O's land prep shortstop Machado at No. 3 | orioles.com: News
But when asked who Machado likens himself to, or what Major League player he aspires to be, the 17-year-old made it clear that imitations won't be necessary. "I'm Manny Machado," he said in Monday's conference call announcing his Draft selection. "You can't be like anyone else. You have to be yourself." Not a bad answer at all. -duck

A few words from Jordan - MASNsports.com
"We feel like he's going to play on the dirt, play the left side of the infield at the shortstop position. We think there's a bat, and power - all the ingredients you look for in a shortstop. And a shortstop that will be able, hopefully, to impact the game offensively. We feel like he's going to be able to contribute to the game every night in some way. That's really what it boils down to. All the ingredients are there." -duck

Amd for the Keys
I’m really liking Zagone and Drake from last year at Delmarva. I think they could be two sleepers in our system.

I'm still jaded by last year
Avery SUCKED last year. SUCKED. .306 OBP last year, .647 OPS. Yeah, I know, young for the league, but that’s BAD.
When you watch the Orioles every night, a beer after dinner turns into a six pack WAY too many times. Stacey
you have to keep some sort of perspective though
Football was his main sport all through high school. He’s just now concentrating on baseball, so just surviving full season ball is a feat. He’s a wild card for that reason.

Hrm
Avery still isn’t exactly blowing anybody away. It’s still real, real early, but he isn’t exactly looking like anything more than a role player on a major league team just yet, and I’m not convinced he can be any better than Matt Angle (who isn’t exactly the second coming himself).
Fire Garret Atkins.
He's way better than angle
Angle was 23 in A+ ball and OPS’ed .717, Avery is 20 and has an OPS of .721 in A+ ball. Plus Avery is still uber raw, he’s got far more room to grow where Avery is nothing but a slap hitter.

I get it
but there’s a huge discrepancy in their OBP, and based on his advanced level and advanced on base skills, I think right now Matt Angle has a better chance of being a role player on a major league team than Avery does. And right now I don’t think either one of them can be a starter. I like Avery enough, but the onus is on him to prove to us that he is a quality player and so far, while he’s gotten better, he still isn’t nearly good enough.
Fire Garret Atkins.
Eh
I say it so much I’m sure it gets tiresome, but tools matter.
In half the plate appearances as last year, Avery has matched his 2009 home run total, hit 2/3 as many doubles, and increased his walks by over 50%. Does Angle have a better chance of being a role player? Sure; Avery has a very low floor. But there is no question which one has the chance of being an above-average starter. Avery is a high ceiling, low floor prospect. And that’s not the worst thing.

I think I am a sucker for tools
Although to be fair I dont expect a lot of them to pan out, but if you get enough of them then some will pan out, some will flop and some will tease you, but its worth it for those that do pan out.
Also on Angle, I think he gets a lot of hits by bunting, that probably wont work at the major league level.

I like him
maybe I’m not getting across what I mean very well. He’s miles and miles and miles away and has so much ground to cover yet that it’s difficult for me to get really excited about him in June 2010. That’s all I mean. I like him, but I’m not excited about him.
Fire Garret Atkins.
I'm pleased that he's improving
I dunno if that means that I’m excited about him, but he’s moving in the right direction.
Odds are he never wears an Orioles uniform. But at least he is more likely than Angle to be part of a trade getting us someone who will wear one. Avery is a prospect. Angle isn’t.

If Lou Montanez can be a role player on this team....
…they may as well let me bring my dog to the park and he can pinch run.
If his mouth was big enough to hold a baseball, I’d say we should replace b2b with him.

But seriously
Angle has a solid K:BB ratio, speed, and (from what I’ve heard) good defense, he could definitely be a useful part. He’s not a world-beater or a starter, but he could definitely be useful.
Fire Garret Atkins.
i should mention...
after my initial post, i realized that avery had been drafted a year earlier than i thought.

Zagone just doesn’t have the stuff to start, IMO. He could make it as a LOOGY though.

jeter...
there was an article about jeter and the draft the other day in the nyt and it talked about the players drafted before him. except for the one guy that flamed out before playing pro, they all played or nearly played for the o’s.
phil nevin (who nixed a trade to the o’s), paul shuey (shewbacca!), chad mottola (quad-a jobber actually depicted in o’s uni in article’s photo gallery) and jeffrey hammonds.

I dunno how good an idea this is
I love my dog, and enjoy bringing him places. But I can think of a ton of problems with bringing him to the park. Like: how do I stop him from peeing on everything? Where does he sit? How do I stop him from eating food that falls on the ground? Does he have to be on a leash the whole time? If not, what happens if he runs off through the stands? What happens if a dog runs on to the field? What happens if two dogs get into a fight in the stands?
I can think of few circumstances more likely to end up with something going wrong, really, than mixing five hundred plus dogs with ten thousand people and beer.
To be understood is to be a prostitute. ~ Fernando Pessoa
Snappy remarks
That was a good answer from Manny Machado as to the comparisons to other players. I also would have accepted “I’ll tell you who I’m not like: Billy Rowell”.
I don’t see why we can’t have dogs attend Oriole games. They’d fit right in with the dog that wears the #25 jersey.

It's inevitable
