Camden Chat's Top 10s for 2008 and 2009
Opening Day 2010 will be the 6th Opening Day to be covered by Camden Chat, as we opened our doors on March 11, 2005. The site has grown tremendously since then thanks to the hard work put in by our former Cobra Commander SC and the SB Nation team. For reference, in 2005 the most comments on one post was 102 when the Orioles beat the Mariners (you might not want to actually read the comments though since it was from that two month period in 2005 when O's fans were actually happy). In 2009 our most commented post was Birdland Day (technically two posts due to overflow) with 1467.
It's no secret that the community here at Camden Chat is what keeps it going and what takes it a level beyond other Orioles blogs around the internet. I fully anticipate that our community will continue to grow in 2010, hopefully in part due to the fact that the Orioles improve on the field and get its fanbase excited again. So as we move towards the 2010 baseball season, it seems like fun to take a look at some stats for the past few years to show just who is contributing to our awesome corner of the blogO'sphere.

A few interesting facts, we added 923 new members in 2009 and our current member total is 1,514. So over 60% of our membership is from 2009. That's a huge bump, one that I know a lot of the old timers noticed this year. Similarly, the 126,157 comments from 2009 represents about 46% of the total comments made on this blog ever. I mean, wow.
I think the drop in Fan Posts is attributable to our open threads taking away the need to post an entire FanPost for a simple question/comment. I adore the open threads.

While these numbers came to me from the tech guys at SB Nation, they got me wondering (and therefore searching) about some other occurrences at Camden Chat in 2009, such as:
- Our favorite potty mouthed poster O'sFan21 dropped the F Bomb in 831 of his 7910 comments, about 10% of the time. That's of course way more than 831 uses of that particular word as he often states it multiple times in one comment.
- Baltimo, Felix Pie's biggest supporter, commented about him 157 times.
- The phrase "deal with it" was written 180 times, often in all capital letters.
- The name of John Gibbons was invoked 175 times.

I wonder how many times I’ve defended Amber.
Vizzini: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates?
Man in Black: Yes.
Vizzini: Morons.
I'm a tad surprised I'm not in either top 10
I haven’t really posted since beginning college in September, but I was a pretty frequent poster before then.
ROFLMAO
From the Mariners thread:
I have to be honest…
…Cabrera makes me all squidgy inside. I adore him. I really think that he’s going to shape up into a wonderful pitcher. Sure, he’s got rough times early on, but there’s flashes of greatness there in ways that there never, ever is with, oh, say, Ponson.

Cabrera
I’m turning into a silent huge fan in my own head. I envision something of a right-handed, Dominican Randy Johnson.

I know I cracked up when I read that
Although it was a full three years before the Cabrera Bowl so he had plenty of time to smarten up. You, friend, were a bit slower on the uptake :)
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha
Daniel Cabrera: the “taller, more Hispanic Sid.” Oh, and without the class.

here's some tidbits you might enjoy...
both pitchers in your article won awards: in a sports illustrated poll, daniel cabrera was voted as the player who “got the least out of the most talent”. is that a good thing or a bad thing? anyways, im sure we can all attest to that, he got NOTHING out of his “incredible talent”. sidney ponson was voted the decade’s most useless player in the MLB by espn. nuff said.

Sid-- Most Useless?!?
I guess drunken slovenliness doesn’t count for anything any more.

my numbers pale in comparison to the top ten
honestly, I spend so much time on this site but I don’t say much. I’m not even sure if I’m recognized or not!
Anyways, thanks to everyone for making this such a great place to read about the O’s. You are all great people to commiserate with
I like how the magic number
of fanposts to make the list was 20 in 2008 and then 11 the next year…and how only three members wrote 20 fanposts in 2009
fanposts were higher on the page i the old layout
they got pushed way down when SBN re-tooled.

This upcoming season
will be my fourth season following the Orioles with Camden Chat, and it’s made the losing so much more bearable. The game day open threads are what makes Camden Chat the best. I really hope this season I can actually meet up with some of you guys.
What’s the deal with SC? I know he got married and thats taken up alot of his time, but I checked Bad Left Hook and he seems to be the main contributor there. Does he like Bad Left Hook more than us?
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
-Jack Handey
SC had a going-away post
He basically decided he could only half-ass things if he was working both sites, and BLH needed him more than we did because there were people here to pick up the slack.
I imagine he’ll be around a bit when the season starts.

Wow
Sorry I missed that. His articles were about as readable as anything on SB Nation.

Yeah it was a bummer
But Bad Left Hook is insanely popular, there was no way he could keep doing both.
2009 was my first year
The game-threads are great, and the Fanposts are amazing. I always look forward to the fanposts and I am thrilled when I see a new one up. They have kept me alive during the off-season (along with my site), the discussions on the fanposts are great regarding what to do at a certain position etc, should we get this player. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to write the fanposts. also to Stacey, zknower, and duck for putting together the Bird Droppings every morning with those great Orioles links!
Hopefully 2010 will be an even better year for CC!
Whoa
I had no idea there were that many people on here! That’s awesome. I guess a lot of floaters that just read through stories/comments?
"He's a gazelle." -Adam Jones on Nolan Reimold.
Also
2009 was my first year on here as well, and I’m insanely glad I found this place. Somehow managed to stumble upon it, and it really is the best place to just chat about our beloved Os. Excellent stories, news, links, commentary… CC rules. Been a bit too busy to be active so far during the offseason, but still. Go Os!

You guys have made the losing so much more bearable....
and hilarious. I like the community on here, and I can’t wait until we start winning.
"Real Orioles don't pout. Real Orioles don't gloat. Real Orioles just win."
I love this site.
It’s weird to say, but it actually makes the losing fun. Being a fan is fun in good times and bad when you have people to talk to about it, and even though I don’t know any of you, I kinda feel like I do.
Of course, I don’t really remember what it’s like to be a fan in good times, so that could be clouding my judgement.
Just because you know how to read, doesn't mean you'll like the book.
great stats
i read more than i write on here usually, but i’m hoping to contribute a lot this year. i’m still in football mode, but this is getting me excited for pitchers and catchers… who report in just 40 days.

I must do better!
Only 10% of my posts contain the f-bomb???? I’m ashamed of myself. This year I fuckin’ know I can hit 15%!
I wonder how many of my comments are in the course of absurdly long arguments…
agreed
i think most of my comments are in the same arguments. well at least the ones that occurred starting in june.
ha ha well that's just the f-bomb
I’m sure if we included a few other choice words in results your % would have shot up.
I'm wondering
who said it the most after you. We all swear quite a bit (and with good reason; we are Orioles fans after all). I wonder who the leaders of the cuss are.
ha ha leaders of the cuss
I bet I’m up there. Sometimes I wonder what my mom might think if she read some of my comments in a game thread.
Anyone else notice duck’s post consistency? 8985 in 2009 and 8983 in 2008.

1. TheNatsBlog.com has asked SC for permission to begin talks with him. Well, with Boras, of course.
2. If he stays, I think we’re looking at 8981 next year.
3. Just sayin’.

Oh, and for z and stacey, who'd love to see more random college football notes interrupting CC threads, here's today's dose, hee-hee:
Looks like Pete’s going to the Seahawks, leaving SC in flotsam-jetsam mode.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/09/sports/ncaafootball/09carroll.html?ref=todayspaper
On the other hand, try and find somebody in Vegas or online who’ll bet on <10 wins next year. Flotsam-jetsam my arse, they’d still get 8 coached by your hamster Skippy.
And whoops, mentioning Seattle just gave me a neuron flash: Jim Zorn’s outta work. Ya think…?

Yeah, it's pretty impressive
Considering you only joined in June.
However, I don’t think any of us is surprised you talked that much. When you first got here you wouldn’t shut up. You’ve calmed down considerably, though :)
Oh I will
I’m getting a laptop in April, so I can now actually particpate in gamehtreads!

9th place
Not too shabby
"Chicks who dig home runs aren’t the ones who appeal to me, I think there’s sexiness in infield hits because they require technique. I’d rather impress the chicks with my technique than with my brute strength. Then, every now and then, just to show I can do that, too, I might flirt a little by hitting one out."-Ichiro
I, unfortunately, did not make the cut
I tend to stay away from game threads, as I usually pay better attention while i’m not chatting, so I missed the cut. I have, however, apparently provided a wealth of empty content for people to read. Go me.
Gamethreads really are where the comments pile up
I’m sure a number of my comments have been simply, “Nicky!!!”, “LUUUUKE”, and “Are you kidding me?”
