TWO WEEKS TO PITCHERS AND CATCHERS!
Throwing Strikes With Chris Tillman
Tillman answered questions for baysox.com, lots of interesting stuff. He looks up to Jeremy Guthrie because he's "not too old," he made fun of Brian Matusz for being so excited about his bobblehead, and actual stuff about baseball too. -Stacey

Funny quote from Caleb Joseph
over on Roch’s blog:
If I had my way, I would move in with [Brian Roberts] right now and spend every offseason with him
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
haha awesome
I know how he feels :)

actually it looks like that quote is about Brian Matusz
I stayed with Brian Matusz, friend and teammate, and enjoyed the lifestyle of a ‘big leaguer’ for a few weeks. He was very gracious to invite me to stay with him and to work out with him. Fans will be impressed as they discover how incredible Brian is. It’s not by chance that Brian is such a nice person — his entire family is quite impressive.
If I had my way, I would move in with him right now and spend every offseason with him. We think alike — his attitude is identical to mine. Without a doubt, hands down, my favorite professional teammate so far.

I just love those boys.

Wait
how does that additional info make it seem like he’s talking about Matusz? Isn’t that Roberts in that picture too?
you, apparently.

B-Rob
is rockin’ the douchebag look in that shot. That three guys are wearing basketball shorts and no socks is bad enough, but c’mon, Brian. The reverse baseball cap? Helloooo, 1990!

Weaver Statue
Nothing against Cal, but I would rather have a statue of the Earl of Baltimore at the Yard. He’s the epitomy of the Orioles’ winning ways.
And I wish they had put the Brooks Robinson statue on stadium grounds.
Same with the Cal statue
There was one at the old Ripken museum. I think it’s in Aberdeen now. Sure would have been nice if Camden got one before the Ironbirds.
I'm glad Sarfate cleared waivers
I know, I know. He sucked last year. He has never lived up to the …… wait for it ….. potential. And he may be a AAAA pitcher. But it’s good to have an extra relief pitcher in Norfolk. Especially if his injury woes are behind him. He does throw hard.
I saw they might be interested in him
nothing more.

Can’t wait to see the total amount.. If he stays healthy, Seattle’s rotation is pretty decent.

More like
Seattle’s rotation is better than anybody else’s.

Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
well, yeah but it’s seattle… so that takes away from it right?

Actually
in that ballpark they’re probably better than they look on paper.
Still, I think Seattle will be hard pressed to beat out the Angels and the Rangers. That should be an interesting division to watch this year.
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
Now THAT 1-2-3
could rip up the Yankees in a short series. I hate them getting Bedard, but if he returns anywhere near to form, they could be mighty dangerous come October.
Rowland-Smith and interchangable #5 starter i'm guessing
R-S is pretty good. I have no idea who gets the #5 spot though. Ian Snell i’d imagine.
Yeah, well Bedard is a risk still.. A pretty big risk.. so they better have a solid interchangeable #5-#6 starters.

No, wait
he got traded, didn’t he?
Man, I can’t remember these things.

yeah he did.. I don’t know where though.

I'd rather he been in Seattle
than sign a deal with anyone not the O’s in the AL East.

interesting....
from one of those links (HeraldNet.com):
Word of that makes me go “Hmmmmmm” because just last night I spoke with a source familiar with the labrum surgery Bedard had last Aug. 14 on his left (throwing) shoulder. While there have been reports that Bedard may not be pitching again until July, this person believes Bedard’s rehab has gone very well and that a comeback in May is possible.
Bedard has progressed so well in his throwing program that he’ll be coming to Arizona soon to continue it. One reason is that the place he’s throwing at his home in Canada is only 70 feet long, and he needs to start stretching it out. So Bedard will continue his work in Arizona under the same personal trainer who helped extend Randy Johnson’s career with the Diamondbacks.

Well we can step back a little from this rumor
Bedard on Mariners: ’I’d love to be back!’
Mutual interest, but no firm offer (I also question any quote from Bedard thats both positive and ends in an exclamation point)
I'm fairly certain
that Erik Bedard has never ended any sentence with an exclamation point.

Ok so I just read this article
The commenters are tools.
“Put me down as 3B”…wtf? Does this guy have any pride or competitive streak at all? I don’t think that we could ever rely on Bedard to handle a pressure packed (ie. playoff game start) situation.
All great athletes have an oversized ego and competitive streak…the fact that he is willing to just submit to essentially being the #4 pitcher on a staff strikes at the main question about Bedard. Is he now, or will he ever be, mentally tough enough?
He was complimenting the pitching staff, dumbass.
Even if he’s just hedging his bets about being ready, he should be saying things like, “when I’m healthy, Ill be able to compete with Felix and Lee for the #1 spot.” 3B??? That’s like saying “I could be the utility infielder” or “I’m ready to pinch hit when they need me.”
Come back to Baltimore, Erik! The fans here understand you!

interesting thought..
what do you guys think about trading izturis at break. moving tejada to ss, and bringing bell up. and maybe blake davis when tejada is ready to go. i like izzy but i just dont fell like he contributes anything other than defense…i would like at least 50 rbis from our ss..
by Parkinglotninja on Feb 4, 2010 11:24 AM EST reply actions
well..
I don’t think Tejada would do that… I read somewhere that he didn’t sign with the rockies because he was apprehensive about switching between the two positions.
What up?
by snakethejake on Feb 4, 2010 11:25 AM EST up reply actions
SO many problems
1) It would be stupid to jerk Tejada around like that, and his production would almost certainly dip.
2) As great as Izzy is on the defense, I don’t think any contenders are going to be in the market for a defensive shortstop for the big play-off run. And even if they were, I’m not sure we’d get anything more than a C or B prospect.
3) Blake Davis is not the answer. He’s filler.
4) Defense counts, too.
5) No guarantee that Bell would be ready at mid-season.
6) Without any long-term shortstops in the system (we’re stretching to say Pedro Florimon or Mychal Givens at this point), Izturis is probably going to stick around for a while. No sense in trading him away (unless he inexplicably is batting second more than never).
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
you may be right..
after looking at blakes stats hes not so much an answer to the issue..he is getting older though…were going to need someone soon..
by Parkinglotninja on Feb 4, 2010 11:34 AM EST up reply actions
The Orioles need a shortstop in the system
Hopefully they can draft a good one out of college that could be ready in a year or two. Maybe that first round pick? I think it is the #3 pick in the draft. Any college SS worth that kind of draft status?
Not really
early word is that the O’s are probably looking at either a prep pitcher (Taillon) or a college pitcher (Ranaudo). It’s still waaay early, but what I heard is that it just isn’t that strong of a class for bats at the moment.
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
Unless Harper falls
I could see the Nats passing after having to sign Strasburg last year, and the Pirates are already making excuses for why they wont take him
I can't see the Nats not taking him.

I think its a long shot
But its the only way, based on what i’ve read so far about the draft pool, that I can see us not taking a pitcher at 3.
+1
I would rather have a top prospect that is blocked over a decent prospect at a position of need.

ugh. i never want to watch tejada play shortstop for the O's again.

Personally, I believe that Cabrera is a candidate for a breakout season in 2006, as long as he remains healthy. What do you guys think?
Hehe.
And I still throw up whenever I hear the word change.
Vizzini: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates?
Man in Black: Yes.

I actually started to read the singles thing.
The first chick on it lists Khaki pants as a turnoff. I stopped reading after that. If these are the best singles in Baltimore that they could come up with, then I should just give up now. Or move.

The heels on the O's groundkeeper were ridiculous
Ladies, how would you walk in those things? They were 10% of her natural height!

I'm guessing the head groundskeeper doesn't actually ever have to go on the field.
I’m pretty sure they’d sink right in, and she’d fall over.

If I were single
i’d go straight for the O’s groundskeeper. She’s not too much older than me, she’s gotta make a decent living, and she is at every O’s game at Camden. Sign me up. Hell, i’d move to Maryland for that.

and unlike mr. knower up there, I think Tommy Boy is a work of cinematic genius on par with classics like Black Sheep and Beverly Hills Ninja

Os sign Joel Guzman to a minor league deal
Who is Joel Guzman and what position does it play?
MLBTR says, " In 108 games with the Nationals’ Double-A affiliate last season, Guzman hit .281/.352/.447 with 12 HRs."
in looking at his minor league stats, it looks like he fell off a cliff once reaching AAA hitting. He looked really promising at one point. Tore up AA as a 19 and 20 year old.
