StreetInsider.com - Southwest Airlines Begins Baltimore-Panama City Beach Service
On Monday, May 24 from noon to 1 p.m., Southwest Airlines is turning McKeldin Square (located at the corner or Pratt and Light streets) into a beach scene complete with beach bags, beach balls, the one and only Baltimore Orioles Mascot, and dozens of Southwest employees dressed ready to head to the beach! The employees will be passing out 200 beach bags to the first passersby who show up. The bags are filled with items donated by local businesses from Panama City Beach. Also, six beach bags will contain two roundtrip tickets on Southwest, plus hotel accommodations to the Panama City Beach Area! ... I clipped it because of the Bird's appearance, but one of you should go down there and win that trip. -zk
IN THE MINORS:
Norfolk won 3-2 as Robert Andino had a two-out, ninth inning single for the walk-off win, Bowie won 5-1 as Zach Britton went 6.0 IP and gave up just 1 run, Keys lost 6-1 as Rick Zagone gave up six runs in the first two innings, and the Shorebirds lost 2 games as they gave up big innings in both games, surrendering a 5-run 4th inning in Game 1 and a 7 run inning in Game 2.
Adam Loewen Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights
I know it's just the minors, but still: our old friend Adam Loewen seems to be figuring out AA pitching. His AVG/OBP/OPS on the year is .265/.374/.827. But more impressive are his last 10 games: .351/.429/.996. Wonder if we could trade for him? -zk

Some Nats trash talk
Headline over at Federal Baseball: Another humiliating loss to a last place team.
Now, yes the Orioles are in last place and yes they’re awful. But…do the Nats fans actually THINK the Nats are good? I haven’t hung around Federal Baseball enough to get their vibe, so I’m not sure. But the team has allowed over 20 more runs than it has scored, for crying out loud. Do they think Josh Willingham is going to OBP >400 all year? Or the the reanimated corpse of Pudge Rodriguez is going to hit like this the entire season? Or a billion other things about the Nats that I don’t know about?
I had written the following comment over there in that story but I deleted it before posting because I decided it was kind of troll-y: Don’t worry Nats fans, I’m sure by the time your team comes to Baltimore next month it will be two last place teams playing against each other so the losses won’t be as humiliating.
well they aren't bad
better than we are.

plus i have a slight feeling as though they might be interested in roy oswalt
not sure who they’d have to give up though.

No way that'll happen
Roy Oswalt has a no trade clause and he’s asking to leave the Astros. Why on earth would he agree to go to the Nationals?
And yes, they are bad. Just because they’re not as bad as the Orioles this year doesn’t mean they’re good.
they've got quite a bit of potential tho
they need some improvement in the bullpen, but that will come.

They also need almost an entire lineup. They have 3 major league hitters.

I'm not sure they are better than we are
Sure, their record is better, but look at who they play.

eh
we play our fair share of bad teams too. its really hard to compare an NL team to an AL team so i’ll give you that, but they’re definitely improving. we’ll see what happens.

I think
While we’ve had alot of players nor play up to potential, theyve had a few play over their heads. Couple that with not having to play the Yanks-Rays-Sox and with their incredible luck (giving up more runs than they score while playing above .500 ball) and i’d still take the O’s over the Nats any day.
"things like locig and prrofreading are actually valued here" - zknower
i wouldnt
the o’s cant hit at all. plus, there are a handful of teams right around .500 who have scored fewer runs than their opponents. cincy has outscored opponents by just 4 runs and they are 24-18.
the only thing keeping the orioles in games right now is the pitching (more specifically the exceptional starting pitching). the nationals aren’t consistent at all, but at least they’ve been able to hit every once in a while.

Jeez, I bet Charles Krauthammer cried himself to sleep last night. Oh, the humiliation...
Federal Baseball was pretty good in its early going. I remember SC saying Check the guy out — it was paarently pretty much a one-man show, and the poor one man was infinitely more knowledgable than the average Gnats fan (if any Gnats fan can be called average). Anyway, it appears they (he?) have/has slipped a bit since then…

the moore article is funny
you keep reading it, there are some comments on koji being unavailable since wednesday because he was extremely taxed after pitching 30 pitches in the texas heat. Trembley sounds annoyed by his fragileness.

You don't move DH to the bullpen, IMO
What you want to do is trade Millwood or Guthrie and develop Hernandez into a mid-rotation starter, or build Hernandez into a mid-rotation starter and trade him.
Relievers have little value on anything but a contender. Starters are valuable to everyone.

can you really teach control though?
i totally agree with you, but i don’t really feel as though he’ll have value to anyone walking 4-5 per game and only getting through 5 innings.

Eh
Lots of pitchers develop better control the more time they spend in the majors. I think it is way too soon to give up on him.

time will tell. its not like we really have somebody to replace him yet since i’m still not convinced that millwood is going to continue his current success.
