Mariners 5, Orioles 1: At least the company was good
2632, zknower, and I had spectacular seats tonight to a wholly unspectacular game. Cliff Lee shut down the Orioles as we all knew he would and they didn't take advantage of the few chances they had. David Hernandez managed to match Lee for a few innings but ultimately he lost control and the game.
Honestly I have a hard time accounting for everything that happened in a game when I'm there. The defense was shoddy (I'm looking at you, Nolan Reimold) and the hits weren't timely. When Nick and Miggi were left and 2nd and 3rd in the fourth inning, that's when I knew they were going to lose.
Sigh. Tomorrow is Brad Bergesen vs Ryan Rowland-Smith. See you then.

Um, yeah. Ya think Ichiro doesn't like crab cakes? Ya think a bear isn't Protestant?
Lifetime .390 at OPACY. Three ninety. It’s sort of fun just to think about.
Oh, and how ’bout this AP lead: “Cliff Lee looked every bit like a Cy Young Award winner in his first victory with the Seattle Mariners. Then again, the Baltimore Orioles have a way of making almost every starting pitcher look good.”
At this rate, someone will soon observe, “The Orioles are lucky to be in f#cking baseball.” By which they’ll mean we’re just not, er, offering a lot of competititon in our division (duh) or in the league. Which we might wanna think about switching. I know, I know: who’d want to play in a dinosaur league w/o a DH? But face it, competitiveness-wise, right now we’re probably somewhere slightly above the middle the NPL (i.e. AAA+/MLB-) and perhaps in the top third of the Japanese Central League (the world’s other no-DH league; yeah, there are still two— and 163,471 regular leagues).
This kind of roll-over-and-expire-quietly routine makes us look less like the “ghost of the St. Louis Browns” than you might think. Folks are doubtless beginning to assume that we are the St. Louis Browns.
OK, Bergurglarson tonight. C’mon, guys: Show up! Play! Um, competitively! You remember! Go O’s!

Oh, I just noticed the policeman in front of the dugout. Was that to keep fans from running into it shouting "Wake up! Wake up!"?
Or to keep our players from running to the Seattle dugout to try and stow away when they leave town?

And with the first pick overall

Yeah, this one wasn't so pretty
we were sitting through the rain and chilly wind behind reimold in left field (sigh) – FWIW, most of the errors (on both sides) seemed mostly rain-aided to me.
Griffey got a nice little courtesy applause from the b-more fans when he came up, presumably after the news that’s been floating around. That’s nice.
On to the next one, against anyone-but-Cliff-Lee :)
yeah so there's a pitcher from australia on the mound tonight with a mid 6 ERA
if we don’t score tonight, we never will

The Signing Bonus: We're back in business.
That sounds like me in high school
