wow
He was a hell of a pitcher. He usually sucked in spring and got going once summer got rolling.

Hopefully there will be some sort of patch in his honor.
In one game as a freshman at Miami, Wieters hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to put the Yellow Jackets ahead, then pitched the bottom of the ninth for the save. On that day, the God nickname was bestowed. - Sports Illustrated

great player
never actually saw him pitch (I’m way too young for that) but just from what I’ve heard he’s one of the alltime great o’s.
just for the record, do you pronouce his name coo-el-er or qu-el-er? I’ve heard both, I was just wondering.

Still think it's shitty
that the players union doesn’t step up and take better care of guys like this. It’s embarrassing considering what the league minimum is these days.
Rub some $100 bills on it, you sell-out. -duck
too bad...
never got to see him play, but his oriole bona fides are unquestionable. hell of a pitcher.

Yeah, he could throw 'em all right. RIP, Mike C, author of many great games

Saw Mike pitch
Unfortunately, I am old enough to have seen Mike Cuellar pitch during his entire career with Baltimore. He was great. His screwball completely baffled hitters. Mike also had excellent control. Year after year we trotted out a rotation that included Palmer, McNally and Cuellar. It was great to watch.
Oh, dear
That is hard. He was truly one of the greats, from a time when giants walked 33rd Street. I remember watching him pitch—one of a kind. The patch idea is most worthy, as would be some kind of ceremony, maybe at the home opener.
moment of silence
that’s wut they did w/ thompson a couple years ago.
