Saturday Open Thread
Since Stacey is on her way to DC and my internet connection has the reliability of two cans connected by a frayed string at the moment, here's your Open Thread.
Too much garbage in your face? There's plenty of space out in space! BnL StarLiners leaving each day. We'll clean up the Open Thread while you're away.

Can Josh Bell be our 2011 3B?
He wasn’t ready for prime time last season. Strikes out way too much. Didn’t display the vaunted power. Defense was ok. Here’s my question, though. With a new hitting coach now on board, what is Josh Bell doing this off season? He got a “taste” of the big leagues last year and was whelmed. Ok. So get with the new hitting instructor and develope some training techniques to enable him to improve his swings from both sides or is Josh busy at the local Dunkin Donuts? Just an open question while we wait for Wigginton to sign with the Mariners.
Josh + New Hitting Coach
My question exactly. I never thought his swing was horrible, but he was just lost in terms of approach and pitch recognition and the Crow was just useless there. I’ll be shocked if we pick up a decent FA at 3rd, so no way I’m giving up on a kid who went yard on Lee back to back. And as for his weight, whatever…the Giants seem to be doing pretty well with a butterball at 3rd.

Not OD, after the trade deadline
I think Josh has enough to work on in AAA next year, but his resume leads me to believe that it is premature to start looking for an alternative in the long term. I would sign Wigginton to a 1 year deal, hope he hits well in the first half of the season, deal him in July, and promote Bell. Hopefully with better results this time.
Librarians are hiding something
do we know Bell is going to be sent down?
I think that unless it’s announced that a good enough spring training will be enough to get him a spot. It’s not like we have many other capable corner infielders and if he can strike out less then he’ll probably have a decent enough season off the bench.

That's kinda my point.
With a good spring training, and with no one else around, I can see Bell as the 3B for next year. He does need to make more contact and draw some walks, but I’m hoping Presley can help him on that during the off season. Some kind of drills? I have no idea what Bell (or Presley) are doing this off season. Unless the Orioles make a trade, the only improvements at 3B in free agency are Beltre (not likely) or maybe Uribe. So why not work on improving Bell to be the 3B in 2011? I’m not convinced that Wigginton is either an improvement or is returning.
yeah it's really his job to lose
unless Hughes gets called back up and Snyder gets good at third sometime this off season

I don't think he will be is the short answer
but at one point he did show us some power. Against Cliff Lee he had a monster game. It wasn’t just the two home runs, it was the distance and the height that those things got. Just absolute shots. He has tons of raw power, but he definitely needs to work on contact.

Huge kudos to Vuff for posting that link yesterday for the interview with the guys from the '70 WS team
It was a total stroll down memory lane to see those guys and listen to what they had to say. Don’t know how I missed the original presentation, but having watched all of those guys play in their prime, in person, it was like stepping in to H.G. Wells’ Time Machine. Thank you.
Yea but it's chips.
I put French onion dip on potato chips but not on a baked potato. Just sayin.

Well I cut them thicker than usual chips
They were crispy on the outside, but there was still a fairly soft center.
Ok I'll have to take your word on it then
I won’t be trying it anytime soon.

Just got back from the rally
There were a ton of hilarious signs but my favorite: Stop Justin Bieber
Where are my shoelaces?
Best two signs I saw on TV coverage here:
GAY MEXICAN SOCIALISTS ARE RAISING MY TAXES
and
HOLDING A SIGN MAKES ME RIGHT!
