Camden Chat Day @ OPaCY: Saturday October 3rd. **UPDATED**
It's been mentioned a few times this year that it'd be nice to have a CC meet up at a game, and was brought up again in today's Open Thread by the fix is in. There are just a few weekends left with the O's at home, and it looks like October 3rd, the 2nd to last game of the year, is our best bet for good turn out (other weekends include this weekend, Labor Day weekend, and Boston weekend).
It'd be great to meet up before the game (no tailgating in the Orioles lots, but we'll figure something out), then cheer the team one last time before the season ends.
If there is enough interest, I'll call the Orioles to see what they can do for us regarding tickets, although it might be just as simple as identifying a section in the upper deck. We can all get our tickets there and it'll be empty enough that we can maneuver as we wish.
Please vote below and if there is enough interest I'll get the ball rolling. If you have any suggestions for tickets or pre-game festivities, post them in the comments.
There is but one rule that must be followed: if you're under 18, you must to bring a parent/guardian with you.
UPDATE: fix contacted his ticket rep, Patrick, for us and we're in business! Here are the details:
Patrick's email to fix: I will block of a large block of seats for the group..let’s just make sure we are on the same page. Do you want to do a legit block right behind home plate in the Upper Reserve?
I can mail out seats as long as the orders are in and paid for at least 10 days before the game. OR I can also leave tickets at will call under specific names as well. You would not have to obtain peoples addresses for me as I will be able to get them when people place orders with me directly.
Fix's instructions: You can reach Patrick at pfields@orioles.com . Contacting this man is THE WAY for you to get your ticket. Include "Camden Chat" in the subject in your e-mail. You can either arrange for your tickets to be mailed to you, in which you pay with a card, or you can give him your name and contact info so that tickets will be at the Will Call office for pick up. We have over a month to do all of the organization, and the tickets will be the last thing to worry about.
Thanks so much for the hook up! This way everyone can buy their tickets seperately and can pay ahead or when you pick up at will call. There's plenty of time to get the tickets but it'd be nice if when you do you post a comment, just so we can have an idea of who's going. It was also asked in the comments if non-CCers are welcome and the answer is of course! I'll probably end up bringing someone with me.
Once the date gets closer and we have a rough idea of how many people/who's attending, we can make pre-game plans.
FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

We could all meet at a designated place
Like somewhere on Eutaw street, like Boogs? I think it would be great fun to meet all.

I say
We meet at either a bar (maybe not if people under 21 are coming) or tailgate a little before hand. That would be a lot of fun. Burgers, dogs, beer, and orange.

I'd be fine with Pickles
but yeah, if there are people under 21, we’ll see. Once we get a general tally we can do a poll for that sort of thing.

Obviously, I'm down.
October 3 is a good day. People who work on weekends should be able to request it off. I think that I’ll send an e-mail to my season account representitive, just because he’ll send me an e-mail back by the end of the day. I don’t know how group tickets work, like if they reserve the seats, and actually mail out the tickets to everyone, or what?

just sent an e-mail to him with rough details.
It’s probably not a part of his job, but he should send me an e-mail back with crucial information. Frankly, I just don’t know how group tickets work other than “groups larger than 12 can recieve a discount.” It would blow balls if someone had to front all of the money and then get the tickets to everyone else. It would be perfect if we could just reserve half of a section or something and have our members buy them at the box office. Who really cares about a discount?
I don’t want to be dependent on ushers-not-being-dicks.

I would love to,
but there is a 6 hour drive involved for me. If we could lobby for the game to be moved to the afternoon, that would be marvelous (Can’t happen, though).
Sometimes you see somebody standing there watching a home run for a while, and that's not fun for a pitcher to see. It's (also) not good for a pitcher to scream at a batter after he's struck him out, or doing arm motions. I come from the old school. Hit the ball, run, throw, catch it -- that's the way the game should be played.

Is actually the only game I’ll be attending this year. I’m taking my company’s tickets, so I wouldn’t be able to sit with everyone. I think it’d be cool to meet you guys, but can’t say for sure. I’m taking a girl I just started dating, so I don’t know how “Hey, let’s go meet some people I know from the internet on a blog comments section!” is going to sound. but they are one of my ancillary teams to root for. The Giants are #1 and the Ravens #2, and after that its a good distance til you reach the rest of my rooting interests, but having Eli’s brother and a couple RU alum on the team makes them one of the good guys in my book. Their past in B’more (before the whole Mayflower incident at least) doesnt hurt either.

I got my e-mail back from my ticket rep.
Now, with regard to your proposed outing out here at Camden Yards.. I can certainly be your main point of contact here for everyone and block of a section and fill orders as people call or email me. That way I can get everyone to sit together, and nobody has to front the money. The group rate discount starts at a minimum of 12 people as you mentioned. At 12 people you get a scoreboard message, per ticket fees are waived and ticket prices are discounted anywhere from $2-$8 per ticket. My intitial thought is that you could mention this to everyone or post a blog spot and that way it can be made for everyone to have one point of contact instead of having to go through customer service.
Let me know what you think and I can start putting some ideas together for you guys!
Well doesn’t that sound nice. No really hard details, but sounds good: cheap tickets, scoreboard message, all sitting together, and no money front. I guess the next step as far as the tickets go would be to actually do a sign-up as to who is buying tickets.

Alright folks, the ball is really rolling, and I have ordered my tickets already.
I will block of a large block of seats for the group..let’s just make sure we are on the same page.
You can reach Patrick at pfields@orioles.com . Contacting this man is THE WAY for you to get your ticket. Include “Camden Chat” in the subject in your e-mail. You can either arrange for your tickets to be mailed to you, in which you pay with a card, or you can give him your name and contact info so that tickets will be at the Will Call office for pick up. Can it be like at church camp.....
….. when all the last day everyone would take all the sinful things they brought on the retreat (i.e. cigarettes, Marilyn Manson Cds, etc and have a big bonfire).
I think we should do this with all our shitty Orioles paraphanalia at the inner harbor prior to the game to cleanse all the bad spirits from this season.
Come on, come all… bring your Rich Hill, Adam Eaton, Luke Scott, Melmo, Simon (if anyone has anything of his), Fat Albers, Brian Bass stuff to the cookout on Oct. 3rd. lol

Yes I was pissed last night
I felt I was attacked and now I read below about my daughter coming, not very welcoming at all. Of course she will be around drinking there, what do you think happens when we go to a game any other time, we don’t sit in the no drinking section. I can’t control what people do at game, 40K is a lot of people. I guess my point is, I don’t feel welcome to go to the game and most of the time on here. If the site doesn’t want new users and opinions, then it should state that. I was looking forward to the game and meeting you guys, but I really don’t think we will be coming and if we do, it will be in another section.

I don't think anyone would disagree that this site has no problem with new users and opinions.
That being said, I also dont think its unreasonable to expect new users to conform to some of the customs and norms that have been long established around here. It would be unfair to expect those on this site who have been around for a long time and have developed a certain culture to accommodate every new user.
Its like BSF regularly posting here. He isn’t really part of this sites usual audience, but he’s certainly been welcome as long as willing to act in a manner that doesn’t substantially disrupt the way this site functions.

Um...
May I ask what I did to make you uncomfortable (Im assuming that was the word you were typing instead of comfortable).
Is there a reason I wouldnt be as welcome at the game as anyone else on the board? I mean, I realize I am a newer member, but I think im pretty reasonable and passionate about the Orioles and am just looking forward to having a good time meeting likeminded fans.
I’m kind of suprised being called out here to tell you the truth. Wow.

I wasn't trying to call you out.
I just used your name. The way that it’s set up now, there are no “invitations” , people who want to come are going to come. I just did not like the dialog that I read in the game thread last night, CC day is going to fun, and it’s not even big deal it’s like going to a baseball game, except that you know that the people sitting around you are really great fans just like you. I don’t want it to be a big deal if O’s21girl comes or doesn’t come or anything.

I dont want to be thrown into whatever Os21girl and Stacey’s dispute is/was. Im not involved with that whole thing except for possibly a comment on the back-and-forth from last night. But dont group us together in the whole “dont like the way we are approaching this”. I have no problem with either of those two, and havent rallied to either side.

Alright, alright.
It’s going to be a fun night. You are coming right? I have no problem with anyone who is coming. I’m sorry I used your name. I guess my impression was wrong. I just got the feeling in the back-and-forth you mentioned, that, you wanted O’s21girl to come, and would bear resentment for whatever made her not want to come.
As for O’s21girl, she keeps on getting into petty arguements with one of our mods and then angrilly proclaimed that she definitely would not be going to the game, har-umph. She was fishing for support at that point. I guess I should have called her, and only her, out for just acting so stupid about it. I included you to make it seem more of a wide-spread problem than it really was, I guess. I did lump you into “her side” in the dispute when I read it, and for that, I apologize.

I'll be there....
but we already had a group going…got that $1 ticket thing, I think the seats are upper reserve on the 1st base side….where will you guys all be again?
by NewYorkOriole on Aug 31, 2009 8:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
apparently home plate
Really, the 1$ tickets have no value unless you AT LEAST move to near home plate. Personally, I move down to the lower level, just because there’s a lot more people, but it’s really nice in the upper deck behind home plate.

Okay, so I'm picking up my tickets on Friday when I go to the game.
He gave me an account number and the actual seats. Section 330 will be around where we’re sitting.
If anyone is taking advantage of MASN’s $1 tickets, this is a great way to get your seats for Oct. 3. You can either be legit, contact Mr. Fields, and when you go to your $1 game, you can pick up your CC Day tickets at will call. Or I guess you can just get $1 to CC Day and meander around. I do know that some upper-deck ushers are sticklers, so be warned.
I’ll have the dollar amount when I get back on Friday.

cool
I’m just trying to iron out who, if anyone, is coming with me. I may end up coming solo like duck as it’s a relatively small number of my friends that I’m willing to bring to meet a bunch of people I myself have never even met.

I’m gonna be there and hopefully witness some sort of Jerry Springer/Montel confrontations. Go O’s!

Wishful thinking
Honestly I thought about that even before a CC gathering idea when I saw the schedule.
But we have a party for him in the afternoon and by the time thats over theres no way we could make it in time since we live an hour 15 minutes or so north. No big deal, we were down there a couple of weeks ago, we were able to go twice this year, so thats not bad for us.

Have we decided on a meet-up place to pregame?
Or am I a bit premature. I wouldnt mind grabbing a couple beers with everyone so the first time I meet “yall” Im not sliding down the row banging into everyone’s knees like “Excuse me, Im Wieters Wieners, Im in B, seat 8, Excuse me, Wieters Wieners here….”. lol
by Wieters Wieners on Sep 9, 2009 1:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah meeting up pre-game is definitely a good idea
I think a little closer to the date we can figure out everyone who’s going and where to meet and all that. If we do decide on ESPN Zone, beware that I am pretty much the most kick ass air hockey player in the history of ever.
