Just a simple, mind-boggling statistical comparison; the ERA+ of Ubaldo Jiminez vs. the added ERA+'s of ALL of the starting Oriole Pitchers.
I don't know how many of us watch a lot of NL West baseball, but Ubaldo Jiminez is, so far, having the most spectacular year in pitching history. I'm not really kidding. Sub .99 ERA, .932 WHIP, .1 HR/9, 8.2 K/9, 2.52 K/BB. Most outrageous is his ERA+: 464. I'm sure many of you are aware of how good he's been, but let me just repeat that: A 464 ERA+.
On a whim I decided to see how that stacked against the Os starters ERA+ if all 5 were added together.
Millwood: 115
Guts: 110
Matusz 81
Hernandez 80
Bergesen 70
Total: 456
So to recap, that's Ubaldo at a video-game-stupid 464, and the Orioles, added together nonsensically at 454.
I hope to update this as the season goes along.
I have too much time on my hands.
