than willing to play for a contender, and he is, after all, a boarderline Type-A.
Brandon Wood
Has some pretty sick Minor League stats…
Here is his OPS the last few years:
.959, .970, .835, .835, .907, 1.047
Although, it looks like he strikes out a lot.
Two Prospects
The Orioles told the Angels they want Brandon Wood and Trevor Reckling, but the Angels shrply declined. If I were the Orioles I would simply pick Wood or Reckling you can’t go wrong with either one.

I'm sure
they know they arent getting both, but they have time til the deadline. Establish a high point, let teams bid it out, and hopefully you can end up with one of them and maybe a fringe prospect ta boot.
