The Orioles still aren't sure if Felix Pie will need to go on the disabled list, though they have a plan in place if he does. Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Lou Montanez is on his way to the West Coast to join the club and he'll be ready if Pie needs to go on the DL.
I think you all know what you need to do with this information.

How about
we let Reimold and Luke split time between LF and DH and bring up someone that doesn’t make me cringe (not that I have any idea who that may be)?

Rhyne Hughes has been playing some OF

That's who I was thinking of
I guess I shouldn’t have said I have no idea who that would be. More like there are a bunch of options, none of which are great. Hughes would be my choice though. I’d play him at 1st and say fuck it. We basically already have 4 OFers on the roster without including Pie anyways.

Or Michael Aubrey
I don’t know, I just can’t stand that Lou.

why
before he got hurt i thought he was finally coming around last year. I could be wrong but I thought he had some upside.
I'd be fine with that
I just hate that so many fans actually think Lou is legit. I listen to 105.7 on my way down and home from Baltimore and there’s always some tool caller talking about how great Lou Montanez is. Lou Montanez is fine for what he is, that being an organizational backup. If we lose a couple OF’s to injury and he has to play a few games, it’s not horrible. He is most definitely not a ML starter though, and he’s not even a ML backup on a decent team. This is why I hate seeing Lou with the big club. It’s not you, Lou, it’s your dumbass fans.

I'm not trying to call you a dumbass
unless you really think he’s a ML caliber starting OFer. The guy has an OBP of .350 over his whole minor league career. That’s not all that impressive, especially seeing how his minor leage career spans 10 years and those numbers include 5 years of A ball. His numbers in the majors (admittedly small samples) aren’t even near acceptable. Sure, he hit .295 his first season in the bigs, but his OBP was .316. Thats ridiculous. Over 67 games in the majors he hit 4 hrs and had a whopping OBP of .285. He’s an adequate fielder, but he’s not Franklin Gutierrez out there (which would be the only thing that could justify carrying his bat at the ML level). He’s also 28 years old. He’s just not good.

cool
i was just trying to figure out why everybody had this hate for him. I never really paid attention to him before, beyond what i saw last year.
I’ll jump on that bandwagon
You totally should +1 yourself here

Not having paid attention to him was a good idea
alot of people wasted alot of time worrying about “wasting his talents”.

Agreed
People LUV Lou because he won the AA triple crown at age 26 on his third try at that level.

oh
see i was just going by what i saw last year in the bigs. I don’t have a man crush on him or anything. thats for reimold. but im about to cheat on that bum.
Put Luke in LF, DH Reimold, and call up a Hughes or Aubrey

FWIW, Lou's been killing the ball in Norfolk
Worse things could happen.
Unless, like me, you were hoping that Pie could become a major trade chip for the O’s.

I am hoping Pie will become
a productive member of the next great Orioles team.

I know...
…but I just think that, if things work out as we hope, he’ll be more valuable to someone else than he is to us.
Ideally, I don’t think there is room on the Orioles for both Reimold and Pie long term. And Pie is a natural center fielder who is plus defensively there, but unlikely to dislodge Jones. And center fielders are worth a lot on the market, and more than corner outfielders. Of course, if neither he nor Reimold can stay healthy that can’t happen, and it can’t happen if Reimold doesn’t come back from his injury and perform at a high level. But ultimately, if Reimold and Pie can play every day and Pie can be part of a package to bring back say, Billy Butler, I say pull the trigger.
Left fielders and DHs are available both cheap and plentifully on the market, and center fielders aren’t. Unless Pie is playing center, if he is successful for us, he’s more valuable to someone else. IMO.

Yeah I get the logic
But I just love the idea of this kid getting pretty much run out of Chicago (you should have heard the way my Cub fan family members talked about him) and finding a home here where he lives up to his potential and the fan base loves him. Silly maybe.
And I’m not totally sold on Reimold. I like him but neither he nor Felix can be counted on yet.

You're not silly...
…and I’m not sold on Reimold either. But we’re not good. And I’m not sold that simply minor improvements to our current core and the improvements of Jones and Wieters are going to be enough to make us good. And with only five seasons of a cheap Wieters after this one, our window isn’t that long.

eh pie's still only 25, he could have a few good years in him
i was hoping he would become maybe a starting left fielder while reimold either played first or DH’ed once luke and atkins were gone.

I think the odds are a lot better that Snyder is the answer at first...
…than that Reimold is.

I don’t know if you mean “killing” in a good or bad way but his OPS is a robust .704 in Norfolk in 2010.
