by OsandRoyals on Mar 11, 2010 10:55 AM EST up reply actions

Anyway

Was I the only one not impressed by Camden Crazie’s analysis of second base options?

Trade for a decent shortstop and move Izzie to second? Wouldn’t we want to change the decent ss over to second and utilize the guy with the best defense at ss?
Wiggy’s numbers at second aren’t horrible because he hasn’t played there for enough time to be accurate. Hence you have sample size issues.

I’d guess we could find a fair number of minor league players who would be easily attainable, we could try getting some comeback players like Mark Grudzielanek to play for however long roberts is out

by OsandRoyals on Mar 11, 2010 11:09 AM EST reply actions

I think his argument is there aren't any 2B worth going after

how sound it is, who knows. And I guess it would depend on the SS we could get.

Scott Moore ???????

I occasionally see his name mentioned, but no one seems to want to answer the question of Moore playing 2B. He would seem like a good answer to me if he can play the pivot. Does anyone have an answer? What are the plans for Moore? From what I can remember, he can hit pretty well and fields ok (although mostly 3B).

by fuddnelson on Mar 11, 2010 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

Moore

Hasn’t really done much of anything from the plate at AAA. So he is forgoten for that reason.

by Reddrummer9187 on Mar 11, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

It isn't like there is mystery about Wiggy's 2b prowess

The sample sizes are small because he is a crap keystone. He’s not a good third baseman or for that matter, an above average first baseman. He’s not hiding his skills at second from anyone.

I really fail to see how this is an issue. If Roberts is going to miss significant time, well, our slim as hell chances of the playoffs get slimmer. But there is no sense in making a deal that will cost us something of value to have someone slightly better than Andino/Turner/Wiggy at 2b this season.

This entire issue actually makes me pretty crazy. Andino is the backup middle infielder. That means he’s the starter if Roberts or Izturis go down. If the Orioles didn’t feel he was good enough to start in case of injury to one of them, then why the hell did they wait until now to deal with it? Why weren’t the Orioles after Felipe Lopez a couple weeks ago when no one wanted him? Where were we when the Nats got Adam Kennedy for less than $2m? The idea that we’re going to make a trade the moment after the free agent market dried up for essentially a replacement-level player is absolutely obscene, particularly since we have no real hope of contention in 2010 in any case.

My only source of solace at this point is that MacPhail was blowing smoke. Because otherwise, we’re fucking crazy.

like a year or so at least before I can even think to watch any of the Tonight Show at all. It’s just too painful.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

T-Shirts

Some paperwork etc. stuff to be worked out. I would expect the first ones will be available late next week sometime, which will give folks a chance to get them for opening day.

In terms of designs, the other poll tells us this:

  • 80% of you will seriously consider getting a shirt
  • of those that are thinking of getting a shirt, the numbers are pretty evenly split between simpler/cheaper design, vs. slightly pricier/more complex design

As I mentioned before, the prices will be driven by number of colors and whether the design is front/back or not. We’ll have some options in both categories to keep everybody happy. I’ll start with the most popular ideas and work my way through. Stay tuned!

for the record, i’d like it if we could get a decent color option, but I could care less about a back design. I generally dont like shirts with a design on the back anyway, but I def. don’t do white tees.

Yeah, it’s because the line up is designed for getting people ABs rather than winning games. If 4 number 8 hitters need work then that takes precedence over winning.
