Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Orioles 5, Mariners 3. It was poetry, people. Poetry.

The Orioles tried to lose this game,

But the Mariners bullpen proved too lame.

Nope, that's not it. Let me try again.

Orioles bats wait

until the absolute last

moment, then they strike!

Nope. Not gonna do. One more try.

There once was a team in Seattle,

Beating the O's 3-0 in battle,

But then their ‘pen sucked,

And the M's were.....out of luck,

And with a win the O's did skedaddle.

Hey, you guys started it.

Gotta go with Wiggington...

He hit the tying AND go-ahead run in. Then he kept the inning alive with a Birdland slide that took out the guy at 2nd base…which allowed us to get the insurance run. Hernandez was very good also, but Wigs won the game IMO.

by John Stephens on Jul 8, 2009 10:00 PM EDT reply actions

Wiggy?

What about the two double plays earlier in the game, including an inning-ending one with the bases loaded?

by dkdc on Jul 8, 2009 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

So?

He did the closest equivalent to hitting a walk-off HR. All sins are forgiven when you knock in the winning run.

by John Stephens on Jul 8, 2009 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I disagree

He had 8 baserunners on for him in the the game and he drove in 2.

He did OK, but he wasn’t birdland.

by dkdc on Jul 8, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

So if we were at home

And in the game he left 12 base runners on…then in the 9th they were down by 2, 2 on, he cranks a HR. That’s not birdland? If Wiggs did not hit in those runs we might have lost.

Please no more poetry. It's really bad. And very annoying.

Not you Duck, but the people doing it in the thread for the entire game.

by O'sFan21 on Jul 8, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions

C'mon, you KNEW the recap was gonna have it

But I can see where 250+ comments of attempts at poetry could get bothersome. But it was just one game, a game at the end of a work day, and a game that looked like another phone-it-in loss. Sometimes, you just gotta go with the silly.

I almost appreciate it in the recap :)

Chill, dude

You don’t have to read the comments in the thread. A lot of us were having fun and certainly weren’t gonna stop for one person.

This is the first time I've even been tempted to list No One as MBP in a win.

But reading just how bad Seattle’s defense was in the 9th, I had to make it an option. I voted for Wiggy, but 3 votes were already cast before I could pull the trigger on it.

by duck on Jul 8, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

I mean as bad as their defense was...

Melmo still had a double, Zaun took a good walk, Salazar had a nice single, Jones had a nice single (not ruled an error), Wiggs had a single, and Luke had a single. So it was not all horrible, I don’t like the “no one” vote.

If the 9th had never happened, you still have to vote for Hernandez at least.

by John Stephens on Jul 8, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I listed it as an option

but didn’t choose it myself. But I could see where others could. As I read the recap on Th Sun’s website, I couldn’t believe how bad Seattle’s defense must have been in the 9th.

by O Nina on Jul 9, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

It Was So Painful

I was so tired of the false hope, that all I could muster was a faint smile when we took the lead. We did not deserve to escape SafeCo with a win. Without the defensive errors in the 9th, we still don’t get out with a win. Woodward cuts down the run at the plate, and Markakis grounds into a double play to end it. Jose Lopez for MBP, but I voted nobody. Nobody was clutch, nobody played well, they just played barely well enough to outlast the defense. Wigginton with two double plays? Oscar Salazar throwing the ball into the runner to give up that 3rd run? Jones hitting a tapper that Woodward would normally field, possibly turn two on? The only one who deserves consideration is David Hernandez, and even he was bad. His pitches were all over the place, but he was, as they say, effectively wild. All-in-all, this is a win to be neither proud nor happy about. It’s just a sign of all the holes that we still have in our lineup.

On the first day, Chuck Norris created God. But the day before that, Matt Wieters created Chuck Norris and the calendar.

didn't see it...

but on the radio, they made it sound like a competent 1st baseman would have made a pretty easy play in salazar’s throw. i mean, maybe it would have taken an extra effort to get the out, but they made it sound like the ball going into the camera well was all on huff.

No one has pictures of Huff or B-Rob's moustaches? Really? I'm quite curious.

I don’t like West Coast trips at all. :( Have yet to see a game. But wasn’t this the last WC trip of the year? Or something like that? Hooray!
As for this game, which, I missed, I voted Seattle imploding on themselves because of all the errors. Not that I’m complaining about those errors or anything. Errors are a beautiful thing, unless, of course, WE are committing them.

P.S. Brian can’t possibly look very pleasing to the eye with a stache. But I’ll give it to him because he’s sick. Then again, Aubrey probably looks pretty freaky with a porn stache.

Not to pick this comment apart

But in the scenario above, wouldn’t Olson be the teabagger, not the teabaggee? Unless I misunderstand my teabagging terminology.

Maybe it's different in england.

The coment was from “EnglishMariner”. As evidenced by the use of the word Gob.

Even having spent a few years over there I couldn’t confirm or deny that. I find maintaining a plausible deniability in such matters to be the soundest course of action.
