GameThread: Orioles @ Pirates, 7:05 p.m.

I know that wins and losses don't matter in Spring Training but I would really like to see a win tonight. I mean, you know. Winning is more fun than losing, even when it's not necessarily the goal of a spring training game.

Brad Bergesen makes his spring debut tonight, finally fully recovered from his unfortunate commercial filming mishap. He'll be on the first start schedule of 2 innings/30 pitches and I'm happy to see him. With the uncertainty around Brian Bob and Reimold it's nice to have him healthy and ready to go.  Bergy's opponent on the mound for the Pirates will be Zach Duke (again).

Tonight's game is being broadcast on MLB Network and MLB.tv. I've been in a fight with Comcast since Sunday because MLB Network isn't showing up as authorized on my TV. I keep talking to them, they keep telling me that they've fixed it, and it keeps not being there. I guess I'll give it one more go and hopefully I'll have figured it out by the time the game starts.

Here are your lineups courtesy of Jen Langosch. Looky who's getting another start at 1B:

Orioles Pirates
Felix Pie - LF Andrew McCutchen - CF
Cesar Izturis - SS Bobby Crosby - SS
Adam Jones - CF Garrett Jones - DH
Miguel Tejada - 3B Ryan Doumit - C
Matt Wieters - C Ryan Church - RF
Luke Scott - 1B Brandon Moss - LF
Ty Wigginton - DH Pedro Alvarez - 3B
Lou Montanez - RF Steve Pearce - 1B
Justin Turner - 2B Ramon Vazquez - 2B

So what (if anything) are we looking for from 3E1N tonight?

I’ll take no injuries and minimal walks. His control and sinker are the only two things keeping him from being horrible (luckily they make him pretty serviceable), and I’m worried about the layoff and injuries affecting that stuff.

That said, apart from injuries, I’m not going to react in either direction based on tonight’s outing. Glad to see the Berger Cookie back.

I just want him to be healthy

it’ll suck if he gets knocked around but I won’t worry about it yet.

Of course, my grandmother and my grandfather’s sister were college roommates and that’s how they met, so… not that weird to me!

Well

a) i’m only 23, my friends arent supposed to be getting engaged yet.
b) We made fun of my other roommate so much when we found out they were going to the same college, claiming how much the first rooomate was going to sleep with his sister, and now their engaged.

Looking at their lineup, im not sure they have a single position player that I'd want

McCutchen’s pretty good, but i’m not sure we could work him in any way that would make us better. Doumit is decent too, but i dont even need to explain the situation there.

I think it's consideration

What will come out of it, who knows, but I think they probably realize that the more positions Luke proves he can play the better he is for the O’s and the better his trade value. That’s why it never made sense when they were like, "He’s the DH. That’s it. No 1B. It’s also possibly a precaution regarding Nolan’s Achilles. I definitely agree that he could be an effective reliever.

I’m less sure about starting, as much as I’d love for him to turn it around. From what I recall, he was solid going through lineups the first time, and then got shellacked. Makes me think he’d be an excellent 2-inning guy.

by Vuff on Mar 10, 2010 8:26 PM EST up reply actions

I mean he's gotta prove a lot of people wrong for a while

before he’ll get another shot at starting, but just looking at his stuff there’s no reason he can’t be a decent back of the rotation starter. He throws hard and has 3 pitches that he can throw for strikes. He has the ingredients – he just needs to put it together. Lots of pitchers don’t ever do it, but who knows.

But I think Andy LaRoche just told me that a 20 game plan in Pittsburgh starts at $149? Can that possibly be true?

I think next year I might get a ticket package for the Orioles

I always wanted to start supporting them once they started showing me something. I know there’s no real need for it now, but I want to get in on the ground floor for access to playoff tickets :)

is that something that people call him or did someone here just start referring to him as that? I was always under the impression that people just called him that, but I said his name to someone and he said, “Who?” and I said Hendrickson and he was like, “Oh you have a little pet name for him?
