Candid Caleb Joseph no longer?

As many of you know, a story about it was published in the Sun I believe, Caleb Joseph catcher for the Frederick Keys was authoring a blog for a few months, calebjoseph.wordpress.com. It was pretty good particularly because Caleb seemed liked a real nice guy.

Anyway, it is down and I have a feeling Caleb has been removed permanently from the blogosphere. It often happens that bosses aren't so keen on their employees blogging. Insert analogy here referencing a slippery slope and dirtry laundry. Maybe Caleb has been directed to pursue his blogging ambitions through the sanctioned MASN mouthpiece.

But maybe some of you closer to the Frederick fan base know more than I do.  Maybe there was a particularly lurid post. Maybe young Caleb crossed the line, wrote something inappropriate. Perhaps something like "there is a guy on my team, we'll call him Rilly Bowell and he is a light hitting ninny, bane of the entire franchise."  Yoiks! that is probably how rumors get started. :)

I know that the blog is being re-designed

I can’t speak to any potential Orioles or MASN-related meddling, but I know the blog is supposed to be redesigned so it’s possible that it’s down while the new one is coming along.

As to how I know, I can’t say I ever met Caleb Joseph but the person who I know has been contacted about a new blog layout is a friend of mine. So there’s a little inside info for you.

Hopefully it will be back soon because I also found it to be an enjoyable read!

Caleb Joseph

Now is as good a time as any to mention that he has improved his status this year. I think putting him in our top 10 prospects is likely and he could possibly finish the year as our #2 hitting prospect behind Snyder. Hoes and Avery are just too raw currently.

I think you are right

Top ten and (somewhat unfortunately) #2 hitting prospect. As a sidebar what’s up with Snyder? his stats look miserable.

Bad luck, mostly.

Absurdly low BABIP in Norfolk, after an absurdly high one in Bowie…

Thats interesting

Even though I had to look up what BABIP is. Where is that stat maintained?

Fangraphs

That site has all sorts of stats that will make your head spin.

And my conversion is official

I’ve probably been holding off on fangraphs until something opened up in my time wasting schedule. but, schedules be damned.

I would probably think

that Ronnie Welty gets somewhere in that conversation, too.

Welty is at .311/.391/.435 at Delmarva with 8 homers and 82 Ks in 322 AB
Joseph is at .332/.365/.498 at Frederick with 8 homers and 45 Ks in 277 AB

Joseph probably gets the bump because of a lower K-rate and the higher level, but it’s close.

Lotta people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well. When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

Not really close

The most important part you missed was Joseph is a catcher. I dont know if Welty is a corner OF or center fielder, but I would put Welty below Avery and Hoes just because of their ceilings. Does Welty project as anything better than a 4th OF?

Hoes and Avery are hitting about 60 points lower than Welty

I know they run faster and it’s low A, but Welty has just been head and shoulders better than them, not even close.

I'll take the young raw toolsy guys over Welty

Hoes and Avery are 2 years younger and the reward on them can be so much greater.

I'll keep all 3 and see how they pan out... :)

That sounds like a plan

Also because the higher HR rate, better OPS and average

not to mention Joseph is a catcher. It’s really not all too close.

by NickMarkaces on Jul 28, 2009 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't realize he was doing that good...

If he keeps it up he may allow us to switch Wieters to 1B.

Keep Wieters at catcher

Maybe Joseph can be the #2 catcher. If both can hit and catch well, they could share the catching and DH some. The O’s need a big time 1B. Not just an extra body.

Disappointing if actually true

We go some real insight from Caleb.
