Gameday Thread: O's (35-43) @ LAAACCSUSAWH* (42-34)

Baltimore Orioles at Los Angeles Angels, Jul 2, 2009 10:05 PM EDT

I will be at this game with birdman. Representin' in my new Adam Jones, son! road jersey.

If there's nothing else in this story, it means none of the other mods has been by since I posted this.

EDIT from duck: OK, I'l say this. ZK,I hope you enjoy this game. I do. But it's garbage that it's on the schedule NOW. We played 3,000 miles away just 30 hours ago, and while the precious Red Sox are enjoying a day off, at home no less, the O's had to schlep across continent for yet another West Coast trip. Those precious Red Sox? Yeah, they're done with the West Coast. Done. As in they travel no further west than Texas for the rest of the year. Yeah, that's fair. And don't get me started on the umps. Back to ZK.

Alright, not quite yet. Jeremy Guthrie's last two starts have been wins, although his performance against the Nationals wasn't exactly awe-inspiring, with only 5.0 IP and 3 runs allowed. The start before that against the Phillies, where he went 7.0 IP and allowed just 1 run, is the Guthrie we hope to see tonight. OK, NOW back to ZK.

Our last west coast trip this year.

GO O's!!!

Old friends

A couple of interesting notes while waiting for the late game:

Bruce Chen is dominating the White Sox so far — 1 H, 1 BB, 1 ER, and 5 K through 4 IP. Wonder if the traditional Chen big inning is coming.

And the Phillies are calling up Rodrigo Lopez to start tomorrow. Wow.

I wonder if Teixiera has any NYY-KC series circled on his calendar now that Chen is back.

You have the choice between a guy riding a 10 game hitting streak

with power, or Melvin Mora, it’s not a hard choice right now.

Sucking

Per Roch…

Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora told MASN’s Amber Theoharis that his exclusion from the lineup again tonight isn’t injury related.

Mora believes that manager Dave Trembley just wants to clear his head by allowing him to sit again, and he expects to play tomorrow night. He also said that he knew he wouldn’t be in the lineup.

One thing Trembley does well is communicate with his players. Guys know ahead of time they will not be in the lineup. Starters know when they are scheduled for a day off, and he’s not exactly cryptic in his thoughts on the status of pitchers.

I checked Salazar on Baseball Reference the other day

and I was surprised by how good his major league line is — it’s just 141 PA scattered over three seasons (and those three seasons are 2002, 2008, and 2009), but his career OPS+ is 122. I just assumed he had had a couple of chances and not hit, but besides a bad 20 or so AB for Detroit in 2002, it’s just been last year and this year.

Are rehab assignments longer for minor leaguers? It seems like Blake Davis and Brandon Erbe have been down at the lower levels for a while.

as for minor league rehab assignments, I don’t think it matters. You can move people all over the minors without using options or anything.

I don’t know guys, maybe I’m an exception to the rule. I truly do follow both teams with passion. I’ve never thought of it like that, room for one, etc.. To be honest with you, If I was growing up today, with inter league play and all, I probably would only be a Phillies fan(due to the fact thats the only games I get) but alas i’m not. I see your point about the nats games being on tv, for you fans in md. Like I said, I think its diffrent today.though. I think

that if I moved across the country or something, I’d have to take an interest in whatever baseball team I was near simply because I can’t stand the idea of not going to baseball games. But the idea of liking another team as much as the Orioles is unfathomable simply because it’s so exhausting liking just the O’s.

Hopefully you all don’t mind if I continue to be on here, and root for both teams. After all the o’s and phils do only play one series every couple years. Hope i haven’t stirred up too much tonite.
