Saturday Open Thread
'Tis a Saturday, and all that comes with it. Please enjoy the opportunity to trade witty bon mots with your fellow Orioles followers, and perhaps a recommendation for recreational activity on this fine weekend. Just be nice to each other, because Stacey and I won't be around much. And I swear, if I have to clean this place up when I get home, you won't like the consequences, young man. Or young lady, as the case may be.
Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this Open Thread. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?

last night the bar was very crowded. i was moving in for a fresh rounds and i notice a spot way on the far right opened up. but by the time i made a move over there, a couple people already had bellied up.
why am i telling you this? because my in-bar UZR or whatever fell a little bit after that play. but it’s still, you know, up there. near the top.
So tell me what you think
1. B-rob
2.J.J.
3. Kakes
4. Mark Reynolds
5. AJ
6. Weets
7. Luke
8. Riemold
9. Pie
andddd Hopefully……Adam Laroache will be in this lineup! and it will just make us wayyyy stronger. Somebody call up andy and let him know.
JJ in the 2 hole would be a good spot! if he bats .270 with 30 doubles and 20 hrs, thats good production in front of kakes. And what do yall think about resigning izzy? i hate it. But i dont pull the strings so whatever. GO O’S
I'd move Luke to 5 and knock jones and wieters
Down a spot.

Y'know I always though AJ
could be a really dangerous hitter batting second. He’d be getting alot of fastballs behind B-Rob, and let’s face it, what my eyes tell me is that he needs to see alot of fastballs to be a good hitter at this point. I would definitely do it on days that Nick gets off.

That would make it all the more sad.

how important is OBP in the 2-hole?
Because AJ obviously doesn’t have good on-base skills like B-Rob or Markakis.
it's important
generally you want high OBP / low SLG guys near the top of the order, high SLG guys in the middle, and low OBP guys at the bottom. so Jones doesn’t really make sense as a #2 hitter because he has a low OBP but decent power. (the reason you don’t want power at the very top of the order is because they’ll generally be hitting with fewer men on base, since they’re going after your worst hitters).
I think Markakis is our best option. obviously he has power, but he also has the highest OBP on the team, and he’s performed well in the past as a #2 hitter. the problem is, who bats 3rd then?
I guess Jones wouldn't be awful in the 3-hole
What would be nice is if Reimold was able to bounce back, he had a good walk rate his rookie year, and even showed he could swipe a bag when needed. Then you could leave Markakis in the 3-hole (since there’s really no one better).
Luke, except he's a lefty.
He actually had a higher BB% than Nick

Luke seems like a good fit for us at cleanup
But maybe that’s just me.
He'd be good there too
Brob
Nick
Reynolds
Luke
LaRoche/1B
Jones
Reimold
Hardy
Wieters

No way MR bats 4th.
Not gonna happen.

Because it's feast or famine
HR, BB, or K. Kinda risky in the cleanup spot, at least in my opinion it is.

Isn't that pretty much exactly what Adam Dunn's game is, as well?
I want my #4 hitter to BB or HR, and I’d rather have Ks than DPs.

I like yours, but here's my thinking.
Even though Markakis is probably an ideal 2 hitter, he has the capability to drive in so many runs, I love him at 3. I’d go
1. 2B Roberts
2. SS Hardy
3. RF Markakis
4. 3B Reynolds
5. DH Scott
6. 1B LaRoche
7. CF Jones
8. C Wieters
9. LF Reimold/Pie (depending on LHP/RHP matchup, rest, performance etc.)
I think LaRoche is all but a done deal. No real reason, just my gut feeling. I know some people hate Reynolds at 4, but really, what other options are there? I think Jones/Hardy could flip flop at 2/7 but Buck likes a set lineup, and I think JJ will be at 2 for now. I also hope Wieters forces his way higher in the lineup sooner rather than later.
i like that lineup as well
getting laroche would be SWEEET

No, I'm with you on Larcoche
I too feel like that’s just pretty much done. Looking forward to adding an OPS+ over 100 to the club this season.

I wouldn't bat J.J. second just yet
We know he’s an offensive upgrade over Izturis but not much else. Let him earn getting that many ab’s in the second spot.
"Tragedy is what happens to me. Comedy is what happens to you." -Mel Brooks
no speed
After watching Hardy in my beautiful Milwaukee for awhile, I can tell yout his — he’s got AWFUL speed. I don’t think I like him the #2 spot.
He also won’t play 162 games, so best to have another plan.
If Jones gets back to the way he hit a couple years ago, would he be ok at #2?

ok... is there a history of andy actually doing this, otherwise the joke seems a bit random.
Spewing negativity.
No history.
It’s just a joke at how Andy could fuck with other gms because no one wants to come to Baltimore. If nobody wants to come play for you you might as well have some fun with it.

seems to me it’d be the only way for a have-not GM to get the better of a have GM. that’s the charm of it to me. we may not have the better team or upper hand, but we can still mess with you.

Hmmm...idealy Id have MR bat 5th, I dont like him at cleanup either
So, Luke is probably (sorry Stacey almost wrote prolly :p ) a better fit for what we have
1. B-Rob ( crosses fingers for a healthy season)
2. Markakis
3. AJ ( I know he doesnt fit well here for now, but if he cut down all his chasing Id love to have him hit 3rd)
4. Luke (best option for now) at 1B for now, scary yes
5. Mark Reynolds
6. Matt Wieters
7. JJ Hardy ( He’ll have a comeback year im sure of it)
8. Reimold at DH for now
9. Pie in LF
this would change if we add LaRoche or Lee.
since this is the lineup thread
1. Brian Roberts, S, 2b
2. JJ Hardy, R, SS
3. Nick Markakis, L, LF
4. Mark Reynolds, R, 3b
5. Luke Scott, L, RF/DH
6. Adam Laroche, R, 1b
7. Adam Jones, R, CF
8. Matt Wieters, S, C
9. Nolan Reimold, R, RF/DH
Alternate:
1. Brian Roberts, S, 2b
2. Nick Markakis, L, Lf
3. Adam Jones, R, CF
4. Luke Scott, L, RF/DH
5. Mark Reynolds, R, 3b
6. Adam Laroche, L, 1b
7. Matt Wieters, S, C
8. Felix Pie, L, RF/DH
9. JJ Hardy, R, SS
Poss. Alt.: Derrek Lee, R, 1b
I'd switch AJ and Matt in the 1st one
Also, Nick plays RF, not LF.
"things like locig and prrofreading are actually valued here" - zknower
Reimold (he’s sprinting full out in Brady workouts)
Izzy (the guy is being groomed for MANAGEMENT)
Memlo’s retired 6 jersey
Boog
Nicky
Jones
Pie
and we need a time machine to put circa 05-09 Robble at 8th
Weet
my idea
1. Roberts 2B
2. Markakis RF
3. Lee/LaRoche 1B
4. Reynolds 3B
5. Scott DH/LF
6. Jones CF
7. Wieters C
8. Pie LF
9. JJ Hardy SS

We can come up with any batting order we want...
But if the Kiddie Corps doesn’t deliver, it will be all for naught. They HAVE to deliver.
worst lineup ever
1. Corey Patterson
2. Julio Lugo
3. Ty Wigginton
4. Luke Scott in a slump
5. Garrett Atkins
6. free-swingin Adam Jones
7. defense-minded Matt Wieters
8. 09 Nolan Reimold at DH
9. Cesar Izturis
09 Reimold would be good.
2010 Reimold sucked.

is there a bad part?
I can’t believe this movie was pooh poohed when it was released.
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever
Put MR 3rd
I like the lineups they all seem to have their goods and bads. But with MRs Ks let him hit in the 3 hole he doesnt hit the ball on the ground so if 1 or 2 get on he would rarely end the inning and maybe even a sac fly. If he does K you have Luke hitting 4 most likely
Every time I see "MR"
my mind is trying say Matt Rieters.
