O's pleased with production of minor league system -- baltimoresun.com
"I thought we had a very good year in what really counts, and that's introducing players to the big leagues and how they performed once they got here," Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said. -zk

Looking at MVO, is Izzy in the discussion? - MASNsports.com
Do you find it outrageous that at least one beat writer has suggested that he might choose Cesar Izturis, mainly because the veteran has stabilized the shortstop position and been spectacular in the field? Izturis is hitting .251 in 94 games, and is in the throes of a 2-for-23 slump. -duck
Have Arm, Will Travel - Bats Blog - NYTimes.com
On Tuesday morning, Henn boarded a flight [from Dallas] to Boston, reporting directly to Fenway Park. He struck out J.D. Drew, gave up hits to Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz, and presumably found a place to stay. When he arrived, he did not have one. “Don’t go to the hotel,” the Orioles had told him. “We don’t have a reservation for you.” -zk
Power Rankings have O's at #28 - SI.com
Because of three off days, the Orioles had a very light week, which is probably a good thing, because it was mostly all bad news. Lost in all the attention about the Pirates clinching a 17th consecutive losing season was the fact that the Orioles lost their 82nd game last week, giving them 12 straight years of sub-.500 records. -duck

With so many good questions from fans on his entry from last week, Brian gave his usual update on the O's before answering a few extra questions from fans. -duck

“MacPhail: O’s top prospects won’t be used as trade bait — baltimoresun.com”
= good news for the day.
Well, it's B-Mats today, plus a bunch of groggy Orioles, against a Yankee team still basking in the afterglow of Justin Turner's First Hit
Derek who?
In other news — that you can actually make a few rubles on — SC is a 7-pt. fave at The Ohio State University, so called because it is located in Columbus, The Ohio, I guess. Anyway, hee-hee, take that bet. To the frickin’ bank. Oh, OK, it could rain, I suppose — which can do funny things, like make the Yerkees suck and lose. Still it’d take a tsunami in Columbus. Nah, get that bet down.
And as a freebie bonus pick, bet Snodfart to beat the 3-pt spread at Wake. Oh, and TN by 8 over UCLA? An understatement, I’d say.
Season record: 1-1, plus 100 rubles
Go O’s!

You know, I actually COULD bet on NFL games know.
Dover’s an hour away. I need three teams this weekend. Baltimore and New Orleans are stone cold locks. Which other game should I bet? San Diego?
Jim Palmer: "I said to Nolan, 'Why do you run every ball out like that?' and he said, 'Why wouldn’t you?' "
Forget it, you've got to have at least three POINT SPREAD winners.
That’s ridiculous.
Jim Palmer: "I said to Nolan, 'Why do you run every ball out like that?' and he said, 'Why wouldn’t you?' "
Agreed. I don't follow pro close enough to bet it, but isn't there a "barber shop," "general store" or "fire house" near you?
And why am I putting everything in “quotation marks”? So the NFL enforcement goons won’t bust me in my garret apartment in NE Moscow?

I'm already 1-0 for football this year
Pittsburgh to win, but not by by the 6.5 spread.

That is hilarious!
He’s really growing on me. First calling Albers the fatboy that he is and now screaming fuck on one of the most historic nights of the most storied franchise of storied franchises!
also the macphail quotes were interesting
Os will pay the money but won’t trade the talent ………
so …. Adrian Gonz. NO
but …. John Lackey YES
i can live with that
as can i
i see absolutely no need to trade for gonzalez unless they are willing to take rich hill and danys baez for him. if macphail will pop for a decent SP, we could be in business (with a little bullpen help too). on a related note, is koji worth bringing back next year?

Koji
is absolutely worth bringing back next year. His old and worn down frame may not be suited for starting anymore, but I will take 1-2 innings of his semi-effectiveness out of the bullpen. I think he will fit in as a long-relief option with the potential to work the middle innings of a close game.
Not to mention we would have to eat some portion of his contract even if he wouldn’t be with us, so why not?

Izzy for MVO
This is the same logic that got Jason Bartlett a MVRay last year. It was ridiculous then, and it would be ridiculous now.
so who is it then?
I guess mine is Bergesen
