The Orioles need middle infielders
It seems like the Rangers always have first basemen in their pipeline and the Angels always have middle infielders. The Orioles seem to have an over abundance of pitchers in the minors. Not that it’s a bad thing to have lots of pitching; and as someone always wants to point out, you can always trade pitching for other needs. BUT Izturis is not exactly Hanley Ramirez with a bat in his hands and Roberts’ cranky back points out a weakness in our system (and “the plan”). The Orioles do not seem to have any real star major league middle infielders in their system. Givens is a project that may pan out, and Hoes could become something, but perhaps it is time to draft a really good college middle infielder this year? The Orioles are going to need them.
Drafting is about BPA
I think everyone would love it if the BPA was a middle infielder or a power 1B but you take the best talent regardless of position. I would rather have an all-star player at any position over a solid player at a position of my choice. If you dont follow BPA then eventually talent will run thin.

Quite honestly
you have to take the player you think has the best chance of making it to the majors and producing when they get there. Izturis isnt Hanley, but who is? Look around the AL. There is a huge black hole of talent at the position. Hell, Jeter is probably still the best we’ve got and he’s been around since, what, ’96? The point is, if you reach on some college SS instead of taking the best available player, you usually miss out on a nice prospect and get left with a lifetime AAA player. It can work out, but you have to play the percentages.
Still with this????
Enough already. You draft the best fuckin’ player available every fuckin’ time your slot comes up. It’s not that fuckin’ hard.
Well, O'sFan21 is in shape for OD...

millwood
can we trade him for some bullets for one of luke’s guns? or is that asking to much at 1st i liked the trade , because of the inning he would eat but i would rather have chris rays 2 bad inning every now and then instead of millwoods 4 bad inning every 5 days
Repeat after me
1) It’s Spring Training. These games are meaningless. At least wait until he starts sucking in April to criticize his performance.
2) There is an “s” at the end of “innings”.
3) I was going to get into the lack of capitalization and punctuation, but instead I’m going to so silently weep in a corner.

Now we just have to convince him that there’s no need to ration punctuation. There’s plenty to go around!

In this context, theres a difference between missing the occasional punctuation mark and omitting them almost entirely
No one’s gonna go all grammar nazi on comments, but you should at least write them to a level where no one struggles to understand what youre saying.

Looks like the Yankees are bringing their A team
no Posada, Granderson, or starting pitchers though (Aceves is going for them).
Will Dave counter with his patented lowest-possible OBP in the Grapefruit League Izturis-Andino lineup?
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
Lineups, from Roch:
Felix Pie LF
Miguel Tejada 3B
Nick Markakis RF
Matt Wieters C
Adam Jones CF
Luke Scott DH
Garrett Atkins 1B
Ty Wigginton 2B
Cesar Izturis SS
Brad Bergesen RHP
Derek Jeter SS
Nick Johnson DH
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Marcus Thames LF
Randy Winn CF
Francisco Cervelli C
Alfredo Aceves RHP
He’s getting better, I guess? Though Tejada in the two-hole makes me feel ill.
Weaver's Fourth Law: Your most precious possessions on offense are your twenty-seven outs.
Agreed re:Miggi
But if this was the OD lineup, I guess I couldn’t complain too loudly. It’s A LOT closer to right than the usual Izturis-Jones-Tejada business.
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
Miggi's gotta hit sooner or later, right?

true...
but not in the most important position in the lineup. Put Nick or Jones or Reimold or Wieters number 2, not Captain GIDP.

How the fuck does Tejada still have community service to do???
100 hours??? That’s nothing. He’s a fucking professional athlete – he’s got time and access to some of the most interesting community service opportunities available. It’s really not that hard. Brian Roberts probably does 100 hours of community service every 4-5 months. This is shit he should be doing anyway.
Bringin' the A game today, I see....
I say we let O’sFan21 go at least 6 innings today.
"The moment you stop thinking you're the best, it's time for you to get out the game." -'King' Mo Lawal
Or 100 F-bombs, whichever comes first?

We're playing the yankees
100 might not get him out of the first. He really needs to learn to curse to contact to get deeper into games.

I'm definitely feelin' it right now.
Although I was thinking about trying to pitch a little bit this summer, but I threw the other day and man it was not pretty. My 6 innings might be limited to f-bombs as opposed to fastballs and changeups from now on.
Trying to teach teh daughter a SB changeup now
Wow, it wasn’t pretty last night.
"The moment you stop thinking you're the best, it's time for you to get out the game." -'King' Mo Lawal
How do you throw one of those?
Is it at all similar to the baseball grip or completely different? It took me about 7 years and a torn ligament (that prevented me from throwing curve balls and sliders) to actually learn how to throw a good changeup.
Four different variations

I tried to get her to use the Flip changeup – it’s definitely a work in progress.
"The moment you stop thinking you're the best, it's time for you to get out the game." -'King' Mo Lawal
Wow
they want a 20 MPH gap huh? 8-12 in baseball is pretty solid usually depending on the movement and deception.
That “stiff wrist” technique is pretty similar to the changeup I was taught as a kid. Crazy pitching coach told us to pretend we were petting a horse’s nose on the way down.
The speed diff in FB/CU in SB is insane
I played in a faculty vs varsity game 2 years ago.
I got 2 fastballs I heard, didn’t see, then a changeup so slow I had swung and was crossing the plate to go to the dugout before the ball got to the catcher. Yeah, 20 mph difference sounds about right.
"The moment you stop thinking you're the best, it's time for you to get out the game." -'King' Mo Lawal
They are so damn close to you - that's the problem.
I always enjoy watching Jenny Finch dominate dudes (except for Bonds who found it so easy that it was laughable).
Less than 35 feet away
Another link: http://www.fast-pitch.com/change-up.html
When a HS pitcher strides correctly, she’s about 33 feet away from the batter when she lets go of the ball.
Although the mound is going to 43 feet next year from the current 40 feet.

Roberts
In that “guess the higher number” contest, I assumed Roberts will be spending time on the DL and any production numbers associated with him will decline. If the guy’s back is bad off, let it heal. The O’s aren’t doing squat in teh standings this year anyhow. It’s a tough call, but I just keep thinking of Mattingly tailing off real quick with back problems.
Heard Roberts on Scott Garceau show yesterday
Liked the attitude.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
he certainly sounded reassuring

Weaver's Fourth Law: Your most precious possessions on offense are your twenty-seven outs.
From Roch:
Former Orioles Eddie Murray, Brady Anderson, Mike Boddicker and Ben McDonald will join the MASN broadcast booth for select games this season. They’lll assist with the color commentary on a rotating basis.
Anderson will provide television and radio analysis, and appear on the pre- and post-game shows on April 23-25 in Boston.

Two things.
1. Why is Miggi a dumbass?
2. Roberts will either be an announcer or a PR guy when he retires, as he can talk his way through just about anything. And for that reason, I don’t believe him when he says he will be healthy enough to play soon.
my bet on real madrid is looking good
why i didnt bet on the spread is beyond me. i knew they were going to crush getafe.
