Melmo had a gem of a quote yesterday
“I think my motivation is to see the other guys in the clubhouse. They’re contending for the playoffs, and when I see that it gets into my body. I play like it’s the playoffs too”

hello, new sig line!
Then you call 'em in and say, 'It's the consensus among us that we're going to let you go back home.' Some of them cry, some get mad, but none of them will leave until you answer them one question, 'Skipper, what do you think?' And you gotta look every one of those kids in the eye and kick their dreams in the ass and say no. If you say it mean enough, maybe they do themselves a favor and don't waste years learning what you can see in a day. —Earl Weaver

Look at those
packed stands filled with actual O’s fans for the 2131 game….ahhh, maybe again someday. Hopefully this time it would be for a team achievement and not individual.

Great win last night over El Salvador
Costa Rica did us no favors though when they decided to get blown out at home for the first time in at least a year

"i've never seen so many 2 strike fouls"
what in gods name are you saying here dave? “hell, if he keeps fouling it off, just walk him.” i know what he means but think about it. would you rather lead the league in walks again and have old radhemis up there “just leting it go?” or would you rather at least force the other team to beat you. i’ll take my young pitchers giving up hits over walks any day.

that is pretty dumb.
pitch count pitch count pitch count. Its the Yankees. The Yankees aren’t gonna first pitch swing into easy pop ups. It will take anyone a hell of a lot of work to get them out.
I don’t think Dave wants to lead the league in walks… he wants to do what we’ve done most of the season… get ahead in the count and throw a belt-high fastball right down the middle. It doesn’t take a genius to see the problem with that strategy.

In fact, the past few weeks have been so discouraging that fan confidence in The Plan appears to be at an all-time low, and why not?
What the fuck are you talking about? Confidence in The Plan is at an all time HIGH, because MacPhail hasn’t panicked and traded away the parts, the way you seem to want him to.
Instead of the late-season upturn that was supposed to turn all eyes toward a new era of competitive Orioles baseball, the biggest question this September is whether the O’s are going to lose 100 games for only the third time in franchise history.
WAHHHHHHH!!!!! (bangs high chair, throws cheerios across the room) WAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
so the Orioles may have to gamble on one of the high-quality free agents with an injury history.
Seriously? You’re really gonna advocate this? “Let’s sign Erik Bedard and tell all the kids that he’s earned the right to start in front of them”. HOW DO YOU HAVE A JOB.

No, I realized it around the time I first read his columns.

This may be the dumbest sentence in the whole thing...
It’s time for MacPhail to bolster his reputation as a master dealmaker and use some of his “inventory” to fill the gaping hole in the middle of the lineup.
Yes, because trading 2 or 3 of the grouping of Matusz, Tillman, Bergesen and Arrieta for a 3B or a 1B would change EVERYTHING!
