Orioles Insider: Chris Tillman sensed teammates didn't think he belonged
Don't you hate being the new kid and you don't quite fit in? That was Chris Tillman, but a trip to the Norfolk mall, some new clothes, a new cut fastball, and all of a sudden, you're invited to Jillian's party this weekend and that cute girl is going to be there! And she likes you! And you throw 7.1 innings of amazing stuff! Awesome! -duck

Nats fans are a joke.
They don’t care about the team at all unless Strasburg is pitching. When he pitched against SF it 34,000 and change at the the Mallpark, when Luis Atilano pitched the day before that the crowd was about half of that. They’re bandwagon fans in a way I’ve never seen before.

Meh
What have the Nats ever done to deserve loyal fans?
Have they some long tradition in Washington? No. A stadium the team extorted from taxpayers which they proceeded to fill with the worst team in baseball two years running? Yes. Terrible players like Luis Atilano? Yep.
There shouldn’t be more than 17,000 “real” Nats fans yet. If they improve the team on the field and keep getting exciting players like Strasburg, they will get more. But I’m quite fine with the idea that you can’t plop a team in a city, steal money from its tax coffers, and suck ass on the field and get legions of devoted fans.

You gotta admit that the we would do the same thing. You really think the stadium would be full against the Royals if Strasburg wasn’t pitching?
"However, the true greatness of the Ravens’ line lies in their malevolence, led by right end Haloti Ngata. Simply put, Ngata can’t be blocked by mere mortals. He is not a product of the human species. He is really a creation of a building contractor, made of cinderblocks and some type of flesh-like covering. Throw in Kelly Gregg at nose tackle and behemoth rookie Terrence Cody and you have something truly frightening."
It's not like fans are filling up OPACY while the team sucks.
So I don’t think we get to throw stones.
Can you really blame them? Why spend your money to go watch a few decent guys and some scrubs when you could sit in the AC at home for free and watch on TV? Or just do something else with your life on a given night?
Bandwagon was probably all the people who, earlier in the season, suddenly cared about the Nats because it was cool and trendy and they were acting like they’d been Nats fans all along, and now they don’t care now that the team sucks.
I bet there are a lot of people who have some genuine affection for the Nats, who follow the team passionately even if they don’t shell out money for game tickets. If their team wins they will stop giving as much weight to other non-baseball activities as often – a phenomenon I also think will play out among O’s fans when the team is finally good. To me, that has nothing to do with bandwagon.

This is the first time all season that I have actually enjoyed watching two baseball games in a row. Man, it would just be awsome if this is a sign to the future we have.

Good job with your proofreading, ESPN
Tillman’s no-no was into the 8th, not the 7th. That title caused me to mess up twice when talking about it in comments. Blame ESPN! I don’t get paid to write this stuff.
Oh and now we’re warming up Uehara. He’ll die. He will actually DIE if he pitches in this heat. -KenDixonFanClub
No it wasn't
The no-no was broken up in the 7th – that’s why we were mostly unhappy to see him come out to pitch the 8th.

I just can't get enough of...
that Bobby Bonilla deferred money story. Just read about it again today in the NYT, which is only 2 weeks behind USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.
And we thought Albert Bell was a bad deal. And he was, but least
his contract didn’t last for 25 years.

In my ever-lasting quest to defend Albert Belle
most of the money we owed him was paid for by an insurance company, not us. Also, even though he declined in the time he did play, he still was the best player we had. Belle is very low on my “bad deals the O’s have made” list.
"things like locig and prrofreading are actually valued here" - zknower
I agree w/ this 100%
The only negative impact of Belle’s unfortunate hip condition was that he took up a spot on the 40 man in order for the insurance to cover him. Other than that, his contract was not a significant impediment to the O’s.

93 MPH on the black for Britton - looks good.
bloop single so far

Shouldn't the halo on their logo be over the "A" instead of the "U"?

That last one went a ways
but he looks solid. Nice to know there’s more help on it’s way. This week has been a good one for our pitching future.

Britton hit 95 repeatedly in the Futures game, according to the reports I read
Didn’t throw his change once, but great velocity on his sinker and got some swings and misses with the slider.

DVRed Britton's inning
His sinker is pretty much all he threw. Almost every pitch took a nice little dive at the end. I saw mostly 93/94 as well but I’ll admit that I was distracted by Erin Andrews for the first part of his inning.
