So, according to MLBTR (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/royals-dfa-luis-hernandez.html) the Royals have DFA'd Luis "Squared" Hernandez in order to make room for Ryan Freel.  While a little closer to home, Blake Davis has completed his rehab assignment and been assigned to Norfolk.

Now, I have nothing personal against Blake Davis, but for all the talk about him being some kind of answer for the O's, one must wonder what the question was.  His best offensive numbers in his minor league career have been produced during his rehab stint as a 25 year old at short season Aberdeen where he posted a slightly less than robust .777 OPS.

Now in all fairness, Robert Andino, who was basically acquired to take the role that seemed Davis's for the taking, was hardly an All Star in the minors, but, hey...the mere comparisons to Brandon Fahey which Davis has garnered are more than enough to give me nightmares.

Hah.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Luis Hernandez

was the ORIGINAL Birdland, was he not?

must have been

last year we started 1-1 against the rays, and I dont remember anything Birdlandish in those games, then it was the 4 game sweep of Seattle and their bullpen. The Luis Hernandez game was still one of the best games ive ever attended. Birdland happened.

It gets better in KC...

In the middle infield they also have Tony Pena, Jr. (.239 OPS in 2009, .550 career OPS) and Tug “Son of Tim” Hulett (1-for-14 in 12 G). Pitching-wise, there’s what I can only assume is a mummified version of Bruce Chen. Chen is 0-3 with a 6.88 ERA and since he won his last MLB game on October 2, 2005(!) with the Orioles, is now 0-10 with a 6.95 ERA. Then there’s Sir Sidney lurking on the DL.

Thank the gods that you’re not Royals fans, folks.

I have no issues with Blake Davis

I watched him last season in Bowie. The organization has shown faith in him for years. He was given a roster spot in Arizona along with Wieters, Reimold and a few others after the season. If he had not hurt his foot this year Andino would not be here today. Right now I like Andino and what he brings going forward.

Ryan Freel is a mystery. This guy has been with 4 organizations since the end of last season (Reds, O’s, Cubs and now Royals). What does this guy have? Naked pictures of the Commissioner? He just keeps getting chances even though he can’t hit.

The Royals are us about 4 years ago. They will wake up and become a serious organization when management wakes up.

I don't recall anyone saying

Blake Davis was the answer to anything. I don’t think he was ever considered a top-level prospect.

not anyone here...

and no one suggested top level prospect, but i felt like the masn people and sun people talked like a util spot in the bigs was his for the taking.

like i said, nothing personal, i just don’t think he’s very good. the flip side, of course, is what does it matter if he’s just a utility guy.
