New Years Day Open Thread
Possible New Year's Resolutions by various Orioles:
Nick Markakis - Cut the "you knows" down to 1 per interview. Go to the gym so that O'sFan21 will get over it.
Brian Roberts - No more lollygagging!
Ty Wigginton - Less tripping, more flying headbutts in 2010.
Felix Pie - Play with even more exuberance now that sad sack Melvin Mora isn't around to glare at everyone.
Matt Wieters - Stop testing the faith of the believers; start rewarding it.
Luke Scott - Mullet free in 2010!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Feel free to add to the resolutions, either your own or for the O's.
JUST A FEW NEWS ITEMS ON THIS FIRST DAY OF 2010...
Devo's back as a Shorebird; Minor promoted to manager
"Former center fielder Mike Devereaux will serve as field coach for the Shorebirds in 2010, replacing former third baseman Ryan Minor, who has been promoted to manager." Good choice. Minor has been an excellent hitting coach, and I'm excited to see Devo on a regular basis in Salisbury. -duck
Orioles make strides in signing international amateurs - baltimoresun.com
"Clearly, we have placed a greater emphasis on it," MacPhail said. "We have dedicated more resources, improved facilities, and spent more on entry-level talent than we have in the past. And it is an area we'll continue to look to be aggressive in." -duck
AP source: Mets, Bay reach preliminary agreement
"Free agent slugger Jason Bay and the New York Mets have reached a preliminary agreement, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Tuesday." Not sure if we'd posted this yet, so here it is. -duck
O's on Deck: Chris Waters signs minor league deal with Brewers
"Left-handed pitcher Chris Waters has signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. Waters, 29, was 4-5 with a 5.07 ERA in 16 games, including 12 starts, in parts of two seasons with the Orioles." -duck

I'm trying to use my kids swim schedule as my reasoning
I’m there already, might as well do something…

O's Resolutions
AJ: The Orioles are actually gonna be good this year, and you’re gonna be a part of that, so no more tripping over yourself and otherwise getting needlessly injured and leaving a big hole in the team!
My New Years Resolution
is for the Orioles to be a decent team this year.
Thats how this works, right?
yes.
thanks heavens somebody finally posted this.
now all our problems are solved. :)

I think it only works
if you’re Andy MacPhail or Dave Trembley.

Are we not men? We are Devo! Go Shorebirds!!
Re yesterday’s newspaper discussion: WaPo Russia coverage has been awful for some years now, particularly the knee-jerk, myopic editorial stuff. And to think, back in the day they used to have Bob Kaiser, Dusko Doder, Gary Lee and several other v. good USSR/Russia hands. NYT is markedly better, but still nowhere near the level of Hedrick Smith, Serge Schmemmann and others of decades past.
Just shoot me: Criminy, 1-3 yesterday on NCAA FB. The whole thing is becoming one big Tidy Bowl for me, Mr. Little Guy in the Boat going down the loo. Or Comrade Little Guy, maybe. Anyway, it’s going to take a sudden and massive infusion of sanity into today’s action to right the current misery (7-11). I got
NW-ern beats Aub; PA St. beats LSU; WV over FL St.; FL over Cinn; and Orygun drubs Ooph St. in the marquee (5 pm).
OK, I’ll just set my window a bit wider here so I won’t hit a lot of messy glass first as I make my way down to the pavement below. There, I’m all ready.
Happy New Year! Go O’s!

Lord have mercy Titov
2-3 on Friday. 9-14 overall. I certainly expected the bar to be set higher. Fear not though…I am only a taint hair above .500 on my picks. Rough bowl season for sure.
And yes, Happy New Year and Go O’s!
As Richard Lewis would put it: I'm a dead man.
In fact, I should’ve let Richard Lewis make my picks. Or Lewis Richards. Or Denise Richards. There is a strong possibility that none of ‘em wouldn’t have hit at least 10 by now by throwing darts.
Worst. Bowl. Season. Ever.

ahem
It could be worse. You could have worn these last night.
Don’t judge what you don’t understand!
Think of the poor people...
who wont be able to sell those next year! 2011? Ya can’t fit 2 eyes in that number! How will they survive?!?
Nevermind
they’ll be ok. From the looks of this,

they discovered that they can put an eyehole in the middle of a #1. Godspeed, stupid eyewear pushers!
"They’re really not good for peripheral vision."
What were you doing, driving a race car? I can’t imagine peripheral vision was your biggest concern at 12:01 a.m. New Year’s Day.
