Britt's Bird Watch: Bergesen to the 'Pen
The hope is Bergesen will use relief to straight out his arm slot, which is believed to be the mechanical problem behind his most recent struggles. He was sent to Triple-A following an 0-2 start to the season, but he said following his last start that he's not dealing with the same confidence issues that plagued him last start.

Doesn't make sense to me
Bergy isn’t the kind of guy with a killer fastball but no secondary offering who profits from this. And I don’t like the way we’re turning our young pitching into bullpen arms – Berken, DH, and now Brad.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one.
I kinda get it with Berken and DH… I like Berken, but don’t know if he really can start, while DH does have a pretty good fastball/slider combo when he can throw strikes. But it only sorta makes sense for them, and it really doesn’t make sense with Bergesen.
I’m becoming convinced that Bergy is yet another guy who never really got over his injuries and is going to suck all year as a result. Anyone else?
And this presumably means Arrieta’s going to be called up soon… probably another guy who’s being rushed a bit. Oy.

It's not abou my rushing IMO
It’s the lack of a competitive club that destroys them. I guarantee if u offered wieters wo any team for a good vet and their top 2 minor leaguers they would jump on it…

And it would alienate the fanbase even further.
And it would be immensely stupid.
Trade Wieters for 2 top minor leaguers? Who are, in other words, prospects and haven’t shown anything in MLB? Get real.

To be fair
Bergy was always pitching over his head. He probably doesn’t have the stuff to be more than a fifth starter.

True.
But he’s been walking a lot of people this year, and that’s really uncharacteristic of him. That suggests he just never got his mechanics back (as they’re saying here), and that makes me think he just didn’t get enough time after the injuries.

That's what happens when your stuff isn't good.
Guys don’t swing at pitches just out of the strike zone when your stuff is good.

I don't think it has much to do with getting over any injuries.
Much more to do with him just not being quite good enough to pitch successfully in the major leagues over any significant period of time.

This is definitely disappointing. Have I missed who is moving up? Would they call up Arrieta? Might as well, it’s after the arb deadline, and he’s now thrown 160 innings in AAA. Of course, with the way things are going, he’ll just rocked and have his confidence destroyed. 15-41 will do that to you I guess.
I’d prefer Bergesen work things out in the rotation, though I am guessing Bergesen will have ample opportunities.
