So, yeah. No bird droppings today. Sorry 'bout that. Don't blame duck! I told him I'd do it. Of course, I told him I'd do it BEFORE I went to the wine bar after the game.
Feel free to add your own links in the comments, or just discuss Japanese art films or something.

Tatum demoted
And of course, the O’s handled it quite wrongly, not talking to Tater until this morning. The result: Britt, on twitter:
tatum is upset said he doesn’t feel like he did anything wrong
He didn’t do anything wrong. The Orioles did a bunch of things wrong, like waiting until the week before the deadline to make any deals, and deciding that the club needs 13 relievers and five outfielders. And even in this circumstance, Tater should have known days ago that this was likely to happen and was likely to be a very temporary move that is only taking place for roster reasons.
But of course we continue instead to do a horrible job of communicating with our players and of managing our roster. I suppose if Andy manages to get a real coup for Wiggy, Tejada, or Scorey in the next week, it will be justified. Raise your hand if you think that will happen.

Poor Tater.

Anyone think his injury had anything to do with the choice?

No
It was widely reported that this was going to be the choice before the injury. And if it was the injury, that would have made it easier, since you could just DL Tatum for 15 days and save the problem of his being upset both by the team not appreciating the job he’s done and of Tatum being pissed because he’s losing 10 days of a major league salary.

This is the sort of thing that guarantees
No player in his right mind would want to play for the Orioles organization. You know that Guthrie and Wigginton are counting the hours before they’re dealt to a team that knows what it’s doing.
by Fred Sanford on Jul 25, 2010 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions
The Orioles are good about this sometimes
Think about Jim Johnson, and how we had demoted him to the minors and then he turned out to be hurt, so they promoted him back to the majors to put him on the DL to make sure he was still drawing a major league salary.
It isn’t good. But it isn’t calamitous. It is just our usual level of incompetence.

Here is Britt's blog on Tatum
http://brittghiroli.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/07/tatum_on_being_the_guy_who_tak.html
“They just said go down to [Triple-A] Norfolk and we will see when we can get you back,” said Tatum, whose roster spot will be assumed by catcher Matt Wieters.
“I didn’t [do anything to get sent down. I didn’t do anything. [President of baseball operations] Andy [MacPhail] told me it wasn’t for lack of production or anything like that, it’s just the fact that our bullpen’s been taxed and they need to carry 13 pitchers. And I’m the guy that gets to take the fall.
It sucks. But what can you do? I understand why I got to go down, but at the same time you don’t understand. [MacPhail] said he was going to try to get me back up here when he can, but he couldn’t make any promises, if a trade doesn’t go through, how long I’ll be down there for."

Do you feel like kneecapping Scorey or should I?

Are you sure kneecaping isn't a little harsh?

trade him...
isn’t getting anything useful for scorey pretty much a coup? dude’s career was on life support and he was inked for very little.

…we can get anything useful for Scorey.

I don't care if we get something "useful"
You can give me a career AA reliever for him and i’d be all for it. Fortify the minors and get him the hell of my 40 man roster.

I'm not disagreeing
I just don’t see the outcome with trading Scorey (if even possible) as being any better than simply designating him.

Maybe it'll make the FO feel better about it
That way they aren’t paying him for nothing. They get something in return for him. Gotta keep the morale up in Birdland!

Let's do it together
It’ll be an impactful team building exercise. You can hit him and I’ll tell him that we’re sorry but if he wants to blame someone, it should be Andy MacPhail. If he could correctly manage a roster, it wouldn’t be necessary.

agreed.
i think this is being blown way out of proportion. craig tatum is 27 years old and a professional. i think he can handle being sent down to the minors.

The move was fine
but the team probably could have given him more of a heads up. Although why he didn’t see this coming is a bit perplexing.

So, Japanese art films
“Throne of Blood”. It’s Macbeth done in Samurai Japan. A must see.
"Overdrive the sound and make it sound pretty rude." - Jimmy Page
"Ran", Kurosawa's King Lear, is also fantastic.
In other Japanese art films news, I’m making my way through the Hiroshi Teshigahara Criterion set. “Woman in the Dunes” is a real masterpiece. “The Face of Another” is on deck. Looks great.
Ran was easily the most depressing film I have ever watched.
I’ve seen most of Kurosawa’s better-known films, and I love nearly all of them, except for Ran. I don’t think it’s badly made or anything, but I don’t think I’ll ever bring myself to watch it again.
I did enjoy Throne of Blood. Seven Samurai is my favorite of Kurosawa’s films, with Ikiru a close second.

I recently saw
Kurosawa’s Seven Samuri. First time I watched a movie with subtitles and was surprised that I like it and how good it was. I have Ran on my dvd player ready to watch next.

It sucks that Tater got send down after finding out this morning
But I’m not sure if most organizations wouldn’t have gave much pause to treat a rookie catcher with a .653 OPS (not that’s horrible for a back up catcher) the same way.
