ORIOLES RECALL IF/OF RHYNE HUGHES FROM TRIPLE-A NORFOLK
IF JUSTIN TURNER OPTIONED TO TIDESThe Orioles have announced that they have recalled IF/OF RHYNE HUGHES from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for Hughes on the roster, the team has optioned IF JUSTIN TURNER to the Tides.
Hughes, 26, batted .353 (18-51) with three home runs and 11 RBI for Norfolk. He reached base safely in all 14 games in which he appeared and had an International League-best 11-game hitting streak from April 8-19, batting .400 (16-40) over the span. Hughes ranks among the IL 10 in slugging percentage (T-6th, .667); on-base plus slugging (7th, 1.088); batting average (10th, .353) and on-base percentage (10th, .421).
Hughes was acquired by the Orioles as the player to be named later in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for C GREGG ZAUN on August 15, 2009. He will wear #40 and will be making his major league debut.
Turner, 25, appeared in five games for Baltimore, going hitless in nine at-bats.

nice...i think
this is a brutal stretch of games for him to be making his debut. let’s hope he doesn’t start out slow and lose his confidence early. i can’t believe we got this guy for zauny last year, anyone know where he’ll play in the IF?

Wecome aboard, Rhyne
All we need you to do is completely carry and reenergize this shitastic offense. No pressure though.

exactly
if we’re going to have a guy suffer at the plate, might as well be someone we don’t hate yet

Is Turner just THAT bad at short?
If he is, I guess I get it, but seriously — I don’t think he’d be significantly worse than Lugo. The random veteran pickup isn’t doing us any good; might as well let Turner get some ML experience.

This might not be the current mood
but I still trust AMac.
Just because you know how to read, doesn't mean you'll like the book.
Turner's cup of coffee will have done him some good.
Now we just need Hughes to catch fire.
It could be our great escape from Atkins. Hughes could turn him into the fat ass reincarnation of Ryan Freel.

macphail is a great GM, IMO he’s the favorite to replace selig in 2012

I guess if you plan on using relief pitchers like DT...

so when do we see nolan at 1b?
b/c i can deal w/ lou
"you know what the orioles could use right now? a day off." - joe angel
I could see this
Although its a small sample size, Lou has looked looked better than Nolan in the outfield, but I could deal with Lou in LF and Nolan at 1B. I’m also pissed at Big Tooth Fatkins at having 8 LOB yesterday.
Make that 10 LOB for Fatkins...
According to the MLB box score.

Lou has a fully functioning Achilles tendon
So yeah, I’m good with Lou in the field for a little longer.
