Today?
Well, knee-jerk reactions like that just give me more confidence in Diamond Dave.
Yeah, it’s probably the right move, but it also was obvious after DH’s last start. That, and Cleveland SUCKS against lefties.

A few people on here said that would be a good idea
let’s find out.

To say that I'm furious right now is an understatement
David Hernandez hurt his shoulder TWO WEEKS AGO. And he’s been pitching through it, of course. Just like Johnson. Just like Gonzalez. Just like we let Roberts play his way onto the 60 day DL with a bad back.
We are the stupidest team in baseball. Fuck DT and Crow. Fire Richie Bancells.

The Baltimore Tulips
The most delicate team in the majors. Injuries happen, but jesus christ – at least injure yourself with some skill. We suck AND get injured.
We're not actually even that close to being the most delicate
We’re much healthier than the Red Sox, Rockies or the Phillies, for example. The problem is that so many of our injury problems have been made worse by poor team decisions about when to put players on the DL.
The Phillies, Red Sox and Rockies are all contenders. Yet they all know better than to keep trotting out their injured guys and make their problems worse. We’re playing for essentially nothing, but we can’t manage to shelf guys when they can’t play until they need to see Dr. Andrews.
It is a disgrace.

I guess this explains the Castillo move.
but wouldn’t it make sense to put Hernandez on the DL Instead of demoting Hughes? Assuming they dont want to shake up the rotation, DH would only have to miss one other start by going on the DL.
Of course it would
But that would require our having an attitude other than, “hey, maybe he’ll feel a bit better in a few days and we can wreck his arm in order to be only the fourth worst team in baseball this year!”
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
Roch says he didn't tell anyone until after Tuesday's start
so Hernandez has to take some responsibility
meanwhile the drumbeat goes on
me? i blame trembley for the rainstorm last week.

Still, he hasnt pitched since then so the DL move is retroactive
They can put him the DL for the next 9 days to make room for the extra reliever rather than demoting hughes. Even if the hughes move was going to happen anyway, you can still put DH on the DL to free another spot.
yeah I agree with that
It was more about placing blame on Trembley for having him pitch through soreness when he never even knew about it.
Great
Of course, it still says plenty about us that even after a rash of key injuries, we still have a clubhouse atmosphere where guys aren’t telling the team when they are hurt.
What isn’t wrong with our organization right now?
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
eh
I’m not saying it’s NOT the clubhouse atmosphere, but players do that all the time, not just on the Orioles. These guys want to play.
PS
And also: a lot of people thought Gonzalez was hurt in ST, because his mechanics didn’t look right and his velocity was down. But the “professionals” – Kranitz and DT and the rest of them shot that shit down, saying he’d be fine, and trotted him out there to suck and then “Oh, gosh, he’s hurt, we had no idea.”
These are guys who are supposedly at the peak of their professions, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and with budgets of hundreds of thousands if not millions more. They have access to top medical experts, to highly advanced analytical tools, and to a staff with nothing else to do but to review thousands of hours of tape of these guys pitching and hitting from a slew of angles.
So while I understand that the players often conceal this stuff (although a smart club would create an incentive structure that combated that), the idea that they have no idea that these guys aren’t right until they come into Dave’s office and say “I’m hurt” strikes me as bullshit.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
especially fringe guys
DH probably knows that if he goes on the DL there’s a real good chance that Tillman/Arrieta will be up and if they do well his spot will be gone. Fringe guys really can’t afford DL trips. I totally understand him not telling anybody.
Rub some $100 bills on it, you sell-out. -duck
Here's a brief blurb
Orioles SP David Hernandez was scratched from Sunday’s start against the Indians with discomfort in his right shoulder. MLB.com reports that he had been struggling with the discomfort for the last two weeks and reported it to the team after his last start against Seattle. For now, Hernandez will not undergo an MRI. He was replaced on Sunday by swingman Mark Hendrickson.

i heard on the wrap up show that nolan is playing 1st base at aaa. does this mean we have no confidence in the other 1b man at triple a, and is this the end of garrt
I don't think it is that at all
I don’t think Snyder is really that close to being ready. Nolan would be a nice replacement for Garrett this season plus it would add some versatility if they wanted to start Pie in LF when he comes back. Basically it’s a great way to get the best bats in the lineup and the best defense on the field.

So the local NY news just did a sports feature on David Wright
and how he must be afraid of the ball now (after he got hit in the head) and is striking out waaaay too much and we all have to worry if he’ll ever be a great player again. Now i’ll admit, 51 K’s is alot (leading the league) but he has a line of
.278/.400/.534 (.934 OPS, 8 HR’s). If you want to trade him since he is so terrible, I’m pretty sure you could work something out with the O’s.

I thought we were going to sign him after the 2013 season? :-)

We'll take him off their hands
if they throw in a little cash. We’ll even send Pedro Florimon up north just to make it even. And Garrett Atkins, so they can have a quality NL 1B.

if the Mets demanded it.
