What sorts of options could there possibly be?
They must really not like Justin Turner.
Bedard says he doesn't care and thinks goals are pointless.
Eh, it's MacPhail.
He’s probably just keeping his options open.

Granted, I guess your point is that there isn't much of anything out there, but...
I just mean that he likes to say nothing whenever possible.

True
but look at Turner’s career minor league numbers. The guy should probably be the first Plan B, as opposed to signing Ryan Freel again or trading Matt Albers for like Mike Fontenot (and you just KNOW Mike Fontenot is at the top of Andy’s list).

Ha, yeah, the more Cubs the merrier.
But yes, I’d rather see Turner get a shot, too, and I’d like to think that’s what happens. He’s shown he can at least get on base in the minors, even if the power department leaves a bit to be desired… how’s his glove supposed to be for 2B?

that makes my stomach hurt

Ghiroli is mistaken.

He throws left-handed
It would be near impossible for him to play 2nd.

Even with Millwood mentoring him???

I’m a lefty and I played second for a year in HS. It’s not too hard. Even had a couple of games at third. Only spot a lefty really can’t play is SS. Third was hard though.

No way!
A lefty making the turn at 2nd on a double play??? I’ve seen some crazy shit in my day (like a lefty catcher), but lefty at 2B might take the cake. SS and 3rd seem like less of an issue – it’s the double play turn at 2nd that makes it so hard. You would have to turn so far – either away from the runner so you wouldn’t be able to dodge his slide or into the runner also exposing yourself – to make the throw to first.
I wasn’t saying it was a good idea. Just that it’s been done before. And trust me SS is much more difficult than 2nd as a lefty. The double play turn is easier at short but nothing else.

Mattingly did it for one game in 1983.
Before that, I’m unable to find a record of anyone doing it in the majors since 1916. Which kind of stretches the “it’s been done before” as far as it can go.

what....are you googling "lefties at SS?"

Josef Goebbels is said to have had quite an arm.
OK, actually not, dude wore a leg brace for a deformed right leg. Amazing how many Nazis who precahed the superiority of the Aryan race had physical disabilities of their own of some sort.

It's been done before
at some horrible (sorry, but to have a lefty at 2nd it must have been horrible) high school. Not exactly the major leagues.
Just for added input
in MLB the Show for PS3 it wont even let you create a lefty 2nd baseman or SS. It defaults to righty and doesnt give you the option to change it.

I’m thinking maybe move Miggy to second, Atkins to third, and give Aubrey a shot at first. There also is always Wiggington. Eh, on second thought let’s give Turner a chance.

I'm thinking.....
I want MIggi at least 100 feet away from where a second baseman plays.

It's all your fault.
This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t gotten your hopes up.
