So I made the mistake of going over to the Yankee SB blog....

oh my goodness. Don’t go there if you value your sanity. You should have heard what they were saying about Baltimore and it’s fans (I mean, you swept us. Do you have to rub it in even more?). And then they started complaining about how terrible the MASN feed and Oriole broadcasters were. Seriously? Do you even know who you have broadcasting on your precious Yankees Radio Network?? I am really pissed off at the Yankees and their fans right now. I’m just so sick of losing to that team of arrogant blowhards…..

Meh

The Orioles, Orioles fans, and Camden Yards will get respect when the team starts playing well. The Orioles are irrelevant and they are a laughingstock, and rightly so. Usually whenever other teams’ fans talk about the Orioles and the O’s fan base, what they say hurts but is usually true. The thing that bothers me, and I read it on a lot of sites, not just Yankees, is when the Orioles do well and the O’s fans at the game cheer and the opposing teams’ fans say something along the lines of, “Shut up Orioles fans. What do you have to cheer for? Another losing season?” So because the Orioles are having another losing season all fans should sit quietly like church mice?

Oh I agree with you...

I know what they say is true, it’s just frustrating. As far as respect, it’ll be nice when we finally get that for being a winning team, but what happened to just being respectful, period? I know, I know, I’m being way too naive and expecting way too much from any fanbase (much less the Yankee fanbase).

On a related note, what was everyone’s first memory of hating the Yankees? What did it for you? For me, I inherited it from my dad, but the main event I can remember is being 12 and watching Jeff Maier grab that Home Run ball from Tony Tarasco. You could argue that it wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the series, but it still gets me to this day just how he was glorified by NYC. That right there convinced me the Yankees are pure evil. I don’t think I’ll be happy until we beat them in an ALCS.

Anyway, what about you?

Crowley in the PIe article says:
Sometimes, he tries to do a little bit too much and he has to try to play a little more under control, but you’d rather see a guy trying to do too much than a guy who’s complacent and doesn’t care about anything but swinging the bat. I take that as a positive, and we can mold him into a real solid player, from what I’ve seen.

I definitely agree. Although it was just silly back when he was putting his glove in the stands every time a foul ball went 10 rows back.

Adam Jones + injuries = frustration

I hate to be the pessimist, but I have a bad feeling that we are seeing the beginnings of a trend here. It is getting to the point now that every time I see Adam exert himself on the baseball field, I hold my breath until he shows signs that no injury occurred. You can only call them “freak accidents” for so long…I only hope that I am wrong about his future.

Trembley and "unprofessionalism"

Did anyone read Roch’s post last night about DD’s post-game remarks? Essentially, the players’ families congregate near the clubhouse and they were loud last night and Trembley was quietly stewing about it. He made a remark about “lack of professionalism”. This is the kind of thing that bugs me about Trembley. What the hell is “professionalism”? To me, professionalism has to do with players and coaches and team officials. Gee Dave, I’m sorry the players’ CHILDREN were making noise after the ballgame. They’re CHILDREN. Get the stick out of your ass. I guess the Yankees’ kids don’t make a peep? I understand how he could be annoyed and frustrated after a bad loss, but dragging professionalism into it is just dumb.

You know what’s unprofessional? Your lousy third base coach flat-out telling reporters that some of the players don’t belong in the major leagues.

I 100% disagree.

Who cares if they’re children or not? They shouldn’t be running around the clubhouse like it’s a playground. It’s a WORK ENVIRONMENT. He’s supposed to be conducting a postgame interview (which I’m pretty sure is league-mandated), and he can’t even hear himself think.

I don’t know where you work, but in most office environments I’ve been to, you don’t see kids running around and screaming while work is going on. This is no different.

I’m sure that losing a close game in the last inning didn’t help. He was upset about it. Know what? The players should be too. It speaks volumes about the clubhouse. A professional environment in there might translate to a better product on the field. Maybe the guys on the team are a little too loose. Is this something Trembley has to face all the time, or is it only reserved for the moments after a three game sweep to a division rival?

Sure, children yell and scream and run around. Some do it some of the time, some do all of the time. It’s always interesting to see which parents think it has its time and place and which ones think, “well they’re children, so it’s okay” no matter what the time and place.

I don't think Dave meant kids should be "professional"

I think he was searching for a diplomatic way to say “I wish those little pants shitters would shut the fuck up.”

Not that they ought to wear their Sunday best and be seen and not heard, but those wives know they’re right next to the media room, they need to rein them in.

I hadn't thought of it that way

I’ll admit that my rant was probably more of a knee jerk reaction to Nestor’s tweet about it this morning (I know, I know), in which he took DD’s words out of context and used them as an indictment of the whole organization:

Nestor says: I think #Trembley said it best: “Unprofessional” perfectly describes most aspects of the #Orioles organization…

Stacey and I were discussing the irritating bias of WNST just last night, and the tweet this morning was the last straw for me to unsubscribe to their feed.

The idea of WNST calling anyone else out for unprofessionalism is laughable in its hypocrisy.

I keep seeing people talking about Mad Men

That is probably going to be next on my list of shows to check out. A pretty broad variety of people I know seem to like it and that’s usually a good sign. But I haven’t had that one last push to check it out yet.

An ex-gf and her roommate were obsessed with Project Runway. I have to admit, I didn’t completely hate it. Was interesting just on the level of like… here’s a window into a world I know absolutely nothing about. Some of the challenges were surprisingly neat and the inevitable drama when egotistical people collide was funny too.

Hands down the best thing running on television right now. The first season is about as close to flawless as you can get.

I just finished the first season of How I Met Your Mother last night. Overall, I like it. Barney is a great character, and I like following the ups and downs of being a single guy. But (SPOILER WARNING), Lily leaving for SF was so lame. It’s like the writers wanted to create a shocking plot twist for the sake of creating a shocking plot twist. And Ted and Robin have zero chemistry. I did not root for them to get together at no point during the season. Victoria was much better for him. Hope she comes back.

How I Met Your Mother is great

The only show I watch that has new episodes right now is True Blood. Summer, you know. I’ve been DVR’ing reruns of The West Wing on Bravo but they’re starting to pile up and I think I might have to stop soon.

Current shows that I’ll watch when they return: It’s Always Sunny, 30 Rock, The Office, Friday Night Lights, LOST, Grey’s Anatomy (although it’s sort of just a habit at this point), Gossip Girl. Oh and I’m looking forward to that show Glee.

Loved The West Wing!

Had its flaws during its run, but I think it started strong and ended strong. Great ensemble cast for a long time. The people felt real and so did most of the plots. You could tell they were grasping for a little bit in the post-9/11 environment. They found a pretty good balance.

Plus, how can you not love Toby? His constant misanthropy is so endearing.

I didn't watch it to the end

With all that John Goodman and Jimmy Smits stuff, I just got over it. Awhile back I had a day off work and found it on Bravo and it was the pilot episode so I thought it’d be fun to re-watch. I’m just up to about where Sam Seaborn leaves for good, but they show two episodes per day and most days I don’t even watch one so it’s getting to be too much. I need a cold rainy day to have myself a marathon.

As for post 9/11, that episode they did where they were on lockdown with the high school students or whatever, I found just awful. I understand what they were trying to do, but it was painful.

CJ is my favorite, she just kicks so much ass. And Sam, but mostly because Rob Lowe is so pretty.

I'm a recent convert to HIMYM too

Pretty much binged in the whole show so far in the last month. I think the show is at its best when it’s trying to be funny. Which is not to say there aren’t some genuinely touching moments, but some of them, like you said, are like Lily leaving for SF and come across as a bit lame. I don’t think they take away from the overall enjoyment of the show, though.

Had never seen an episode of that show before 2 months ago

We went on vacation to Hawaii for a week and when we spent a few days on the Big Island, the place pretty much shuts down by 9pm local time, but we were never tired until a couple of hours later. The only thing on TV in the hotel was … NCIS reruns. Didn’t take much to get hooked on that guilty pleasure. Heh!

Past guilty pleasure shows of mine have included CSI and JAG and really, NCIS is like those two combined, so I guess it’s no surprise I enjoy it from time to time.

Would you like to be a Rays fan?

This is who we are and this is what we do. People better get used to it, because it’s going to continue.

Rays owner explains Kazmir trade

Makes me wonder if we’d hear this from the Orioles owner one day, assuming they ever got good to begin with.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that

Are you saying that like the Rays, the Orioles are going to be cheap and trade away players because of money? If so, I couldn’t disagree more. Since the Rays have existed they’ve been in the lower half of payrolls in the American League and pretty much the Orioles have been in the upper half. Peter Angelos hasn’t been shy about paying a bunch of money, he and his front office have just been poor decision makers on how to spend it.

If you’re talking about trading away a player who is getting paid more than he is worth so that you’ll have younger, cheaper players in the future to help keep your team competitive, then I hope we do hear that from the Orioles owner one day.

Trading players who make a lot of money/who are about to make a lot of money has worked pretty well for the Oakland A’s. I hope that when the Orioles do get good, they’ll be able to take the best of both worlds. Their finances and owner who is willing to spend will allow them to sign/keep players who are worth a lot of money, but I hope they’ll have the wisdom to see when to get rid of players for prospects who will keep the talent funnel producing.

Great thoughts

Especially the part about continuing the talent funnel. I don’t want the organization to think that they have made enough moves and that the next decade is full of guaranteed success. We could just as easily fall back into the trends of the last decade, which might send me to an early grave…

I interpret Sternberg in this way rather than the other way. They’re not going to let a popularity prevent them from making a good baseball decision. And my interpretations of things are smarter than everybody else. Deal with it!

That was a horrible interview with Bell

Which makes no sense

for the following reasons:

1) It was already determined that Brandon does not have the defensive skills to play 3B

2) That creates an issue considering that two of our best positional prospects (Snyder and Josh Bell) would now be occupying the same position

The corner infield positions could prove to be a tough fill if the organization doesn’t figure something out soon. I expect both Bell and Snyder to be in ST next year, as well as the slew of half-ass 1B “prospects” such as new Aubrey and Rhyne whatever. I hope that Brandon Waring continues to dominate the minors and is able to make an impact in the bigs in the next few seasons…

well they won't be occupying the same position seeing as tho bell is at AA and snyder AAA

there’s an extra letter there…..i dont know much about the rhyne guy or whatever his name is, but aubrey isn’t really a prospect. he’s just depth that was added to provide the chance to trade huff. i doubt he’s here to stay.

i think it’s going to be bell’s job at 3b, but it cant hurt to let snyder take a few reps there occasionally.
