Granted, I don't follow the baseball world outside the O's too closely,

but it seems to me all the managers interviewed thus far are even more old school than Dave Trembley. What gives, Andy?

by perpetualstudent on Jun 17, 2010 8:19 AM EDT reply actions

Jake Fox

Would be an ok pickup so long as we didn’t give up anything for him. We could dfa Atkins and wouldnt have to carry a backup catcher.

Insert something witty here.

by Knubles and Bits on Jun 17, 2010 8:37 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

It would be a GREAT pick up

for the one reason of taking atkins off of the roster.

What up?

yea

anything to get rid of lugo or atkins is a +1 in my book

I like how people are excited

over a dude that just got DFA’d. Personally just bring up Aubrey.

he's gotta be better than the guy we're about to DFA

no doubt

but i am sure if the number crunchers out there want to get all fancy they may find Aubrey is better overall. But then again I am sure you can find some random stat that says Fox is better at night in July against RHP’s that were born in the winter with some crazy xNJR+ symbol.

by Philly O's on Jun 17, 2010 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Oh i'd take Aubrey too.

Either/or is a victory in my mind.

What up?

by snakethejake on Jun 17, 2010 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

he’s gotta be better than the guy we’re about to DFA

Fox OPS+ 60
Atkins OPS+ 56

they both suck.

He also has a big edge

in not being named Garrett Atkins

by kba26 on Jun 17, 2010 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions

he's got a huge edge on discounts at the dentist too

i’m sure atkins’ dental bills are enormous.

Jason Fox would be a nice breath of fresh air at First Baseman

Plus, like snakethekaje said, it would be one more good reason to take Atkins off the roster.

Um, what?

From a FanGraphs article:

…[Aubrey] Huff is enjoying National League life. He’s walking more than ever, striking out at rates unforeseen from him since his days as a zealous and nubile – oh yes, nubile – third baseman for the Devil Rays.

Nubile? Really? I looked the word up in two different sources to be sure, and it just doesn’t make any sense to use it that way. Sometimes FanGraphs people try to be way too clever in their writing.

"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all." -- Earl Weaver

Yeah

It only works for women. That makes no sense, but maybe that’s why he reconfirmed it. I guess he’s trying be ‘clever’ like you said.

does he mean “nimble”? And I think he meant “right fielder” as opposed to “third baseman”.

I have a job this summer

Which really makes me feel like I’m on a more equal level with my elders here. Of course, there’s no way I can go on the computer during breaks (I’m working in this program where you are paired with a special needs kid and try to integrate them into the general camp), but still, I’m on the payroll.

By the way, who else is delusional enough to think that Jake Arietta is a shoo-in for ROY? Not only is doing great after, ahem, two starts, but for my shallow side, he is extremely good-looking. That counts for something, right?

I'm back. YAY SUMMER!

By the way, who else is delusional enough to think that Jake Arietta is a shoo-in for ROY?

Yes. The guy has had two starts. Wait until the league gets familiar with him. I don’t know how many pitchers I’ve seen called up from the minors, start off well in the rotation, and then massively struggle with the O’s over the years (off the top of my head, Jason Johnson, Josh Towers, Travis Driskill, even John Parrish and Rick Bauer had a couple of good starts starting off).

I came to camdenchat and all I got was this lousy avatar.

"Yes" wasn't really an answer to that question

By saying “who else?” I was asking who else thinks that. But thanks anyway. You proved that I am, in fact, delusional.

Who else? Not sure, Carlos Santana, Neftali Feliz, and Austin Jackson look like a good bets.

by birdman on Jun 17, 2010 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd prefer Fox over Aubrey

reasons:

1) Fox hasn’t hit well this year, but he also didn’t get a chance to play every day in Oakland.
2) when he did play he was jerked all over the place (OF, C, 3B)
3) Aubrey’s minor league numbers are ok, Fox’s are better and with more power. He won’t put up these numbers in the bigs, but I don’t think he’s been given a full chance to show what he can do.

They are the same age and I think Fox has a higher ceiling, so he’d be my pick for Atkins relief.

Anybody else enjoy Jamie Moyer taking down the Yankees last night?

I work in north NJ; if our dress code allowed it, I totally would’ve worn my Moyer jersey T-shirt to work today.

I declared myself that earlier today

I hate all of those names at the bottom of the screen. You might remember that awhile ago I removed them completely when I added that name list to the sidebar. Then I was advised by some SBN folk to put my name back at the bottom, so I went ahead and did so, but I hated that long long list of names. It looked so silly to me, so I took them off. But I didn’t want to have just my name under “managers” bc that wouldn’t account for zk and duck, so I instead decided I was the most interesting woman in the world.

It’s been a VERY slow day at work.

Isn't it almost impossible to believe that none of the perfect games this season have been thrown against us? -O'sFan21

If you're the most interesting woman

Than can I be the most interesting teenage girl? It’s a small nuance, but it’s an awesome title all the same.
