Starting them young
I took my 3 year old neice to her first Oriole game yesterday. Also, first “O” during the National Anthem. She wanted to know if it was always that hot. And, I think she like Matt Weiters. Gotta start-em young. (Wow, do I feel like a Tobacco executive, getting kids hooked on and addictive and horrible product early)

Just saw the ad James F mentioned a few days ago.
He was referring to this. I’ve got one question, why the hell did Dennis Leary approve of this? He’s a freaking Red Sox fan! (1:00 mark)

I watched a couple episodes and I couldn’t really get into it. I’m sure if I gave it a real shot i’d like it, but I try to stay away from liking new tv shows.
His stand up is amazing though. His book was great too, and he’s an awesome guy in person as well. Also, his role in Demolition Man made that one of my favorite movies when I was younger. It was awesome.

I was at the game yesterday....
couple things:
Did anyone notice Adam after he hit the double? He started toward third, and then ran back and bear hugged the second basemen. Does he know him or something? It just looked really funny.
There was the awesome guy up in my section (LF Upper Reserve 386) who was doing the whole Bill Hagy thing. Kept running down and getting everyone to chant the letters. I love it when fans do stuff like that, and not just wait for the scoreboard operators to prompt them.
Anyway, it was a fun game, especially when the Nats fans in my section started getting loud when they got 2 runners on with no outs, but then got really quiet when the Orioles bullpen shut the door. (Wow, never thought I’d write that line)

Pirates are creeping up on the O's
Weren’t the O’s up by seven games two weeks back or so? Now they are the worst team by only a two game margin. The O’s need to make this a complete no-brainer for Jordan so he can’t screw it up with a Rowell or Snyder type of pick if the O’s somehow manage to win some games. That would be salt in the wound that is this 2010 season.
I hadn't realized
that the Pirates had a worse run differential than Baltimore. We’re at 24-51 pythag, but Pittsburgh is at 20-55. It could be “interesting” in September, though I’m guessing run differential wins out.
I will respectuflly disagree with your assessment of Joe Jordan’s abilities if he is instead given the #2 pick in the draft.
On a side note, Matt Purke looks incredibly goofy. I’m glad TCU got eliminated because he was making me feel uncomfortable.
Fire Julio Lugo.
Yea the pirates really lose bad sometimes
I think one weekend they lost a series 50-4 or something completely rediculous like that. That kinda messes with your run differential.
Also with interleague play ending, there is a good chance NL teams quit struggling as much.

Jordan comment was gallows humor
I suspect he can’t screw up a #2 pick. But he sure has shown he can screw up a higher level pick when he goes with position players. The O’s can’t afford complete whiffs like these guys. Yeah, Snyder may appear in an O’s uniform, but he’s not going to be anything more than filler.

The Netherlands, which means “low countries”, is the name of the nation. Holland is actually the name of only two of the twelve provinces, but since they are the two most populous and influential provinces, the country as a whole is often referred to as Holland. Dutch is the name of the language, and is also used to refer to the people.

Pretty standard questions, but interesting that the Orioles are looking for pretty good prospects for Wigginton.
It’s because Andy is smoking crack. He would be a back up on Yankees. We would get a 26-27 AAA for him from the Yanks. Maybe a C or C+ prospect, but I doubt that because Wiggy’s defense is so bad.
Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns.
Well, that is me talking, not Andy
But if they don’t want to give up something of actual value for him, then they can live without them. They are the ones hoping to go to the WS and who care enough about who their backups are that they asked me the question now.
But what I said I think is quite reasonable, and in line with what has been published, namely that MacPhail wants a young shortstop for Wiggy but is unlikely to get one, yet also that there is a dearth of right-handed bats available on the trade market. Scarcity counts; if no one else is selling a player of Wiggy’s caliber, then the price is higher. But what is really going on with that comment is that Yankee fans are overvaluing their prospects. No one I mentioned is a top 10 organizational guy, like with the other guys I wrote about in my article here with other teams. All of them are a bit better than Chase Weems, the player the Yankees sent to Cincy for Jerry Hairston Jr. last year, who wasn’t nearly as good as Wiggy, to fill the same role.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
I'm not disagreeing with you
But what I said I think is quite reasonable, and in line with what has been published, namely that MacPhail wants a young shortstop for Wiggy but is unlikely to get one, yet also that there is a dearth of right-handed bats available on the trade market.
I agree that the O’s are looking for pretty good prospects for Wiggy. I just think that’s crazy. Like I said, I thinking a C+ prospect for Wigis what we’re looking at. I agree with you that all of the guys you targeted look reasonable for Wiggy (Joseph, Adams, etc.).
Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns.
Showalter, who managed the Yankees in the early 1990s, later was asked if he thought the O’s could compete in the AL East. “Sure they can,” he replied. “They may have to do it a little differently than somebody else, but sooner or later you’re going to have to figure out a way to be better than the Yankees and Red Sox anyway, so a lot of people that maybe in the running for that job would say, ‘Bring it on.’”

In 43 1/3 innings this year — an AL high for relievers — Berken…Considering he was a starter last year, and he was stretched out plenty during ST from what I recall, I’m not too worried about this… but I hope Koji stays healthy for a bit so Berken’s arm doesn’t fall off.

Buster Olney also says
The Phillies’ pre-trade deadline priority is a middle-of-the-rotation starter, probably someone higher in caliber than a Guthrie.
Am I over-estimating Guthrie if I think he IS a middle-of-the-rotation starter, especially in the NL? I guess the Phillies could be looking for a #3 starter who is better than Guthrie, but that doesn’t mean Guthrie isn’t middle-of-the-rotation. Or maybe I’m just getting bogged down in semantics.
Isn't it almost impossible to believe that none of the perfect games this season have been thrown against us? -O'sFan21
I guess they are saying he's mid rotation, but the Phils want someone better
but I think that’s pretty dumb. Guts has been pretty damn good and would be quite a bit better in a bigger park where he’d only have to face 8 major league-type batters in a lineup. The Phils would be lucky to get a guy as good as Guts.

Going by WAR
Guthrie is more valuable this season than any of their starters other than Halladay. Guts is at 0.9; Hamels 0.5; Moyer 0.7, Blanton 0.0, Kendrick 0.4. Halladay is a ridiculous 3.7. Of course looking at those numbers I can see why they’d want someone a little better than Guthrie.
Isn't it almost impossible to believe that none of the perfect games this season have been thrown against us? -O'sFan21
Hell...
Millwood is a .6 war player right now. That’s better than 3/5ths of their rotation. Bundle them together.

Who does Philly have in their system that we might want?

I'll answer my own question and say Jonathan Singleton, perhaps.
Jonathan Singleton, 1B, Grade C+: Bat was a lot more polished than expected in the GCL. Strong power potential

I'd take Dom Brown...
but seriously, they resocked their system a bit with the Lee trade. There’s a few guys that would be interesting, but I don’t know their system all that well so it’d take some more looking at. As for Singleton, he’s probably in their top 25 prospects, but not much higher. We might be able to do a bit better for Guts.

Has Singleton as number 11 in Philly’s system and said he could have been ranked higher.

That should say
The article I read on minorleagueball.com. I’m not sure who wrote it or how much credibility it has.

If it's on minorleagueball.com
John Sickels wrote it and he has enormous credibility.

Well Sickles knows more than me
maybe his value has risen. Like I said, I don’t know much about the organization, but from what I have read he was considered a lower top 25 guy. I guess he’s been progressing.

Ok thanks.
I didn’t notice who wrote it when I checked it out and Im not home anymore so I didn’t feel like trying to look it up on my phone.

Dempsey's meeting tomorrow IS a job interview
per Orioles insider blog at the Sun.
Also, Wedge will be in baltimore for a second meeting this week, meeting MacPhail and Angelos.

At this point I think Wedge is our best option.
Unless DJ is seriously interested.

I think DJ IS seriously interested
and I would be shocked if MacPhail doesn’t meet with him. I wouldn’t doubt they may have been other candidates who have interviews we haven’t heard about. MacPhail is notoriously tight-lipped about matters unless he wants a leak to get out.
"If you go up there clueless, you're going to come back [to the dugout] clueless. It's that simple." - Nick Markakis
DJ would be a Phase II interview.
Per MacPhail, Phase I is “Anyone we might like who isn’t currently under contract with another team.”
DJ is under contract with the Nats (though not as a mgr, obvi), and I think MacPhail would have to get permission.

Yea I wasn't sure if he meant he is always
Gonna be interested in Baltimore as in what te club is doing or if he actually meant he was interested in the job.

Aw, Atkins isn't interested in playing for Norfolk...
…but would play in AAA for another organization.
Like one which hasn’t flushed $4.5 million on your ungrateful ass, huh Garrett?
On a serious note, go fuck yourself dude. I hope you make it back to the majors just long enough for one of our pitchers who you fucked this year to nail you in your balls. Preferably DH or Simon.

I understand his decision though
His reputation is so thoroughly destroyed here that he’d likely have very little chance of actually making it up. If he goes somewhere else, he’s much more likely too fool someone who doesnt know how terrible he is (or how ridiculous his face looks) with one ok hot streak at AAA.

Gonzalez, who went on the DL on April 14 after pitching in just three games, started Sunday night’s game for short-season Single-A Aberdeen against Brooklyn. He allowed two runs and two hits, including a homer, in one inning. He faced five batters.

Mna, the Nats must real want another first overall pick.
They’re not losing to the Braves, they’re imploding and the Braves are just taking advantage.
