Orioles Insider: Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and the leadoff dilemma
"Trembley has said that his reason for keeping Jones at leadoff is the young center fielder needs to learn to be a better all-around hitter, to show better plate discipline, work the count and use his speed more." I think Jamie Moyer is the only guy in the majors older then my dad.
I could be wrong, though.

not a huge fan of the picks straight out of HS

Eh
I’m not a huge fan of pitchers in the first round, but at the same time, I think we all like Hobgood less because he wasn’t a consensus top 5 guy. If we had taken Matzek (who has yet to throw a pro pitch) or Jacob Turner (who looked awesome in three starts with 14 Ks to 1 BB in 12 innings before going on the DL), I think we’d be bitching less.

it's not really the pitchers in the first round thing
i’m part of the “take the best possible player available” lobby. hobgobbles wasn’t that guy.

probably true
I gave the FO the benefit of the doubt b/c i had never seen any of them pitch, and while its still real early, Hobgobbles isn’t making them look smart, just cheap.

I'm not so sure
How great does Matzek look still in extended spring training? How great does Turner look already hurt with less than a month of professional experience? Hobgood is a 19 year old in A ball; I’m willing to give it some time. Right now, unlike the people ranked a bit ahead of him, he’s managing to pitch. In games. That counts.

Well, I assume that Matzek is pitching in extended ST

haha i'm just kidding
i thought the “he’s managing to pitch. In games” was funny.

"O's threaten changes fantasy owners have already made"
Though to be fair, most fantasy owners have better alternative options to utilize than Corey Patterson.

That's Avery's first home run of the year, actually
Meanwhile, Bell is on fire lately – also has had five of his six walks in the last ten games, including two last night.

Avery and Hoes
Have seen huge improvements i their K/BB, its real good to see. Its also good to see Bell mashing, maybe come august we get to see what he has to offer. Snyder on the other hand is doing nothing to make me believe he belongs in this coversation.

Jones at top of the order
If the guy is pressing, which he has admitted, how does thepressure of hitting at the top of the order helping? Beyond pressing, Jones looks like he just can’t recognize pitches. If he’s got two strikes almost anything that starts out in the strike zone and breaks out will have him flailing. I realize the O’s have no clear option for the top of the order, but why put a kid you claim is part of the future up there while he continues to fail. Jones belongs at number 8 or so (or AAA) while he tries to figure things out. The season is already a bust, and if Jones really is part of the future, it’s more important to help him. That crap Trembley spouted makes me think this franchise will never figure out how to get their collective heads out of their collective asses.
Any one know if there is a site of old O's radio broadcasts archived and available for download?
