Steve Melewski: In pursuit of homers: Should Markakis pull the ball more?
"It's been said and asked before about Nick Markakis by those with the Orioles and some others from outside the organization. Why doesn't he pull the ball more and hit a bunch of homers over that right-field scoreboard?"

BOOOOO Willie Stargell!

I was only 3 1/2 months old, but it still instilled in me a life-long hatred of the Pirates. May they continue to accrue #1 overall picks for the foreseeable future.

Is anybody old enough on here

to remember the ’69 World Series. I always figured losing to the Mets would be a more painful loss than the ’79 series, because the Orioles were such overwhelming favorites in ’69.

I am

Been an O’s fan since ‘60. The real great win was ’66 against the Dodgers. Frank Robinson won the triple crown for the O’s, and Jim Palmer was a real youngster. Palmer beat Sandy Koufax in Sandy’s final game in the World Series. The ’69 series was a tough one. Everyone expected to beat the Mets. NY was tough on us that year. Jets beat the Colts in the Superbowl, Mets beat the Orioles in the World Series and if memory serves me, The Knicks beat the Baltimore Bullets in the NBA playoffs too. At least the Orioles got back to the series soon though, in 1970 and ’71.
1979 was a difficult World Series to swallow. I will always hate “We are family”. Should have beaten the damned Pirates. 1983 did make up for it, though. Beating the Phillies in the World Series.

I still see Omar Moreno in my nightmares

Those obnoxious hats, Dave Parker in right field robbing Eddie Murray of a game winning extra base hit, etc.
I could not, however, feel anything too negative, or for too long, about Willie Stargell because he really did seem like a class act.

I was there for all of them...

…and while ‘69 series sucked, since we were such heavy favorites, and especially after the Super Bowl, the one that still sticks in my craw the most is ’79. I know I’ve said it here before, but to go up three games to one and then lose, that was the absolute worst. ’83 was a great salve, but as far as ’79 goes, if hear that fucking song one more time…

Good thing we're unlikely to see a WS game played on October 16 any time soon.

wedge

I love the reunion in Seattle of Eric Wedge and Milton Bradley. Should be good times in the Emerald City.

The Mariners are my second favorite team

but a distant second. I just hope Wedge has experience in dealing with the mentally ill, ‘cause he’s gonna have his hands full with Bradley. What a nut.

1969

1969 was a great sports year for Baltimore and also a disaster. The Colts lost to the Jets in the Super Bowl. The Orioles lost to the Mets in the WS. The Bullets lost to the Nicks in basketball. The Bullets were not as good as the Nicks, but the Colts and the Orioles were much better than their opponents.

come on rangers

Uh, Kinsler on 3rd with nobody out. Strikeout, strikeout. Come on Rangers. Maybe they don’t know the Yankees can come back from 5 run deficits.
