Lincecum, Cain, and Posey
Now that’s how you draft in the first round w/o a top five pick. Although Lincecum and Posey were top five talents who fell for different reasons. Size and durability concerns caused Timmah to drop. The Rays were deciding between Tim Beckham and Posey and chose the former. Whoops. Of course, we took Rowell over Timmah one spot before the Giants. Bigger whoops.

I don't feel like the Rangers have much of a chance tonight
Of course, I haven’t seen the Cliff Lee yet.

After leaving a party last Friday night, I witnessed two people fornicating on the sidewalk in plain view wearing halloween costumes at around 12:30 am. They weren’t hiding behind a trashcan or screwing in some alley. Probably the most bizarre and disgusting thing I’ve ever witnessed.
Your mother.
there was nothing sexy about seeing two people dressed up in weird costumes screw each other.
Besides, it’s Halloween weekend. Little kids may be out trick or treating. That shit ain’t right.
Your mother.
Trick or treating at 12:30am?

I don't know about trick or treating at 12:30 a.m.
But don’t have sex in the middle of the sidewalk!

Just go to

though most people recognize that by now, so you can do what Stacey did and put it through a URL shortener
it offers to shorten the link for you right on the page
very handy

what is basil brown butter?
I guess, how do you make it brown? I’m obviously a very accomplished chef.

by dfa on Nov 1, 2010 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions
brown butter is probably the simplest fancy sounding thing ever
step 1) put butter in pot
step 2) heat butter until brown
the only real trick is that theres a fine line between brown and burnt, so you have to pay really close attention once it starts to get close
Uribe wins batting practice everyday

apparently by hitting the most homeruns.
Also, if he wanted, Ichiro! could hit 50 bombs a year. He chooses not too.

The Giants hitting really hasn't been that great.
Its just awesome when compared to the Rangers. Although the Giants pitching has been fucking awesome. No wonder Texas can’t hit.

that I don’t want Cliff Lee at the price he’s going to get from the Yankees. 4-5 years, $120M, no thank you.
Your mother.
Yeah
Cause the other free agents will be falling head over heels to get here. At some point you have to pay and pay dearly. We have 2-3 years of the young kids left then we have to start spending money or start over again. If we aren’t making money in 2-3 yrs, they aren’t going to spend the money again and again. It’s a pattern everyone seems happy to relive. This whole “we aren’t going to compete so no use overpaying” isn’t going to work at some point. Our farm system isn’t tampas. If you enjoy rooting for a loser then keep riding the “don’t over spend train”. At some point we have to pay for our past transgressions. We may as well do it on people (Crawford, lee) who are worth it and not some second rate clown.

i'll just say that whoever signs cliff lee
that contract is going to a massive burden in year 4 or 5.
Your mother.
Why?
He’s a lhp with superior command. He’s 32 now so you’re getting a left-handed Maddux for 4-5 years basically. To get our fanbase, glory and honor restored I’ll gladly take 5yrs 125m or whatever.

Jeters about ready to get that...
Some point you have to go allin. Look at the pending FA list for next 3 years. It’s barren.
by GeoffreyA on Nov 1, 2010 10:37 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Its a great example though
If a team is going to blowthat much money on garbage, you have to be prepared to go balls deep on guys that are worth it. Tampa is a nice story and all but at this point, it’s pretty obvious they are always missing that one big money player.
by GeoffreyA on Nov 1, 2010 10:48 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Don’t sign a FA. Yeah…great plan.

Well...you don't want either of the two best FAs in a pretty poor FA class
Why would you want the other second-rate guys?
I don’t have much tolerance for stupid. Or cheese on food that doesn’t need it. -duck
I want them but at a sensible price.
Cliff Lee will not be signed at a sensible price. And by sensible I mean his actual production will much greater than his actual earnings.
Your mother.
Wow, did the Giants' radio guy's voice crack.

Kind of fitting that San Fran, Oakland's Bay-area cousin, and an anti-Moneyball team if ever there was one, would win a WS

Renteria
I remember laughing at Sabean’s stupidity when he signed Renteria to a 2 yr/$18M deal, the same year that Adam Dunn got basically the same deal.
I am willing to say he’s won by accident.
Librarians are hiding something
I think he has.
He’s been making stupid moves for the Giants for years, and leaving their fans quite displeased. Aubrey Huff’s been a fantastic player, but I don’t want say Sabean was a genius for that signing. One of their biggest contributors this season has been Buster Posey, and Sabean was criticized for not having him start the season in the Majors.
I don’t want to take anything away from the Giants, but Sabean has really lucked out. He’s still a bad GM, but people will ignore that if the Giants win.
Joe Morgan, on Aubrey Huff's first sacrifice bunt ever coming in the World Series
“He’s a world championship type of guy.”
How does he have a job?

The part of me that tries to be an analytical fan is sickened.
But I have nothing against the players. Congrats Huff, Freak, Cain, and Posey (but he’ll never be Switch-Hitting Jesus).
It's usually said that so-and-so will never have to buy a drink in their town if they win a WS
Timmy will never have to buy chronic in San Fran, I guess.

Sutcliffe said that this team has a great chance of repeating.
Unfortunately for Giants fans, I doubt that.
Yes, the division does suck.
That helped them make the playoffs this year. And once the playoffs start, anything can happen. The Giants also have good young key players in Lincecum, Cain, and Posey. But I just don’t like their chances against other NL teams. The Braves and Phillies are both good teams, and don’t have idiots running them, which means they can make the moves needed to win.
Ruben Amaro may just qualify as an 'idiot'
