Saturday Bird Droppings
Recaps from last night's loss (told you I had a keyboard macro for that) can be found at MASNsports, Orioles.com, The Sun, and the Wall Street Journal.
Some notes and quotes from the O's loss to the Mets - MASNsports.com
Jeremy Guthrie is trying to stay positive, Brad Bergesen is trying to learn how to warm up as a reliever, and Nick Markakis, Adam Jones and Scott Moore are having nice little runs at the plate at the moment. -duck
Bergesen makes first career relief appearance | orioles.com: News
"My adrenaline was kicking, and I think I was trying to throw a little too hard," Bergesen said of his struggles with the first two batters. "When you do that, especially for me, you lose your sink and the ball flattens out. I think that happened at times tonight on some of the pitches." When you're a sinkerball pitcher and the sinker doesn't sink, it's gonna be a long night. -duck

Remember all that talk a day ago about handing the closer job back to Alfredo Simon when he's healthy? Yeah, that's not going to happen unless David Hernandez melts down. -duck

The Toy Department: Wanted: A manager like 'Foxy Ned'
"Had the Orioles had less of that aggressiveness, we would never have won any pennants," [Ned] Hanlon once said. "Players are only human, and when they are (not hustling), their hearts will go down in their boots, they will become indifferent, the game will go glimmering and the public will leave in disgust." good morning everyone.
there will be an England-USA WC thread FP’d around an hour before the game.
Also, I really hope the Orioles don’t feel a need to interview Rick Dempsey again.
That is all.

This has gotta be the most hyped USA men's soccer game, EVER.
I mean, for god’s sake, they’re starting pregame an hour before hand.

It's been really hot here lately.
It’s summer so I’m going to elect to stay in my room all day, maybe read a book, but mostly watch my netflix (which I just discovered is completely awesome). It’s going to be a great day!
By the way, I think I’ll stop watching the Orioles this season. Well, I just started. I think that’s the point. I’ve checked up on scores and that’s depressing enough, but to actually watch them lose is excruciatingly painful.
For the record, firefox didn’t put a little red line under excruciatingly — I spelled it right! The first time, that is.
I'm back. YAY SUMMER!
I know it's not mentioned in this edition of bird droppings...
but was Rick Dempsey really the “super top secret” interview?
What up?
More realignment drama

KU and K State have to go somewhere
Mizzou wanted Big 10, but Nebraska took their slot.
Sleeper here? Watch to see if UMd ends up somewhere besides the ACC. It could still happen.
When you watch the Orioles every night, a beer after dinner turns into a six pack WAY too many times. Stacey
I reaaaly don't want to be in the Big 10, or whatever it'll be named by next year.

manager search
“Former Rangers and Mets manager Bobby Valentine, now an analyst for ESPN, met Friday with Orioles owner Peter Angelos and general manager Andy MacPhail about the club’s managerial situation, a source confirmed Friday.”
Why the eff is Angelos meeting with the manager candidates anyway?
Librarians are hiding something
It seems like people are actually interested in this job
that’s quite surprising. Maybe some of these guys are more optimistic about our future than we are.

I’m shocked he’s interested in dealing with it again.
