Not really, no
Does the marginal upgrade of Aubrey over Hughes justify having to DFA someone to clear the spot on the 40 man?
I say Castillo or Turner come back.

That's true
Aubrey did play pretty well for us at the end of last season. What about Mickolio?

I don't see how Mickolio is more ready now...
…than he was when he was up before.
That’s the whole problem with demoting Hughes in the first place, honestly. We have no one to replace him who really offers us anything more. Turner and Mickolio aren’t ready. Castillo doesn’t provide us with anything except another mediocre bullpen arm, and we don’t have a shortage of those. Reimold just got there. Tillman still needs work there. Erbe, Patton, Florimon, Spoone, Bell and Snyder aren’t close to ready. Viola has been a disaster. Lebron is hurt. I guess you could 60 day DL Lebron and bring up Salazar or something.

great
So DT can now play reliever roulette in the 9th inning as well?
Our starters are pitching well and going deep into games. And we have a bullpen with Albers, Simon, Meredith, Berken, Hendo, Uehara, and Ohlman already. We need an 8 man pen for something?

We don't want him!!!!!

Something that confused me
Why make the announcement that Hughes is going down after the game, when there will be no corresponding roster move or announcement until the next morning?
I freely admit – I am biased here. I like Rhyne Hughes; I think he’s a good kid that got put into a rough situation where success was going to be difficult. I understand that he’s struggled, and I don’t object to him being sent down. But to do it this way seems punitive and petty. Either wait to make the announcement, or make the announcement about a corresponding call up sooner. That way, you can spin it into a “we need ‘x’ player on our team right now” as opposed to “we had to get rid of this guy as soon as is possible, he’s ruining our team” – even if the latter is true, baseball etiquette seems to dictate that you don’t let the press know it.
im thinking it's more along the lines of getting him more at bats in the minors
than he would get here now. I don’t think they’re trying to spite the kid, sstamour.. Really isn’t the O’s style.
That's my issue
I don’t mind sending Hughes down. Getting him every day ABs in AAA is a perfectly reasonable idea. It was the manner in which they handled the decision, not the decision itself.
More oddness
If Roch Kubatko is to be believed (and he’s usually a pretty reliable conduit of information from the FO), then the Orioles knew last night that David Hernandez was going to miss his start today and made the move to get Castillo to replace Lurch in the bullpen.
So… why didn’t they just DL Hernandez? I can’t figure this out.
