O's campaign for Reimold for ROY - The Schmuck Stops Here - baltimoresun.com
The Orioles public relations department has sent out a release making a case for outfielder Nolan Reimold to be the American League Rookie of the Year, based on the fact that he leads all AL rookies in batting average (.274), home runs (14), on-base percentage (.364) and slugging percentage (.461). Not bad for a guy who didn't make the Opening Day roster. The club makes the case that over the last 25 years, only four American League players have led their rookie class in four of the five major offensive stats (RBI is the only category Reimold doesn't lead), and all four of them -- Tim Salmon, Nomar Garciaparra, Ben Grieve and Evan Longoria -- won the Rookie of the Year Award. -duck

Mickolio sore - The Schmuck Stops Here
As if the Orioles need any more good news, reliever Kam Mickolio is returning to Baltimore to have his sore arm examined by orthopedic specialist Dr. John Wilckens. Mickolio has been experiencing some tenderness in his right bicep, but team officials expect him to rejoin the club in New York for the weekend. -duck

Matusz, Waring earn O's top minor league honors -- baltimoresun.com
Last year's top pick, lefty Brian Matusz, has been named the Orioles' organization's minor league Pitcher of the Year, and Brandon Waring, an offseason trade acquisition, is its position Player of the Year. -Stacey

Janet Marie Smith focuses on Baltimore Orioles Sarasota venue - Tampa Bay Business Journal:
Janet Marie Smith rejoined the Baltimore Orioles to oversee renovations of the team's new spring training venue in Sarasota and upgrades and renovations at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. (And she's got her hands full with that place!) -duck

SCANDAL! Speaking of Janet Marie Smith, it appears she was forced out of her most recent job with the BoSox by John Henry's young bride: John Henry’s new wife takes reins in conflict over team’s real estate - BostonHerald.com
Henry benched Janet Marie Smith, the team’s vice president for planning and development, just weeks after his June wedding to Linda Pizzuti. "Janet Marie was told to go because Linda’s taking over the whole damn place," said one person familiar with Smith’s exit. Another source said, "Janet was thrown under the bus and everything is a mess as a result of the young bride. The Chinese symbol for conflict is two women under one roof." -zk

Year of the stolen base - Delmarva Shorebirds Blog
2009 was the year of the stolen base and overall team speed. The Shorebirds are going to finish with the most team stolen bases since the 2000 season. With two home games left, the Shorebirds have also averaged 3,583 fans per night this season - that is the largest average attendance since 2002. -duck

Former O can't stop The Captain Derek Jeter from history - MASNsports.com
Former Oriole Chris Richard finally has returned to the majors - just in time to commit a costly throwing error at first base on a potential double-play ball, and to make a futile dive for Derek Jeter's single that tied Lou Gehrig's franchise record for career hits. -duck

Metro - Shrinking attendance a cause for concern amid lost season for Blue Jays
Just so you don't think we're unique...the Blue Jays are starting to get a taste of what the Orioles have known for years: a diminishing record means diminishing attendance. -zk

Did anyone watch the end of the Nats game last night?

I turned it on just at the top of the 9th and was going to change the channel but then got caught up in the carnage. They were up 8-2 in the top of the 9th and just fell apart. They finally won 8-7 thanks to Ryan Howard hitting into a game ending double play.

I was sort of hoping they’d lose because it would be such a ridiculous thing to watch live, but then I heard a bunch of fans start chanting “Let’s Go Phillies” and changed my mind right quick (they were in DC). I have nothing against the Phillies at all, but it was just too much of a reminder of the out of town fans in Baltimore. I didn’t want those people who were chanting for the Phillies in the Nats park to get the satisfaction of a win.

Yep

I have noticed the similarities to Camden Yards and Nats Park alllllll year (in terms of the fans in attendance). I went to the Nats/Phillies game on Tuesday — with my Philly fan friend — and while there may or may not have been more Philly fans than Nats fans, there was no question that the Phillies fans were far, far more vocal, like it was their home park.

nats games are generally home games for any team they play

i only got to 6 games there this year, but in all 6, nats fans were clearly outnumbered. then again, i was cheering for the o’s in 2 of those 6……

Some of the comments in the “new wife ousts Smith” article are amusing.

Next up for Toronto fans: boston and new york blowhards telling them how they are lame fans and they should get their asses to the stadium to support their team.

As someone who is also a Phillies fan..

Yes I saw the end of the game. If it wasn’t a double play we would’ve tied it, but anyway great inning..
One the Phillies fan thing..The Nationals, unlike the Orioles ENCOURAGE Phillies fans to show up. I kid you not, I got emails from MLB with ticket SPECIALS for phillies fans at nats park. The email basically says"can’t get tickets in Philly, come to DC, heres ticket deals!" I certainly understand why you don’t like out of town fans taking over stadiums like OPACY, but the Nationals not only welcome but encourage other teams(at least Phillies )fans to show up..I guess they only care about the $$$$…Just thought I’d share as to the best of my knowledge the Orioles have never sent ticket specials to PHN or Yankees fans, as a matter of fact they raise the prices for them.
And on the Jeter thing, he is probably the only Yankee I can’t say bad words about. I Don’t like him, but can respect him. I wish this hit won’t happen vs the O’s so I don’t have to hear my in laws rant on how great it was and vs your o’s etc.. but hey in a positive for me, if the O’s can hold em hitless tonight I won’t have to hear about it for a week since we’re leaving for Disney World tomorrow.and I won’t be back till friday and by then they’ll probably have moved on to picking on their friends from boston.
Sorry if that was long!

I'm sorry but

If its was aroid or texiera, then yeah, i’d have a problem. I may not like Jeter, but I respect him. I believe you can hate a team, but respect its players. Jeter seems like a class act . If i’m wrong correct me, but I never remember him having any off the field issues. And anyway, virtually everyone in CC knows I like the Phils and O’s. I PROUDLY support both teams. I live one hour or so from Baltimore and 45 from Philly. I agree by the way, I’m hating Boston more than the Yankees.

Here's why I can't respect Jeter (much)

Because although he is a great player, and doesn’t talk a lot of shit or get into public shenanigans, he is “the Captain” for a reason.

He’s gone on record as saying words to the effect that he is proud to be a leader in Yankee baseball, and basically encourages the arrogance of fellow players and fans.

In other words, he’s really proud of everyone else for being an asshole, even though he comes off looking good.

Fuck that.

You don't EVEN KNOW who O's21girl is!

That's annoying.

I really have nothing personally against him although I think he seems like a dbag to tell you the truth.

What really bothers me is that MFY fans act like he is waaaaayyyy better than he is. And all that bullshit talk about his “intangibles”. And all the media attention that was given to “the play” where he cut that throw off and got Giambi at the plate (a) why was he over there in the first place?? b) why did he cut the throw off?? c) if Giambi had slid he would have been safe, so it’s not that big of a deal).

i guess i can respect jeter

but i probably hate him more than any other yankee, and i’ll say all kinds of bad shit about him. nothing makes me cringe more than seeing him sticking his ass out at a 3-2 pitch and getting a call. fucking disgrace. its become a joke how much the umps have given him and the fucking jorge posadas of the world for the past 10 years. i hope he has a griffeylike fall from grace and wears out his welcome to the point of awkwardness, but i guess that wont be for another few years.

but on the whole i’d say my hatred for boston has now safely passed my hatred for NY, anyone else with me on that?

jeez

talk about trying to choose the lesser of two evils…

i detest the PHNs, really do. but if they actually make it to the postseason, i hope they beat nyc, because 1) i don’t think they’re a solid team, and there’s a decent chance the dodgers will clean their clocks; and 2) there are many reasons why i don’t want the yankees to win the series this year: the new off-season signings, joe girardi and his stupid uniform number, derek jeter, etc. eulchhhhhhh.

of course, a perfect world is that texas makes the postseason over boston and the mfy get beat by the angels.

that said, a freeway series means my two least favorite teams are disappointed again, so there’s that.

Dodgers fans also show up late and leave early. They’re a bit more passionate about their team than Angels fans especially if the Giants are in town. I saw a Dodgers versus Phillies game earlier this summer and people who wore Phillies gear were jeered hard. This would have never happened in Angels stadium.

I went to Angels/Mets game last year. There were two really loud Mets fan who started up “Let’s go Mets!” chants on several occasions. Angels fans just sat there. It wasn’t until the 9th inning that the Angels fans started to try to drown out them out. And then the Mets won in the 10th with a home run by their crappy utility players (not Tatis, can’t remember who it was though). The great thing is that a Angels fan in front of me was talking about how he had no power and then literally five seconds later, home run.

They’re the worst “true” fans, very rude and obnoxious. (I’m not counting the PHN bandwagon fans if they ever start losing they’ll be gone! )Thankfully they haven’t been coming to Philly as much since CBP opened. I have NEVER met as Mets fan who hasn’t had something smart ass to say, even this year when they’re trailing by like 15 games.

Screech Fiorentino walks up to the plate and hits a grand slam. Yeah… seriously.

Approaching home he lines up and does a gymnastics floor routine. You know, running from one corner to the other with the flips and somersaults and shit.

At home plate, Joe Buck is there to interview him, and somehow I’ve gotten down onto the field and I’m just running around screaming, “HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Joe Buck turns to me and gives me the stink eye and says, “You know, our microphone can pick that up.” So I then said, “Attention America: Joe Buck is a terrible broadcaster!”
