Erbe's new delivery paying dividends | MLB.com: News
When Brandon Erbe's Minor League career started to stall, the former top-rated Orioles prospect took it in stride, agreeing to abandon the delivery that made him a third-round Draft pick in favor of a more fluid approach. -duck

One is the loneliest number - MASNsports.com
Plan B? We don't need no stinkin' Plan B! Diamond Dave says while Robert Andino is the official backup at second base, he has no idea who would bat lead-off if Brian Roberts becomes unavailable. No worries, since 32-year-old second baseman play 162 games a year every year, right? -duck

The Schmuck Stops Here: Orioles: Bergesen ready for next step

Orioles' Scott not a fan of MLB's gun ban - baltimoresun.com
Surprise, surprise. Luke Scott doesn't like the new gun ban by MLB. Oh, he'll follow it, but he's not a fan. Trust me, Luke, when Diamond Dave sends you on your sixth failed hit-and-run of the season in mid-June, you'll be glad you didn't have that Glock nearby. -duck

as am i

although i’m a bit worried that canada is going to come out really hot to avenge the last loss. they’ll have the entire universe (or at least whatever universe is in vancouver) on their side.

Yea

Im not so sure we
ll win this time, but it should be exciting either way. At least we get silver even if we lose.

If we win, I hope afterwards our guys roll around on the ice swilling beer. COOL!

And make it Molson’s…

Hey, Sall couldn't see the beer for the champagne!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/27/AR2010022703315.html?hpid=topnews

“The IOC, confronted in Vancouver with a couple of lethal issues and fresh human rights concerns at the next Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, instead reserved some of its toughest words for this late-breaking scandal: the drinking of champagne by women in public.

The IOC’s treatment of the Canadian women’s hockey team as scandalous for being photographed swilling from bottles of bubbly after winning a gold medal was typical of the organization’s recent fecklessness. Gilbert Felli, the IOC’s executive director for the Olympic Games, a man apparently devoid of humor except for the jokes he perpetrates unwittingly, said, it was “not what we want to see.” He intoned, presumably between bites of scallops, “I don’t think it’s a good promotion of sport values,” and promised, “We will investigate what happened.”

"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." Churchill,1942-- a rebuilding year.

by Titov on Feb 28, 2010 12:52 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah.

“Sports values” doesn’t include any sort of celebration when you win, apparantly. This is just stupid, somebody show the IOC video of what happens when a baseball team wins a playoff series.

well its more of the issue of underage drinking

a fair number of them were under BC’s legal drinking age, which is why i think this became a larger deal.

by twistedlogic on Feb 28, 2010 9:45 AM EST up reply actions

And "sports values"

apparently include sexism by the IOC. Between this and the banning of women’s ski jumping, the IOC is not exactly modeling exemplary behavior.

2B backup ?

With Roberts suffering from back issues, the Orioles need to think seriously about a backup. Andino can play 2B just fine, I’m sure, but I wouldn’t want him batting leadoff. Wigginton enjoys playing 2B, but no one else wants to watch him there … and he isn’t a leadoff hitter either. If it’s only for a game or two, I guess it doesn’t matter much, but if Roberts had to go on the DL, there could be a problem. Perhaps Justin Turner is the answer, in that scenario. He play a decent 2B and (at least at AAA) can handle the bat some. All of this points out a weak section of the Orioles organization: Middle infielders. There really isn’t a whole lot to choose from in the upper minors.

by fuddnelson on Feb 27, 2010 11:43 AM EST reply actions

Most teams would be no better off

Last season the Red Sox used Nick Green as their starting shortstop for half the season. When the Rays lost Iwamura, they had to turn to an unproven utility guy who turned out to be Ben Zobrist.

The O’s certainly need more middle infield depth, but the Andino/Wiggy/Turner three headed monster is about par for the course.

Robothal's article on realignment

I can’t imagine that there will ever be realignment. What are the odds this happens around the next CBA? 2%?

Oh no!

Now if terrorists take over Camden Yards and hold the team hostage in the locker room, Luke Scott won’t have his gat to be able to save us all!! We’re doomed!!!

I'd rather Luke

have a gun rather than some kid who has never been around a gun in his life until he gets a little money in his pocket and decides he needs to buy six of them. At least Luke has been through the proper channels to legally carry a firearm.

That could be.

I know I still feel more comfortable when these guys go through the proper channels and have a little respect for firearms. Instead of, you know, bringing their six guns into the locker room and telling their teammate to pick one.

of terrorists in OPACY. Just wait til PHN shows up this year. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t mind seeing Luke go “Last Boy Scout” on some of those idiots.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind that at all

Not only would we have knocked off a bunch of pink hatters, but Luke would be arrested. I’m pretty sure that is O’sFan21’s best of all possible worlds.

by daveh873 on Feb 27, 2010 6:26 PM EST up reply actions

I always imagined

Luke would have the type of work ethic that O’s21fan has or had or endorses. Maybe not. I really don’t remember any writing of Luke’s offseason work.

looks like he works pretty hard. No issues with his workout regimen – just with his desire to carry handguns into the stadium.

why the hell hasn’t he done that any of the last few years when he’s had his gat with him??? Then I’d probably feel differently.
