Tigers 7 - Orioles 3, sigh, day games.
via a.espncdn.com
David Hernandez was a let down. Going just three innings and giving up 5 runs putting a kiss of death on this game early. The O's bullpen did a solid job pitching 5 innings giving up 2 runs. It looks like Brian Bass might be running out of magic dust, giving up 7 earned runs in 10.2 innings. Sure it's bad to judge with that sample size but I have the feeling Brian Bass is coming back down to Earth. For DH his last two starts have been struggles, going just 4 ip in his last outing. You figure this means that at some point down the road he will turn into a bullpen pitcher, he has good stuff to be a late inning guy, but he needs more time before we jump to conclusions. In both of his starts after facing teams a second time he has failed to make it past the fourth inning. It's a sign that teams are adjusting to him, now we need to see how he can adjust to them.
On the hitting front, Luke Scott continues to look awful at the plate, Wiggy is making a mockery of Melvin Mora, and day game lineups are bad news for Baltimore. They went just 3-13 with RISP, meaning they had a shot at winning this game in the middle innnings. They didnt get a hit until the 5th inning and Luke stranded three baserunners, two of whom were in scoring position, he is really painful to watch. Huff brought in a run but also really killed a rally GIDP with runners at first and second and no body out. Felix Pie had an RBI (that rhymes) but only saw 7 pitches in 4 ab's, not quality. Robert Andino continues to struggle at the plate, so not having Adam Jones and Cesar Izturis in the lineup really hurts on a day like this.
But the fact is, is that if you dont get good starting pitching you dont win baseball games. FACT. Looking forward to the present, I'm sure DH will get back on the right track or maybe not.

Vote for Boysenberry Pie!
How often will he have a chance to get MBP?

Good summary of the game
but paragraphs are your friend.

When i first looked at this, it was just one big block of text for some reason
Its a little better now. The information was really good, but it was hard to read because there weren’t any breaks in it.

I didn't know this was a day game...
Doesn’t matter though as this was a terrible game all around. Do they keep a statistic of team GIDPs because it seems that whenever we almost have a chance to score we GIDP…its frustrating. I was really hoping Scott would have a big series…he’s in a real funk. This is the first time this year I voted for nobody.

I believe...
…that our unofficial CC nickname for Crowley was, at one point, Whiffy McGIDP. Or possibly that was just a Titov thing.

Pie doesn't rhyme with RBI,
it rhymes with Reboulet.

Best line of the night belongs to Erbe
8IP, 0H, 3BB, 5K, 0ER for Bowie, its a shame he couldn’t finish the game (although it makes sense given his frail history)

This may be the lowest vote total I have ever seen for a game
Are people giving up on the season after the unavoidable swoon?

Somebody needs to step up....
who are the leaders in the O’s dugout? why aren’t we seeing a few bashed up water cooler’s during the god awful interminable swoon’s. We need some folks to get fed up and fired up…..Millar was helpful in years past but today everyone seems too mild mannered

Do you think
bashed up water coolers are what’s standing between the Orioles and not winning? Personally, I’d rather not see the players on my team act like idiots.

+1
In case nobody noticed, Kevbo’s Orioles teams also lost a shitload of games, whether he was bashing water coolers or giving people silly nicknames or dropping his pants or whatever else have you.

I think its exactly what this team needs
how could Adam Jones or Matt Wieters breaking their hand punching a water cooler or doing something stupid NOT help?

I'd like to see the team show some **#*)#!@ spunk
Nothing idiotic, but at least a hard slide into second, or taking back the plate, to wake up the other team and send a tiny message they aren’t going to continue to be patsies. They just seem to meekly accept their ass whuppins from the big boys (esp Red Sox and Yankees). Let them get better, but at some point they have to show some spunk. Just like the Rays did prior to their break out.

This I could go for!
Playing hard, nasty, inspired, fired up baseball. But smashing water coolers I could do without.

A good fight would help
But I think some mental fine tuning from the hitting coach would help these guys focus during their at bats. Sure baseball is a game of failure but some of those at bats were atrocious. Watching strikes and swining at stuff in the dirt or way out of the strike zone is not what you expect to see fromm ML hitters on a consistent basis. We see to much of that.

Not looking for a fight
Just looking for some spunk. I agree with drj that a hard slide or some kind of clear message that we aren’t going to sit around with all this talend and keep losing.

I agree 100%!! My greatest fear is that we care about the Orioles far more than the Orioles care about the Orioles. B-Rob just said he had no clue what their record was and he “hadn’t looked in awhile”. I would at least like confirmation that some guys are fed up with the night after night lack of passion. The inexperience excuse only goes so far. With a couple of the starting pitchers sure. But there is no reason we should be putting up the amount of bagels on the scoreboard we are. I want to see Luke Scott break a bat over his knee in frustration. I want to Huff kick dirt when he grounds into a double play. I want to see water coolers thrown when a reliever comes in and blows a lead. Its called passion and its very much a huge part of sports. Unfortunately, I think there is alot more passion on this board than in the clubhouse.

To be fair
In any sport i’ve played if my team sucked i quit following just how much we were sucking. It just causes me too much anguish when that happens. Personally I dont really care if we finish with the 10th worst record or the 3rd. Really does it make that much of a difference? The young guys will still play really hard because they have something to prove but the others not so much. Next year they will hopefully push through the entire year because we’ll be better.

I don't think Jesus would like Luke breaking bats over his knee.
Also I don’t think fucking up the dugout is called passion – I think it’s called an inability to control your emotions. It’s pretty unprofessional and I don’t think it really has much to do with how much you care about the game or the season or your team or your performance. Just shows that you either a) want people to think you care, or b) can’t control your emotions at all. I could do without either of those.
