Community Prospect List

I think it would be fun to see what the CC community thinks of the Orioles prospects. So I thought of a way to do it. Each person should make a list of their top five prospects and submit it here http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGpXUU9DREFYZGVPSnhoTV80M1FaVnc6MA..

I will than compile the data and evaluate based on whats next.

If your top prospects are (this is not my real list)

1. Billy Rowell

2. Caleb Joseph

3. Brandon Waring

4. Brandon Erbe

5. Brandon Snyder

Than Rowell would get five points. Joseph 4. Waring 3 etc....

After a few days Ill post the results and find out who CC voted the Orioles' top prospects. Heres me REAL list.

1. Zach Britton

2. Jake Arrieta

3. Josh Bell

4. Brandon Erbe

5. Brandon Snyder

If you have any questions ask!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Lets try to keep Matusz off the lists even if he is still considered a prospect.

FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

Only five?

1. Arrieta
2, Bell

4. Britton
5. Snyder

You didn’t ask, but…

7. Waring
8. Patton
9. Johnson
10. Avery

Ya only five

That doesn’t mean the final list will have ten. It is just easier if everyone gives just top 5.

I can't follow as much as I'd like, but...

1. Arrieta
2.Bell
3.Britton
4.Waring
5.Hobgood

My five

I guess we’re assuming Matusz can’t be on here (although baseball america can and will make him number 1):

1. Bell
2. Britton
3. Arrieta
4. Erbe
5. Snyder

You really think Britton will be better than Arrieta?

Have you thought that all along or did Britton’s performance this past year bump him up?

I liked that one article that came out this year that said something like, “Before this was Jake Arrieta and Brian Matusz and Chris Tillman’s organization, this was Zach Britton’s organization.” It made me imagine a scenario where Britton has a chip on his shoulder (in the good way) and is all, “I’ll show them for forgetting about me!”

I just like him better is all

left-handed, moved up a level, got a bump in strikeouts (7 to 8.4 per 9) and an insane ground ball rate (3.38 GO/AO, 6 HR) = win for me.

I saw Arrieta pitch against the Red Wings just before the end of the season and he was outstanding, so it’s not really a knock on him – though he wasn’t OUTSTANDING like we’ve seen Brian Matusz be. I just like Britton more.

If Arietta and Britton work out

We could have no starters older than 26 for the 2011 campaign. And Bergesen, Tillman, and Matusz would be in their 3rd MLB seasons.

Well

If Bergesen, Tillman, Matusz, Arrieta, and Britton all work out, it’ll probably the most successful group of prospects in history. My money is on Matusz plus two of the other four working out. And I’d be happy with that.

The good news

is that the Orioles have stocked the farm system with a lot more quality quantity even after Britton. To wit:

Patton, Berken, Hernandez, Erbe, Zagone, Nery, McCurry, Drake, Hobgood, Frabizio, Berry, Moreland all have at least some interestingness to them.

The bad news is that we’re totally, 100% counting on our one or two hitting prospects to work out or the offense is boned. And the odds are just completely against that.

Matusz

Does Matusz qualify? IIRC, he is still eligible to win ROY next year?

2. Arrieta
3. Britton
4. Bell
5. Erbe

Six would be Snyder.

I take it that

Tillman has too many starts/innings to qualify next year?

by sickuvitall on Sep 25, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We won't keep them all

1. Matusz
2. Arrieta
3. Bell
4. Britton
5. Waring

I am convinced that none of our 1B prospects has the potential for 40 HRs per season (I don’t know much about Hughes), so I think some of our pitching prospect depth will be traded over the winter for a legit power hitter for 1B. Snyder, Pie and a top pitching prospect should get it done. My guess is the pitching prospect will either be Arrieta or Tillman, but I hope not.

Final Results

Jake Arietta 35
Josh Bell 31
Zach Britton 29
Brandon Erbe 14
Brandon Waring 5
Brandon Snyder 4
Matt Hobgood 2

You can see the full results here

My Take: Pretty much what I expected. A bit shocked to see people already considering Hobgood a top prospect. We have only seen him in the Rookie League and not at higher levels yet.
