Pie out with shoulder injury
Sigh. From Roch:
Felix Pie might not be in the lineup for the rest of this series because of soreness in his left shoulder.
Pie felt the discomfort, which first surfaced in spring training, while making a throw to the plate during last night's 4-3 loss. He stayed in the game, but has been told to rest tonight and perhaps play catch tomorrow.
"My shoulder's bothering me a little bit, so they're giving me off to see what happens tomorrow and see if I feel much better," he said.
"I hope it's not too much like I did to it in spring training, but with a couple days off I think I'll be OK."
Pie consulted with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells after last night's game. He feels some pain in the shoulder when he throws, and a little bit when he does "the other stuff.
Nolan Reimold will get the start in left field tonight despite the Orioles desire to keep him off the turf.

This was my first thought
seems like an easy way to at least appease Scott and get him some time in the field
That's our first-baseman of the future you're talking about!
May is in the future, isn’t it?
I was just about to post something about this
CBS fantasy sports gave me the scoop. I was impressed it was the 1st place I saw it.

that's the first place I saw it too!
I had to quick get Pie out of my lineup.

AND he went to Rutgers
AND because you have an irrational hatred of him

I don't have an irrational hatred for him
But whatever, you’re gonna think that no matter what.

Ugh.
I hope this isn’t going to be a chronic problem…

This is true
If Nolan feels uncomfortable in any way out there, you start Luke in LF and DH Nolan. You lose a bit in defense but it’s not like we have to run JayPay out there. I can more than deal with Luke in left and Nolan at DH.

You don't lose any defense!
Luke has the best UZR on the team in the OF!!!!!!!
Rub some $100 bills on it, you sell-out. -duck
I really don't care about his UZR
he’s not a butcher out there. He’d be just fine for a few games. It’s left field, not SS and he’s Luke Scott, not Manny Ramierez.

Would it have been smarter for the Orioles to let the injury heal fully during the spring? Or is that not really relevant? I mean, it seems like doing something baseball players normally do shouldn’t aggravate an injury, or at least that would tell me he should’ve been rested more, no?
Librarians are hiding something
We dont really have enough information to know
Its entirely possible that he got it all the way back to 100%, and then just coincidentally re-injured the same shoulder. Its entirely possible they took every precaution and did nothing to rush him back, but, even if they didnt, its a balancing act. Maybe they could have held him out for a few more days, but then maybe he’s going into the regular season without the reps necessary to a) be productive and b) avoid injuring something else.
