Nice.
I think Bergesen will have a good game today too.
Gosh, I sure hope so
Since the only guy making his case to replace 3E1N is Jake Arrieta, and promoting him would create a roster issue….and you know, I like Brad and hate to see him utterly helpless like he’s been.

Not saying Matusz will get it, but it would be cool.

He's been great
Matusz’ 4.34 ERA is pretty misleading. His FIP is 1.85 and xFIP is 3.75. Based on the way he’s going I think that 4.34 will definitely drop.
I’d love to see his walks drop a bit, though, and maybe a few more ground balls. I’m confident he’ll get there.

That ERA has alot to do with the pen
Sure, they were his runners, but a decent bullpen doesnt let every single possible inherited runner score. I don’t know the number off the top of my head, but i’d say at least 4 runs he’s given up have been actually given up by the bullpen.
"You accept mediocrity and you get mediocrity." - Adam Jones, Son!
You would be correct.
It’s 4 runs (out of 9 allowed). Take those away, and his ERA is 2.41. If two of them score, it’s 3.38.
Weaver's Fourth Law: Your most precious possessions on offense are your twenty-seven outs.
His WHIP is pretty darn good. 1.232

Aren't his walks heavily skewed by his first start?
1 BB in each of his last two starts seems pretty great to me.

It's refreshing
He seems to have a really good head on his shoulders, to be able to go out there as the rookie of the staff and stop a losing streak like that.
He didn't stop the losing streak
The offense busted out and stopped that losing streak.
Outs in baseball are like lives in Mario.
ummm
I would say he had at least SOMETHING to do with it. Since…you know…if the A’s had scored more than the O’s we would still have a losing streak…
Rub some $100 bills on it, you sell-out. -duck
He pitched great
but for the most part, the starters have all been pitching great (except Bergesen). The Orioles won because the offense got it together for a game. I’m putting the “stopper” status on the bats for this one.
Outs in baseball are like lives in Mario.
hopefully we can keep this winning thing going
if we can keep the offense alive, keep our starters well, and keep matusz away from any ball hit by billy butler i think this could MAYBE shape up to be a good year…i hope.. :/

let’s just see where we’re at after the 12 games with the Yankees and Red Sox.
Outs in baseball are like lives in Mario.
I actually think we'll be okay
going through a crucible like the one this team just endured can actually have good long-term effects.
There’s no reason to be intimidated by the bigger teams when you had a 9-game losing streak against weaker competition.
To me the next 3 days are crucial. Play the M’s competitively (close games, win at least one of them), and I like their chances for the tough stretch, especially against the Sox who are in their own turmoil right now. But if we suck against the Mariners (get swept and/or make mental mistakes again), the next 12 could be brutal.

Eh, there are no definites in baseball
the O’s could get swept in Seattle and then sweep Boston. It’s been known to happen (maybe not with the Orioles, but still).
Dave Cameron mentioned that the M’s have 15 baserunning outs on the season so far, so it isn’t like we’re going up against the Yankees right now, so this seems like a good chance to regroup.
Of course, if Bergesen bombs again then who knows?

It's Patriots' Day here in MA
A trumped up holiday (I guess Baltimore should have a similar Star-Spangled Banner for the War of 1812).
The Red Sox score is flashed all along the Marathon route for the runners. Looks like the Rays are making a fine day of it. They are sweeping the competition Red Sox, and the “Nation” is not happy.
It’s the curse of trying to emulate the late 60’s early 70’;s Orioles with this ‘defense and run prevention". They forgot to look up the fact that the O’s had a great defense, but they also led the league, or were in the top three, in both OPS and OPS+ all those years.
For the runners?

Give Wiggy a full time job
Ty has never gotten an opportunity to play every day for an entire season, since 2003. This is a guy who hit 23 HR’s in 2008 on only 386 AB’s. I know past performance never equals future totals, but given the chance, with 500 AB’s he could hit over 30 HR’s. Isn’t that what the Orioles are missing, that big power bat? And its not like the guy can’t play a position, he can play three, 1st, 3rd, and 2nd. I’m sure he could also play RF or LF which he has in the past. I keep hearing talk of bringing in a guy like Carlos Pena, but if you look at some of the numbers you can see Wigginton had a better AVG and OPS in 2008. Give this guy a full time position and lets see what he can do. If he does good, you can trade him or keep him, and if he does bad, well its not like we were going to win this year anyways.
I'd much rather see him out there
every day than Luke Scott or Atkins…

2008 was a career year for Ty, just like 2008 was the wrong kind of career year for Pena. Pena offers great defense as well. Pena’s real good, however Ty isn’t terrible, i never really loved his signing but didnt mind it because he is solid. Although i dont get the hatred for him, its not like hes fatkins or anything.
