What a disappointment this guy
he needs to get a clue. For a very brief moment, his final charge to the win at the tour was one of the most amazing sporting accomplishments I had ever seen.
Oh jeez. He is on the front page of the times. Please disappear Floyd. Seek counseling.
I know I am (sadly) replying to myself and that maybe 1 percent of you have any interest in competitive cycling but I need to amend my first comment. Of course his accomplishment was an ‘amazing’ feat. He was on mass amounts of testosterone. What I meant was ‘exciting’. That day was great television and provided an apex fan experience.
Floyd is very bitter. Us fans were very disappointed when the drug use was revealed. But it is everything that has happened since that is un-stomachable. If he weren’t so bad at being a human he would have a lot of sympathy.
Had Floyd 'fessed up
and taken his suspension, he’d be racing right now. Just like if Pete Rose had just said, “You know, I had a problem with gambling, I bet on my own team to win,” he’d be in the Hall of Fame now.
Did we learn nothing from Watergate? The coverup is always worse than the crime.

Sample size is big enough now
Atkins can no longer play the game of baseball at the Major League level. He won’t be released and nobody wants him in trade, so he is just a wasted roster spot. Maybe someone can injure him, so he can be placed on the DL?
But is Aubrey going to make much of a difference? I hope so, but have my doubts. (see: Rhyne Hughes).
No need to injure him
Just convince him to say he’s injured. The Redskins did it for most of the 1980’s. You think MLB is gonna demand independent medical testing to prove an injury? If a player says he’s injured, that’s good enough for MLB.
And if he doesn’t go for it, and accept an “injury rehab” stint in Norfolk with a chance to come back to the O’s, then cut him lose.
When you watch the Orioles every night, a beer after dinner turns into a six pack WAY too many times. Stacey
My idea of injury to Atkins
Is a sort of tragicomic accident in a pepper game or someone lights his shoe that has been secretly glued to his foot so that he can’t get it off in time to avoid minor burns, just enough to make it painful to stand inside a batter’s box. Or inadvertantly being hit in the face with a pie by Adam Jones that, instead of being filled with shaving cream, is filled with cement or metal spikes or…

Orioles worst in the league in hits per run.
Well, I’m just looking at the American league, Orioles need 2.51 hits to score a run, which is about .20 worse than Seattle. That goes to show why the Orioles have only scored 8 more runs than Seattle despite 45 more hits. H/R, I don’t think is a useless stat, it correlates with winning.
The Orioles are third to last in doubles this year. But there is a slight sample size problem involved with this number, and 2.52 will definitely fall by about a half run by the end of the year. We needed 2.03 hits last year to score each run last year, which was only better than two teams (KC and SEA), and only .05 better than the next-worse team. It’s a stat that eventually comes closer the mean, but the when an average team gets 1400 hits in a season, a small difference in H/R can mean a big difference in actual runs scored.
Anyway, only bad teams need more than 2 hits to score a run, night after night.
Over the last 2 and a half years, the league average is about 1.90.

Actually it sounds stupid to say that's "WHY the Orioles have scored only 8 more runs..."
The number is just a reflection of the fact and doesn’t really give any insight into WHY.

We know have ONE player in the lineup with any chance of running
and that’s Corey. Izzy’s gone base-stealing stupid, Luke, Wieters, Atkins, and Wiggy run like Mack Trucks in 2nd gear, and Nick’s success is advancing bases, not stealing them. Adam’s fast, but doesn’t have a clue on how to use it.

The O’s are a moribund franchise. I wish it weren’t so, but there is nothing I can do to change their plight. I’m not sure they know how to change their plight.
In the meanwhile we’re watching a young organization with a super front office take it to the Yankees and Red Sox. They are young, athletic, and just fun to watch while they pound away at the ESPN darlings. I root for them to win every single day and thus guarantee that one of the other you know who is booted from the post season.
I don’t know who long it will last as payroll pressures mount and these guys perhaps migrate off to richer teams. But it sure is super in the moment.
P.S. The old glory day O’s also did a hell of a lot with less thanks to super GM’s and a great manager. Maybe I see shades of the O’s of the past in the Rays of the present.

Andy MacPhail can't hold Andrew Friedman's jock strap.
I’ve been thinking about writing a fanpost about this but Andy has zero ability in picking up “secondary” players. George Sherrill is his only good acquisition in this regard. Otherwise, he most relies on retrends to fill out roster spots. A stark contrast to Friedman.
I came to camdenchat and all I got was this lousy avatar.
Felix Pie? Wiggy?
I don’t think that’s really fair. Luke Scott was a secondary player in the Tejada deal. Wiggy was signed to be a bench bat, and he’s clearly been worth more than what he’s been paid. Pie was a flyer on a busted prospect who we got for a song. Ohman hasn’t been as good as his ERA, but he’s a nice pickup on a non-roster invite.
I agree that Friedman is better, IMO. But MacPhail isn’t that bad in this regard. And since it has long been Angelos’ MO, I dunno how much blame we can put on Andy in any case.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
Wiggy – 87 OPS+, -.8 WAR in 2009
Pie – 99 OPS+ in 2009, 1.2 WAR in 2009, played in 8 games in 2010.
Scott has been valuable, but he is too old for this team. Pie did fine in 2009 and I think he’s a good pick up. But the dude has played in 8 games this year. I’m not going to go ape shit over him (yet) or Ohman. Now the counter evidence. We have too many roster spots to players who have no long term future and/or suck (Tejada, Williams, Atkins, Montanez, Albers, Wiggy, Millwood, Lugo, Hughes). I’m not saying we can’t sign tier B or C vets. If they’re cheap and on a short term contract, I’m completely fine with them. But I am saying that Andy has done a good job in targeting prospects for a good nucleus but he’s terrible at finding secondary, role players. I’ll give him credit for Pie and Sherrill (who was traded for Bell), but let’s not pretend these are shining examples. I mean my god, look at our line up everyday. There’s always 3 to 5 spots filled with people who suck or won’t be here next year.
I came to camdenchat and all I got was this lousy avatar.

I was actually going to go to the Mets series (It’s always fun to see a local team I don’t totally despise play the O’s, plus I like getting to see Wright and Reyes live), but i’m going to the Nats game on that Sunday instead (local “rivalries” are always fun, plus we might actually be able to win a couple of games there). The Sox game is prime, so free tickets to that are worth more at face value, plus Sox fans are freaking out thinking it’s the end of the world, so seeing some self-hating Sox fans live again might be fun.

Not sure if anybody remembers talking about annoying co-workers but I brought up a guy in my office that refers to himself as a Rock Star that most of you found amusing. I just wanted to share with you that it has come to my attention that the office Rock Star now has an entourage. How do I know? – you ask. I heard him say “I will be there with my entourage”. Where? – you ask. Salsa Dancing.
Disclaimer: I am not one to make fun of people but at some point this guy is just asking for it. In addition, I have nothing against Salsa Dancing or those who do it – in fact, when done properly it looks cool – it’s just I don’t think you need to bring an entourage to Salsa Dancing. But I could be wrong.

And while he has a historical platoon split, it isn’t this bad. His current numbers are ridiculous. But that’s unlikely to be his true talent level. And in any case, who cares? I don’t see how stopping switch hitting is going to make him hit lefties better.

At the moment, aside from Chris Tillman
How’s that return working out for us?
Sure, we got 1.5 pretty good seasons from Flat Breezy. We got 0.5 great seasons from Adam Jones. Josh Bell MIGHT be good. Steve Johnson MIGHT be organizational filler at AAA.
But 2.5 years out from that trade, the return isn’t looking nearly as awesome as we thought it might, even after flipping Sherrill.
That said, IF Chris Tillman comes up and pitches well and this team sniffs .500, then it was absolutely the right move to make. Just not as awesome as we hoped.

Bedard has pitched in 30 games the past 2 seasons. Would you have rather we had him sitting on the DL for us? I think it was the right move regardless, we needed to acquire prospects since the organization was so thin. The shine has worn off it a tad though after the recent struggles of Jonesy.

I'm just saying
this wasn’t necessarily the deal to take. Is it a failure of scouting? Or just bad luck?
We don’t know what else was on the table or what may have become available. I’m just saying, for his signature trade, MacPhail’s reputation for being a trading genius fades everytime Adam Jones swings at a curve a foot out of the zone and Josh Bell struggles to bat even .200 against lefties.
When you watch the Orioles every night, a beer after dinner turns into a six pack WAY too many times. Stacey
i find it perplexing
How it’s just the tone around here that Adam is a bust. And you know what? Even if he turns out that way, that trade still should have been done. So soon we forget about how everyone in baseball was amazed at the O’s haul. Sure it had a level of risk, doesn’t mean there was an error in scouting.

Do I have to request MASN 2 special or something?
It’s not on the channel lists and the guy I was chatting with from their site couldn’t find it as an add-on.

I know that with Comcast, C-SPAN2 switches over to MASN2 when there is a game on. Not sure if this is also the case with Direct TV/Verizon.

If you are slatedto get MASN and CSN
as your local sports, you should get MASN 2 also. Channel 641 and 641-1 (HD).

No Comcast
Half of their HD channels including MASN will randomly go out, sometimes in the middle of a game or LOST.
yeah I'm very tired of comcast.
I’ll probably have to stick with them for internet.

I believe it's Verizon that doesn't have MASN2
I have Comcast and they obviously suck, but my only other option is DirecTV which doesn’t provide me the internet connection to which I’ve grown accustomed.
Fios doesn't have MASN2 specifically, but...
they do show MASN2 O’s / Nats games on Channel 1

Including the Expos years it’s 18-21, but just since they moved to D.C. it’s 12-12
I looked under team, never thought to look under games.
