Orioles Swept By Toronto, Rock Bottom Gets Lower | Baltimore Sports Report

So I've been away since Friday

Last night I used the word glorious describing how it felt to watch no Orioles baseball for three days.

I'm taking my O's vacation starting tonight
Watching them get swept by the Yankees isn’t my idea of fun.
When you watch the Orioles every night, a beer after dinner turns into a six pack WAY too many times. Stacey
Heh
I’m making the opposite choice, and seeing them live for the first time tonight at the House the NYC Taxpayers Built. Section 313 if anyone is going to be there.

I hope they win for you!
I mean, I always hope they win, but whenever someone gets to see them who normally can’t I hope extra hard. I feel like I have some good karma built up so I’ll try and send it your way.
I just hope Matusz pitches well
I care less that the O’s win at this point than that Jones, Wieters, Matusz and Tillman play well for the rest of the season. I take no comfort in our potentially winning games on the play of Scorey and b2b et al if that foursome continues to struggle.

Although i’ll add Pie once he returns, DH and 3E1N to that list

Pie and Reimold I agree about
I care a lot less about DH now that he’s in the pen, and 3E1N isn’t as important to me. I hope he succeeds, but I have no belief that he can be an ace for us.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
I have different levels of hope
I still think 3E1N can be Mark Burhle light, a 4th or 5th starter that goes deep into games all the time. DH could be that set-up guy or closer that keeps us from paying $12 M to the next 3 Mile Island.
My expectations for Reimold actually are rather low, i was always more bearish on him than most people. I always thought he was streaky and a Luke Scott type player when he was in the minors.

was injuries. And that’s maybe still the case?

I'm not suggesting that you should be
only that Reimold seems to be a guy who gets hurt a lot – and that hurts his value (obviously) as a potential everyday player.
"The wise man saith, 'Put all your eggs in the one basket and--WATCH THAT BASKET.'"
I think Luke Scott's career...
….has been pretty good, and I’d be happy to get that from Reimold.
But in this case, I’m looking at upside. Bergy’s absolute peak upside is pretty low – he’s Andy Sonnastine or John Garland if we’re extremely lucky. Reimold’s upside is a lot higher. Now, both of us can doubt that he’ll reach it. But I can root for it.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
I'd be happy with that from Reimold minus the streaks.
Luke’s overall career stats paint a much rosier picture than looking at month-to-month breakdowns. When all the production comes in a few 2-3 week hot streaks it’s much less valuable.
Agree with your assessment of Bergy though. I’d be surprised if he’s a long term major leaguer.

Fair enough
But I still hope they win for you :) It’s always nice to see a win in person, especially in an out of town ballpark. I’ll just hope they win on a Wieters grand slam and a Matusz shutout.
as long as he doesnt jump on home plate after the grand slam
then i’m all for it

But I HATE onions. Can’t stand ‘em. You walk in that place and you will reek of them for the next 3 days. You know that now thought i’m sure.
"things like locig and prrofreading are actually valued here" - zknower
You are obsessed with smelling like things
I didn’t smell like onions after that I didn’t smell like crabcakes after eating at Faidleys :) They were good for little greasy burgers.
I dunno...
You can smell that place just driving by it. Jen used to go there for lunch when she worked for a small company nearby but she said they’d either all of them would have to go or none because they’d smell for the rest of the day.
Next time you’re up here you gotta try Brooklyn’s pizza. It’s a more traditional type of pizza with the fresh mozz and the sause on top but it’s delicious and right down the road.
"things like locig and prrofreading are actually valued here" - zknower
sounds good
In Hackensack also? I’ll be back up in two weeks, maybe we’ll check it out.
We played darts at your bar on Saturday night, it wasn’t too crowded bc of the holiday I guess. I think we’re going to make it one of our go-to places (if you don’t mind us stealing it).
By all means, go for it
And yea, Brooklyn’s is in Hackensack as well, although if you prefer thin crust pizza Lido’s is the way to go (also within walking distance of Poitin Still). There aren’t many great bars in the area, but almost all the decent ones are Irish pubs for some reason. If you’re looking for a different place let me know.

Usually for pizza they go to Rudy's in Closter
And I just go wherever they tell me since I’m some hick from the south who doesn’t know good pizza to save my life.
Well Lido and Brooklysn are both awesome
Just depends on what you like better. Lido is great thin crust but it’s more like standard pizza while Brooklyn’s is quite different from your regular pizza joint and has very fresh ingredients. I’d say try Brooklyns 1st but both are worth the visit.

I took paternity leave from the o's
missed the WAS/OAK/BJ’s series. still didnt sleep though. this mfy series should help that out.
It is really getting hard to watch at this point.
I mean, it’s been hard to watch all season, really, except for that beautiful sweep of the Red Sox, but it’s been especially hard lately. I really thought things were turning around when we came out of that 12-game stretch vs. BOS and NYY with a 5-7 record, but not so much. And now we’ve got a 9-game stretch against them starting tonight.
I think the most frustrating thing is that mid-late May was supposed to be a nice breather, but they looked much worse than in the April games against TB (two losses entirely on Gonzo, otherwise mostly-decently played) and TOR.
I’ve only been half-watching the last several games, but I’ll still put tonight’s on… I’m paying too much for that MLB.TV subscription not to use it. Hopefully Matusz won’t look awful.
I really hope all this losing isn’t completely destroying our young guys psychologically…

It was good to read those scouting reports
To see that scouts haven’t given up on Jones and especially Wieters. This just reminded me that this was the year the Crow was finally given “talent” to work with and he’s really not doing anything with it. There shouldn’t be any doubts about him sucking now.

So I was sitting
in one of those old car diners in Rochester, NY yesterday for some brunch before heading back home, and the Yankee Encore was on (muted, thank goodness) from the drubbing they gave Cleveland on Sunday afternoon. What really struck me (though I wasn’t particularly interested in watching) was just how much more focused and ready and attacking New York looks compared to Baltimore. Those guys look like they want nothing more than to embarrass the Indians, while Corey Patterson is twirling his glove around his waist because he’s bored and Garret Atkins looks like he can’t even see the pitcher.
I’m not saying this to heap on Dave Trembley. I think the losing more than anything took the wind out of the sails (and led to more losing)…it was just a sad moment of clarity.

A glance at message boards indicates it is rampant.
I caught it too. At this point I don’t care what the Orioles do. They’ll muddle around and do whatever it is they do in the front office. When they are through doing whatever it is they do and make a decision, we’ll hear about it. It’s June 1 and this season has already been to damn long.

Hope?
I took a multi-year hiatus as a fan but returned after AM was hired. To me, the biggest disappointment has been the absence of bats at the minor league level. After last years AFL, I was counting on Bell and Snyder to force their way to Baltimore in the second half.
Their lack of production, coupled with Rowell’s continued mediocre hitting, means that we have no real position prospects in the high minors. The Orioles need an entire infield (except for 2B if Roberts returns), and there are no exciting candidates at AAA or AA.
I did not like the Hobgood selection last year, and we won’t have a second round selection this year. So, the draft does not hold out a lot of hope. I just don’t see how a team like ours, which allowed both the farm system and the major league team to go completely to hell, can bounce back.
