The Orioles placed struggling starter Rich Hill (shoulder tendinitis) on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday to accommodate rookie pitcher Chris Tillman on the 25-man roster. Tillman will make his major league debut tonight against the Kansas City Royals.

UPDATE: Rich Hill is now saying it's a torn labrum, and that it was discovered around the first of the year. He wanted to try and pitch through it. There's a lot more to this story than what The Sun has put forth thus far.

Hill, who is 3-3 with a 7.80 ERA, has done little to justify his spot in the Orioles rotation as he's failed to go at least five innings in seven of his 13 starts. After his last start on Monday in which he allowed three earned runs and lasted just 2 1/3 innings against the Royals, Hill complained about some discomfort in his shoulder.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

Why are we even wasting a DL spot on him, would rather put him through waivers and see if anyone else wants his sorry ass

Now it's a torn labrum

Roch tells us:

Rich Hill told a small group of reporters that he’s been pitching with a torn labrum in his left shoulder, an injury that existed before he got here.

Asked about the tear during his pre-game session with the media, manager Dave Trembley said: “I talked to Rich Hill this afternoon, and to be honest with you, that’s the first time I ever heard that about a torn labrum. I was not aware of that. I spoke to Richie Bancells and I was not aware of that at all.”

Someone really doesn’t want to be claimed by the Pirates…

This has me more pissed off than his performance

Dude KNEW he had a torn labrum BEFORE he got here? That means a few things…

1. The Cubs dealt us damaged goods.

2. Our training staff has a lot of questions to answer, starting with “HOW THE HELL DID YOU MISS A TORN LABRUM?”.

3. Why was Dave Trembley continuing to use a pitcher he KNEW to be injured to some extent?

My faith I had in our organization – coaches, the manager, MacPhail – is a little shakier than it was yesterday.

How in the hell does something like this happen????

Dave came out and said he never knew that Hill had any medical problems.

Right after the ‘tendinitis’ bit the other day, Diamond Dave said it was news to him.

He knew Hill was hurt, but not the torn labrum

I want to know a few things

like, how does he know it’s a torn labrum…is he a doctor? Did a doctor tell him this? When did that happen? Is he just making shit up?

All DD knew was what was in the medical reports, which is injury history, ongoing minor stuff like soreness, etc.

If Hill was pitching with a torn labrum, he’s incredibly stupid and desperate to do so without telling anybody. Although, when he got the hook last time out, he looked like he was going to cry. I figured it was just pressure, but maybe it was pain.

That's a great question.

Is this a self-diagnosis?

And if it’s not, why wasn’t it in the medical reports Dave is getting? I can’t imagine a scenario where Richie Bancells hid info from Dave. So, why did Rich Hill tell the Orioles he had a torn labrum?

Rich Hill is either a liar or an idiot, and either way I don’t want him to wear this uniform ever again.

Get the fuck outa here!

He doesn’t have a torn labrium. He pitched like shit and is looking for excuses. Show me an MRI and maybe I’ll believe he’s got an injury. Otherwise Tendinitis is the max I’ll believe. Torn labrum – get the fuck out of here.

Why would you pitch with a torn labrum?

You’re going to suck while you’re hurt, and the alternative is taking a year off with all medical expenses on the company’s dime. Not to mention they keep paying you. I never get why these guys try to pitch through that kind of pain.

I guess there’s the “being a gamer” factor, but at a certain point it just crosses into stupidity.

Actually I thought this type of injury never really “heals.” You can just rehab it to the point where the pain becomes manageable.

What. The. Fuck.

Rich Hill has some serious ‘splaining to do. And the O’s have some serious reconsideration of the Cubs as a trading partner to do.
