"Joe Hogarty still has a soft spot in his heart for the Boston Red Sox, but not this weekend. Come Out and Play? Self Esteem? No?

I guess I have a certain sentimental attachment because their style of music, even the songs that have come out long after that time, makes me think of that simpler time, i.e. the late-90s, when everything seemed alright.

Green Day and the Foo Fighters are also in this category for me. I couldn’t name for you a single person in any of those bands, and have never bought a CD or song off iTunes from them, but if I hear one of their songs on the radio it’s always, “Hey, this is good stuff.”

He was a second round pick...

….but has had problems staying healthy and has been moved up very slowly – this is his second year in AA even though he led the league in RBI last year. He has good control of the zone and is tough to strike out, but he doesn’t take many walks either. He has good power, but he doesn’t square up the bat enough – only once has he hit over 20% of batted balls as line drives over a full season. He has the tools to make the show, but he hasn’t yet shown the ability to put them together.

I wasn’t kidding about the standards for the kind of conversations I want to be in. I don’t hold a grudge – if you can live with that, then great, let’s talk about baseball.

Well, this makes me want to cry

Jon Heyman

Some baseball people think Orioles president Andy MacPhail may lean toward Eric Wedge for the Orioles’ managerial opening. The players absolutely love the very lovable Juan Samuel (they liked the recently fired Dave Trembley, too), so that’s a factor. Buck Showalter provides an interesting alternative, but it’s believed Showalter favors a lot of change, bordering on overhaul. Wedge, who managed the Indians from 2003-2009, is thought to fit MacPhail’s low-key personality better.

But first and foremost, I want to cry because these fucking losers love Juan fucking Samuel.

I want Buck to get the job

Not because I think he can lead the O’s to the WS, but rather because his past history has shown him capable of turning around moribund teams. His style def. wears thin with the players, but it also gets results. Once he can get the ball rolling in the right direction, shit-can his ass and bring in the ‘players coach’ type who can finish the job.
